We should and will sign many more players. I just want to note something about 2026.

We are already in the middle of the pack for cap available in 2026. It is somewhat irrelevant that the cap will go upo, it goes up fro everyone.

As we sign more players to 2-4 year contracts, we will reduce available 2026 money available much more than 2025.

Of course, one-year contracts have no effect on 2026.

Cap space without consideration of the size and make up of the roster is half assed.

If we sign a good starter to a 3 year contract I am happy we have less cap space in 26 and 27 than to have more but lacking a good starter at the position.

Not only would the value of that 10 million wear off incrementally in year 2 and 3, but the first scenario offers the ability to manipulate the cap hit and have certainty in place as well. Obviously there are more variables than that though.

Definitely. Somewhere in the middle ground usually is the ideal—assumes have some franchise pieces locked in and aren’t a barren roster, but also aren’t bent over by bad deals that put you against the cap.

The Pats still have a crapload of cap space in 2025 which much (after they are done spending for the year) will be able to be pushed into 2026 anyway. The Pats won’t have any remote cap issues for a couple of years.

they will be watching the cut downs... can't really see them trading for a quality asset at this point

You can front load or kick cap debt down the road, there are many ways to skin a cat.

But they’ll want to have money available when it comes time for Maye to get paid and they’ll want to have the cornerstones of the team around him already.

Having extra cap room might be a good thing as sooner or later Maye will get paid...
