If Wallace is eventually moved inside to guard, it could be as a replacement for Onwenu next year. Next year Onwenu will be entering the last year of his deal with $17.5M of cap savings if we waive him. It's just a lot of money for someone who hasn't taken the leap to all pro or even pro bowl level guard like it looked he was poised to do.
Cap space is fluid, but overthecap has us at under $8M for next year. We have $67.8M this year, of which a large portion is likely rolled over. We also have a list of guys besides Onwenu who will be cut between now and next year. My guess is when it's all said and done we enter next offseason as one of, if not the league leader in cap space once again, and will shop at the top of the FA market again. But I do think part of that will be moving on from Onwenu if other guys emerge. Wallace transitioning inside to RG could be part of that.
