Caedan Wallace?

The play of Robinson at RG was cause for hope. Dominant run blocker. He was confused at LG.

Wallace had attitude problems at Penn State. Being late for meetings, etc. He did improve a lot his senior year according to his OL coach.

Many of us are hoping Moses gives him the Big Brother guidance. But at RT. He’s not ready to be a swing tackle unless in a dire emergency.
Robinson wasn't great, he looks like an undersized technician who does everything right but simply isn't big or strong enough. Josh Kline is a good player comparison.

Wallace has too many limitations, poor agility makes him a tackle and nothing else. If he can't do that well he is going to washout pretty quickly. Either of these guys could surprise, they're not devoid of talent... but I'm not relying on them.

Sow was OK in 2023, no-one seems to understand what happened to him in 2024. Athletic guy. Robinson is a bull but stiff, stunts fooled him over and over. It appeared as though Robinson was being played to try to justify the 2024 draft class. My guess is that Sow will rise and Robinson will drop with this new coaching group who will be more objective.
He got hurt at the end of preseason and missed the first month, then the collaboration decided they wanted to see Robinson, Jordan and their guys and Sow was relegated to the bench.

Sow took the starting right tackle job in preseason his rookie year but was moved to guard because of injuries. He started the third most snaps on offense and by seasons end was playing really well. I see a better opportunity for him this year with Vrabel and company.

Can't really judge Wallace based on injury taking away much of his development. It was disappointing he couldn't cement down either of the tackle positions though. It might be better for him as backup RT where not too much expected on him. Flipping positions is hard.

I think we draft a bona fide LT and WR in this year's draft.

I don't understand this propensity from some of the fanbase to convince themselves and others - the people they SAW, with their OWN EYES, completely suck as part of the worst offensive line of the past 20 ****ing years, and they're somehow good, or just need more time.

What is this about?
It's about the miserables that if a drafted player doesn't perform at a starter (or above) level from day one they should be completely discarded. Two seasons minimum should be allowed to see if a draft pick has potential to be an NFL player (OL especially given the vast majority are drafted late).

I agree that a player drafted in the first 3 rounds should be given 2 years to develop, perhaps also 4th round OL's.

However, late round draft choices (5-7) may reasonably have to work to make the team in their first year.

They shouldn't have faith in him because he is pretty much a rookie. They can like what they see as far as potential, but still want someone that is proven.
They did the right things taking OL in the 3rd and 5th rounds last year. Now your right Moses is a proven vet and he can learn alot from him.

Gather as much depth on the OL as possible.. let them battle it out in camp to define thier roles.
This is where I’m at. Sorry, but usually these guys get the 3 yr rule, but circumstances of misses at the HC, offensive coordinator and oline coach jobs has changed the parameters.

I would draft top end talent through the draft. I’m talking LT, LG,, C and RT as if you are drafting starters. Let them fight it out with the other young guys and let Marrone piece it back together. Who knows? Maybe Robinson and Sow figure it out with the new staff and fight off the rookies. Either way, may the best player play and at least they have good competition/depth in the process.

The fact that people are looking at Cole Strange as a potential center is mind blowing to me. He’s been nothing short of a disappointment. Either that or the coaches just didnt know where to play him.

Membou
Campell
Simmons
Ersery
Conerly
Banks
D Jackson
Ratledge
Majors
Wilson

And so many others. Target 2 or 3 and get this fixed.

Strange will be our starting Center.

The team did him no favors last year bouncing him around the line. Marrone did say he liked him coming out., Didnt say he like him as a LT, just that he liked him as a prospect.

I think he has been solid as a LG, Not his fault he was drafted a round early. Athletically he does the things the team has asked the center to do in the past as far as getting to the 2nd level. He has an chance to develop into a plus starter at center. something Bradberry has proven he can not. If Cole cant hanle it by the 3rd preseason game, he is still there at LG for us.

Did he even get in at rt for us? I just remember him in the jets game out of position at lt where he was obviously bad then he got injured. Hard to draw many conclusions on him to this point.

Wallace is a RT who had the misfortune of the abomination of a HC and co. last year who changed everything week to week. The hope would be the team will draft or add a definitive LT, then it’s them and Lowe at LT, with Moses and Wallace at RT. Toss in a few more guys at OT from a mix of either late rounder, low grade FA/trade..and then let it shake it out once entering camp

In mock drafts I can't help but double up on OT taking Campbell at 4 and Trapillo in Round 3.

I'm not assuming Wallace as a roster lock. It's going to be a hell of a roster competition. He might survive if he can play both guard and tackle.

Wallace had a fractured tibula in game 4. A broken leg was probably his greatest misfortune.

I think this is a great concise post. Instead of Campbell, maybe Simmons after a trade down and Trapilo in R3? Wallace and Robinson are not roster locks to Vrabel.

I think they will pick Hunter if available at #4 and later Trapilo or equivalent, and then add the top end LT next year with someone like T Smith as a stop gap this year.

Yes! That's a great formula your mentioning. Strange played "decently " if you want to say that prior to him getting hurt. However out a first round pick your looking for more than decent.

I remember McVay laughing about us taking him at 29. To your point the 3 year rule. This will be his 3rd season. I'm thinking if he underperforms or is hurt again the team will probably cut bait with him. Getting the depth at every position and letting guys battle and carve put starting roles is the best way for the team to go. Coaching will be huge for all the OL this season.

Got a feeling he will be either a swing or our LT depending how the draft and camp works out. Way too early to call him a bust though. Dudes need a few seasons to just get use to the nfl. I know we all want results fast though….Would be nice if Marrone is 1/10th the coach scar was….
