Do you want Will Campbell at 4 assuming Hunter and Carter are off the board?

Campbell is probably the pick at 4 given the need. The tap is the tape though. I don’t think the arm length measurement today changes much.

He had a visit so hopefully they took out the tape measure.

That's my point. Everyone and his brother knew the measurement would be "favorable" on the pro day.
Favorable is definitely one way to describe it.

Is accurate another term we could use?

I dont have all the numbers or time to compare the numbers from Senior/Shrine to Combine to Pro Day, but we know that many players arm lengths were smaller at the combine, than at the Senior Bowl. So if you then show up at the pro day, and the measurements are up from the combine, and back to the Senior Bowl measurements, which one do you trust more?

Wouldn't you take the measurement that happened 2 out of the 3 times? Wouldn't the 1 measurement be the anomaly? Now in Campbell's case, he didn't have the 3 measurements. He only had 2. But if the combine number has been lower for most people, isn't it possible it's low for Campbell?

Not necessarily drawing any conclusion or jumping to any. I have the same opinion I've always had - 3/8" is not enough to discount someone. I still believe Campbell is the best OT in the draft. His NFL future isn't dependent on 3/8" or any specific measurement.

I defer to Scar on it.

I think in a vacuum or theory it matters, but does it in practice? What does the player's past play suggest? What does his tape say? I think the kid will be fine.

add an inch to the whole lot of them then lol

Why? It's NFL scouts who do the measuring at pro days, not anybody from the home team.
These measurements are more reliable than the combine ones, since they were very similar to the Senior Bowl measurements. Thats 2 to 1.
Combine results are suspect.
But bottom line, it doesn't really make much difference either way.
1/4 inch, that's what the fuss is about.
Means nothing.

what about the wingspan? I'm guessing that grew by 3 inches too. lol

That's certainly up for debate. Will Campbell is an athletic freak. He just has shorter arms than preferred. But we know there are above average starting tackles in the league with the same arm measurement and we've heard someone instrumental to the Patriots success say it can be worked around.

I agree that Campbell isn't in the realm of someone like Alt or other top tier OL prospects. But in this draft, there aren't many elite talents. You have to take the best player you can at 4 that can make an impact on your team. You can't say there's no franchise LT so we have to go somewhere else. There's no elite WR or DE or DT or at any other position(assuming Hunter and Carter gone). You're not picking elite at any position unless your plan is to put Campbell at LG but then you haventhe crowd that says OG isn't worth top 4. So WHO do you take then? Eliminating Campbell because he's not elite eliminates basically everyone else by the same metric. It also limits trading down because other teams view things the same. It's unlikely they'll give up a lot of value to trade up when they can get a similar rated talent at 8 or 10 or 12. Trading down would be awesome. I think we all agree there. We just dont know how realistic that is.
IF the Giants pass on QB S Sanders things will get very interesting @ 4.

I don't know why it's comical, it just is. You could have bet A LOT that the measurement would have been in the player's favor.

Nope, it shrunk

To me the whole measuring prospects thing is comical, wherever it's conducted: combine, pro days etc.
1/4 inch +- arm has no bearing on how productive a player will be. Watch the tape. Especially if the kid is from the sec or big ten.
Combine has always been a joke. Thereve been plenty of Mike Mamula's, workout warriors who sucked in the nfl.

I think the kid can play and he's the pick at #4. Eff the talking heads. The tape speaks. Played in the SEC and played well.

I trust Vrabel will make the best move at #4, whatever that is.
There's so many variables, no telling what the Pats do.
I have zero angst about the pick. Don't really even wanna engage in speculation. I dont care.
I know one thing: the Pats will be a stronger team after the draft than before

Many measurements changed from the Senior Bowl to the Combine also. I heard an interview earlier that said it is NFL scouts that measure at the pro day. Not sure if true.

The tape says he is susceptible to being beaten on the inside with speed. I do think he will be alright as a LT.

Length is not the reason he has quick losses
