Do you want Will Campbell at 4 assuming Hunter and Carter are off the board?

The one problem with drafting Campbell and signing Robinson is that you don't want to take reps away from Campbell if he is the plan at LT. Part of me thinks we should forget Robinson/Moore and just run Campbell out there at LT. If it works out then great, if not, we'll just be back in the same situation next year and then you shift Campbell to LG.

Maybe draft Trapilo at RT and a developmental tackle too like Charles Grant, Logan Brown or Hollin Pierce.

Another option would be to draft Membou and sign Robinson. Have Robinson play at LT, Membou at RT and let him get good NFL reps with a possible view to Membou switching sides at some stage in the future. This option ls less fiddly in terms of trying to combine experience and rookie reps.
This is what I’ve been thinking about.
Another scenario is, Hunter is the pick at #4, what do you do then? Do you try to get back into the first and draft someone?

Do you draft Campbell and get Donovan Jackson at all costs after? Let them battle out for both spots?

Simmons won’t solve anything so I don’t see the point in drafting him unless he completely kills it at his pro day.

My preferred scenario was to draft Membou and Hampton and someone like Grant later on as a developmental guy. But without a LT in not so sure.

Right bow maybe we have to sign Jenkins and draft Campbell and see if Wallace can be the RT. I’m trying to convince myself that Campbell will prove everyone wrong but then I look at the tape and I come back completely unimpressed. I really don’t know.

Ozzy Trapilo at 69. Safest OT in the draft.
Charles Grant at 77. Developmental LT with a high ceiling who would have gone much sooner had he played at a Power 4 school.

Trading up? Really? Have you seen the Patriots roster? Gaping holes at multiple places. Simply do have the luxury.

You won’t get an argument from me if they draft those guys as I love both.
I’m actually willing to bet money on trapilo being a patriot and grant is one of my favorite prospects in the entire draft.

maybe they go into the season hoping one of trapilo and Wallace win the RT spot but that would be a huge gamble.

I like the idea of Campbell at 4 and Donovan Jackson at 39. If campbells arms end up a problem, they can flip spots as Jackson has tackle arms and was good there for Ohio state. Gives you a hedge at LT while solidifying the left side of the line for years.

would you sign Cam Robinson too?

I would. You can’t have enough quality linemen, and need a vet just incase. Could always start Campbell at RT in year one then flip him, or move Robinson

I might prefer Dan Moore. Seems like a better locker room guy, younger and still getting better. I also don’t think Russell Wilson did him any favors with the sack numbers, he holds the ball in way too long.

Hopefully not if he's just a backup. In my scenario, he would really just be a temporary option if Campbell flames out at LT. Jaylon Moore from SF would be the other option. Started 5 games at the end of last season and only gave up one sack but has never played more than 270 snaps in a season. Has had 70 plus PFF ratings at both pass and run blocking the last two years though.
He has been in all of my mock ***ency exercises. I heard Mike Giardi mention him the other day and that was the 1st time I heard a media member refer to him as a target

I think the you are right. If Hunter is there at #4, I doubt they pick Wallace or Membou instead of Hunter. Hunter and Higgins in R1 and R2 is not a "trenches first" approach but it sure would solve our WR problem. Then the third is Trapillo and Grant, with Trapillo and Wallace competing for the RT spot.

Even if the Pats pass on Higgins in R2 and sign a vet WR, R2 will probably be D line, not OT.

I think the Pats go D Line in R2, and Trapillo in R3 instead of D Jackson in R2. Just a guess ...........

Yup, he’s gonna be the pick. Guess we gonna have all summer to figure out if he can play LT.

We don't need all summer, or even part of it, to figure that one out.

I had a buddy that was 6'8 and had his hands measured at the combine at 9.8 or something like that. It was under 10 for sure and on his body it looked super funny a big ass dude with dainty hands.
I’m 6’6 with 8 3/4 hands. I’ve hated it for so long and always dread situations where I have to shake someone’s hand lmao

meanwhile one of my best friends is 6’0 with 10 1/4 hands

I’m 5’11 with 10’5/8 inch hands.

I’d say about 30% of the time I shake someone’s hand they bring up my oddly sized hands.

The word "trying" with pick #4 is scary to say the least.
Bingo. Imagine taking a player at 4th overall who has below average measurables? 4th overall is where you get the generic athletic freaks.

People are way too obsessed with the left tackle position. The truth is there isn’t a left tackle in this draft worthy of 4th overall.

That's certainly up for debate. Will Campbell is an athletic freak. He just has shorter arms than preferred. But we know there are above average starting tackles in the league with the same arm measurement and we've heard someone instrumental to the Patriots success say it can be worked around.

I agree that Campbell isn't in the realm of someone like Alt or other top tier OL prospects. But in this draft, there aren't many elite talents. You have to take the best player you can at 4 that can make an impact on your team. You can't say there's no franchise LT so we have to go somewhere else. There's no elite WR or DE or DT or at any other position(assuming Hunter and Carter gone). You're not picking elite at any position unless your plan is to put Campbell at LG but then you haventhe crowd that says OG isn't worth top 4. So WHO do you take then? Eliminating Campbell because he's not elite eliminates basically everyone else by the same metric. It also limits trading down because other teams view things the same. It's unlikely they'll give up a lot of value to trade up when they can get a similar rated talent at 8 or 10 or 12. Trading down would be awesome. I think we all agree there. We just dont know how realistic that is.
