What’s our plan at Wide Receiver?

Carter and Ward will go in the Top 3. Is Hunter or Sanders going to be picked in the top three as well? If the Giants chose Sanders, we get Hunter. Not too complicated. QBs always rise a week or two before the draft, so I think the possibility of Sanders going #3 is good.
Or we trade down. A corner at 4 doesn’t make sense.

Many posters on this forum are living on fantasy island or completely blind when it comes to Pop. He wouldn’t be more than a 3 at best on any other nfl team. Most teams he wouldn’t even be in the top 4.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Pop. I like Boutee. I think Polk and Baker deserve another year…but I also know that they need two starting wide receivers because the guys they have are solid bit pieces.

That is correct and especially true after we just gave a huge contract to Carlton.

T Hunter is the best WR in college football, winning the Fred Biletnikoff award, and taking a WR at #4 does make sense.
Everyone has Hunter as a corner in the nfl, and possibly also playing on offense. He isnt going anywhere near 4 if he is considered only a wr

You might be right. Hunter won the Fred Biletnikoff award because the majority thinks differently from you. You are clearly in the minority with that view, but minorities can be correct from time to time. We will see.

It's a good move by Hunter to essentially defer to the team he is drafted by to determine his primary position.

He would bring so much value to the NEP. Aside from WR, on D he could be used as as a 3rd CB covering the slot, help Davis or Gonzo if they are out on the outside. He could also play FS.

As the team looks to add talent incrementally, he can "pitch in" until they add said players as basically plays four different positions.

Book smarts are different than football IQ but the fact he was an Academic All-American is in many ways pretty damn impressive.

For the No. 1 WR issue, I agree with others that Vrabel might want to try his hand at the draft, since it's one of the spendier propositions out there in FA, and every year there are very few blue-chip FAs out there. Why take a chance at dooming yourself in personnel acquisition at WR when there is no real downside to taking your free shot while you still have a "that's okay" year to work with, and a tradition of draft failure at WR? You can just play with house money for a while, especially while putting the aforementioned pieces in play along the O-line.

If we can name our O-line, less injury changes, by looking at our opening day roster, then it's time to form the torch-bearing mob (and Vrabes et al. know this.)

So he has time for the opportunity to come and to pounce.

Here is your guy. Same height(6'0) as Diggs (4.46)but with a faster 40 time (4.29). In fact I think he had the fastest 40 time in the combine. Good hands, can play in the middle of the field or down the sidelines.

I like it!
In the scenario that we trade down from 4 to ~8-15, pick up an extra high 2nd (and 3rd) - Select the best LT there (Banks, Membou)
Then, use our 2nd to move back up to low 1st round and get Golden - I'd be thrilled.

He's the guy we don't have in our WR room right now. We could seriously cut Polk if we end up with...

Golden, Pop, Bourne, Hollins, Boutte (Baker to develop - if he finds that potential, he could take reps from Boutte/Bourne)

Wish I was sold but reality may say otherwise. At this point in time, 1 (Pop) would be worth a 5th rounder, the other 2 a 6th rounder at best (Boutee didn’t really show up till towards the end of season - best game/last game = scrub game), and none of them would probably be WR#3 on 75 - 80% of receiver rooms in the league. If it wasn't for the O-Line, I’d draft 9 WR’s and let them battle it out while holding extremely tight onto a pair of Rosemary Beads!

Winning the biletnikoff award doesn’t mean you will be drafted in the top 4.
Event based upon production in college, not evaluation as a pro.

The minority are people who think he will play WR instead of corner in the NFL

My conclusion from your post is that you seem to believe that having Josh, an improved OL, an additional WR or two and a year of experience for Maye won't help our WR's perform better.

No - at least 2 potential OL starters and a WR total remodel via any means possible is in order. Didn’t say it would be easy but until its done low score losses will still be losses…

Playing Hunter at WR and occasionally at FS might be what the Pats are thinking. I had not thought of that. Thanks for mentioning it. Why do I think that?

1. The Pats signed Carlton but passed on the available FSs.
2. It has been suggested that Mapu could play FS, but he has not been great at that.
3. Hunter is great with the ball in front of him, very good at zone coverage which is similar to FS.
4. For running downs Mapu might be better at FS because he is better at tackling.
5. On passing downs Hunter might be a better choice at FS because of his instincts, quickness, speed, and veratility (like you noted).
6. Only playing FS on passing downs would limit Hunter's snaps on defense when he is playing WR on offense.
7. Hunter can play single high FS with Carlton and Gonzo as the outside corners working on islands, or drop into 2-high, or 3-high. Hunter can also drop down to cover the slot or a TE on Zero blitzes.

If the Pats signed a FS in FA, I would doubt they are considering Hunter at safety, but since they didn't I doubt Mapu is our FS on passing downs. Hunter would be a logical choice at FS if the Pats draft him.

The Pats did try to sign Godwin as a WR, so maybe they are not thinking about drafting Hunter and will pick a LT candidate and I am completely wrong - LOL.

This is my fear. I hate the "telegraphing" word because I LOATHE the idea that our draft is seen as a trickle down effect of free agency. Moreso than any position this team needs HIGH END TALENT. Even the best teams have positional weaknesses. What's holding us back from being a competitive team is the lack of high end talent in general, and the best path to add that is the draft. You make it harder on yourself if you pigeonhole yourself into only looking at certain positions with the best picks.

I'm confused on how to think abut Kupper Kupp. Up util now, he' always seen like that that great solid WR from the West coach, who we heard great things from, but never figured out how he do it. Too slow, not quick, yet he always seemed to get behind the 2ndry.
, ideal WRs is available and I HAVE to ask WHY? I mean, I don't think that teams are now just "giving away" quality WR's for "thank you down the roads" So why is THIS one doing it for such a lockerroom stalwart. I mean I thought we were a bit cold with our dealing JJones, this guy was a local here after the Super Bowl 2018

Now there isn't much lickihood he wants to be sent here. Or that he winds up here, but even if he does, their has to be something wrong with him Right...... Fot NOTINGH

He slipped down rams depth chart and gets injured frequently
Mcvay and snead do not make irrational decisions

On the flip side there were no WR in FA that addressed their biggest need at the position, a true X. Hollins is the only one on the team with the athletic/physical profile to actually play the position at the moment.

His contract was set up to make a ridiculous amount of money and LA had to cut him because of that. At this stage he's no longer a great receiver. He's a good route runner/technician/student of the game who can make an impact underneath, but not someone who draws extra defensive attention anymore. He's a complimentary player, but guys like that who know their new role and do things the right way and can make smart plays are invaluable, hence a lot of interest. He's a solid piece who can help any team still, you just have to be realistic about the level of contributions he can bring. He's now at a tier where he probably makes more sense to prioritize for a more competitive team where one more improvement could push you over the top. We should be interested, but I don't think we should really be paying top dollar for him.

This is kinda FA now, most teams have figured out how to deal with the CAP, so real difference makers aren't going to become available. FA is really about filling holes and filling out depth....if you want to really improve you have to draft well.
