What’s with the pure vitriol for Bourne? You and a few other posters have it and it’s confusing to me. Not saying he’s great, but do people really think he’s a total bum?

He’s been here 4 years. His 2021 and 2023 (pre-injury) seasons were played at level and statistical pace which was that of a “good WR”. A #3 type. His 2022 and 2024 seasons were both played at a terrible pace that justifies saying he’s a bum. But 2022 was the weird Patricia year where he was in the dog house and last year was a return from injury year which is notoriously tough on WR. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle because he’ll be 30 so I’m guessing he’s declining vs improving but my guess is he’ll probably be closer to 2021/2023 level.

I don’t think it’s a disaster if he’s a #3/4 WR. Ideally I’d like to see him cut because he’s a Z and we have bodies there so alignment wise it make sense to swap him for an X since the developmental guys need playing time in his role. But I don’t think he’s a bum.
He had a good first year, and fell off a cliff the last three. That's the vitriol. He's getting no younger, so him improving is unlikely. We also have enough 6' 200lb guys that run a 4.5.

At least Mack Hollins is 6'4". And it's the same production we've gotten from Bourne the last three years, and he's cheaper. So no, I'm not going to cry if he goes.

He may not be a bum per se, but he's trending in that direction.

I don’t get feeling offended by this move. You need more bodies even if they aren’t all blue chip guys.

If this is the only receiver we bring in, then sure that would really bother me.
Right? Hard working culture guy.

Is it really fair to say he fell off a cliff in 2023? He looked fine to me that year and statistically was on the same pace as 2021. He just got hurt. That's not falling off the cliff, he just got hurt. And guys routinely struggle in year 1 back from leg injuries at the WR position so I expect him to be better this year than he was last year as that's a pretty standard timeline for WRs recovering from injury. The only "fall off a cliff" I see is the Patricia year which I just think was weird all around and I don't see much predictive power in it.

I'd expect Bourne to be better than Hollins, but Hollins' roster spot is safer because of scarcity of X receiver ability relative to Z receivers and his STs ability making him a viable roster candidate even further down the depth chart. The way I see it, we'll have 4 WRs that are gameday active and part of the gameplan. Boutte/Douglas will be two of them. Right now it'd be Bounre/Hollins as the other 2, but I expect via free agency or the draft they'll add someone who displaces Bourne.

Hollins STs ability makes it feasible that even if there's a second addition to the top 4 (whether a FA signing, draft pick, or Polk/Douglas pullin their head out of their ass), it's feasible to keep on the roster and even make him a 5th gameday active at WR.

Kendrick Bourne will be 30 during camp. Players typically don't get hurt less frequently when they turn 30.

I was super surprised and pleased with Bourne's first year, and hoped he'd turn into something - but three full seasons after that, he's just not.

When you wish upon as star.

We don't have a WR on our Roster who can match his numbers... he would look like a #1 here.
Oh definitely agree brother.. but we have enough disappointment on our wr roster already.. I'm thinking something is brewing to get a #1 here.. something tells me the NEP won't be a joke come September.

Just head over to bills board. They are fuming as to why he was not extended.

The more I look at it, his measurables and his improved play last year and uncanny similarities between Josh and Maye , I feel this signing could benefit us immensely for this year . Based on the offensive signings, it looks like they want to get some veterans to instill some culture and ride along with a lot of young folks. Which means we should be drafting couple of OTs, TE and RB from draft. Moses, Hollins, Hooper, Andrews ( possibly) are ones that will provide veteran leadership.

Doesn't look like team is too sold on Bourne. Most likely he is trade bait with 49ers for aiyuk on draft Day or getting cut at later point.

One of Polk/ Baker will be cut/ traded or moved to PS.

This will be the wide receivers corp

Hunter / Aiyuk ; Boutte; Douglas; Hollins; Baker/ Polk

If we land hunter we will not trade for aiyuk. If Hunter is not available I see a trade down to 6 to draft Campbell or membou and use that extra second rounder for aiyuk and trade up to mid 20s with Vikings to also draft conerly Jr if available.

Didn't really love this move. Maybe it is just PTSD from year's past where we would sign a guy like this and draft a receiver in the mid to late rounds and call it a day at the position but we have enough of these bottom of the depth chart receivers. We need to find a way to fix the top of the depth chart and Mack Hollins certainly isn't going to help there.

Don't just look at WR position overall. Look at at more specifically. There are X receivers, Z receivers and slots. Some guys overlap, but we don't have anyone who's a true X. Boutte played it last year but he should be a Z. Baker has some X receiver traits but also might be better as a Z. Polk/Bourne are Z/slot types. Pop is a pure slot.

Hollins is a true X receiver, even if only a depth option. Despite overall abundance of depth at the WR position in general, we had absolutely none for that specific positional alignment. Now we have one depth guy.

Vet insurance. There's always 1 WR that gets hurt in preseason. He may be cut by week 1 if Bourne balls out...
If Polk got his head re-wired and shows up, if Boutte picks up where he left off, and mostly, IF>>>
We draft a bigtime X WR in 1st or 2nd.
Which is where our FA moves have pointed so far. It's hinting that it'll be LT & WR in the top of the draft.

You gotta be kidding me if Mack Hollins is our #1 the Room Sucks. Drake Maye is not Tom Brady who can make chicken salad out of chicken **** .
Didn't put him there, did I?

Don't forget that he has STs value too so even if he does get pushed out of WR playing time, he still has an avenue to make the team and contribute.

How does this move generate 6 pages of content?

He's colorful. He'll be fun to watch if he sticks.
