Interior OL

So, the same 2024 players at IOL (Sow, Strange and Onwenu) will by MAGIC become a competent set of starters?

And Wallace will be the Gameday backup LT and RT? I'm down with expecting Wallace to be a backup RT, but he has shown nothing to believe that he can be our backup LT.
=======
To put in another way, let us say that our 2nd tier LT is injured. You are counting on Wallace to be our LT, backed up by a mid-round draft choice.
Well, Sow-Strange-Onwenu was not our IOL last season, except maybe the last game if Sow played (can't recall). Regardless, I feel good about Onwenu at RG, good about Strange at C, and hopeful about Sow at LG. Also comfortable with backups of Robinson, J Andrews, & Brown. With all our needs I don't think IOL is an urgent upgrade project like the rest of the team. But none of them are all-pro's either so if a much better player is available then get him.

What I was saying about OT is that I can't trust that Wallace is ready to be the starter at either spot yet, but he has promise so I see him as a 6th OLman for heavy sets, which he did last year - and be our primary RT backup and be ready as an emergency LT. Also draft a mid rounder as our 4th tackle and sign an older FA tackle as well. Draft Membou as our beast RT, and sign a couple of FA's to hold the fort at LT. Membou beside Onwenu would be provide serious road grading.

So then we need a complete new starting 5? Entire new OL none of them are any good?
I thought Strange was at least passable in the short time he was in there.

Other than that, I would not cry if you replaced the whole unit. They were that bad.

Sow was so bad at guard, he had more snaps at Fullback last year.

Also, I love Membou as a prospect, and I think he can play left tackle no problem. I hate burning pick 4 on him, but if you can get him in a trade down, then yes, I'd be on board.

Let's pretend for a second they go the free agency route alone to fix the offensive line:

LT – Jedrick Wills, Demontrey Jacobs,
LG – Cole Strange, Sidy Sow,
OC – David Andrews, Jake Andrews,
RG – Michael Onwenu, Layden Robinson,
RT – Oli Udoh, Mekhi Becton, Caedan Wallace,

That's ^ a really good and talented line with some depth. Strange could slide over to center or Jake could take the job if David decides to hang them up.

Sidy Sow is a guy who could make a leap this year with much better coaching and scheme, he is uber talented, strong and could possibly start at guard or tackle.

This is a reasonably priced fix that doesn't even account for the draft and adding that way. If they go this route they can use the draft to bolster the defensive line.

The line has some good pieces, the coaching and scheme has sucked, there have been some unfortunate injuries... but they still have some good interior players to work with assuming health.
I love the idea of bringing in Wills, but I think he needs to be moved back to RT. Wills, Jacobs and Caedan Wallace can all compete along with any potential rookie. Udoh would also be a good reclamation project, but I just don't know what his best position is and I don't think Becton is leaving Philly. Honestly this is not that much different than last year. The draft will bring in a few more competitors. I also think that Lowe makes the 53

If we headed into week one with Campbell at LT, Strange at LG, Andrews at C, Owenu at RG and Robinson at RT.. with real coaching, real scheme and blocking assignments I think we would be thankful. It would mean it's a step up from the 32nd ranked OL. Unless something changes between FA and the draft. That's probably what the line up will be IMO.
One of the things that makes me super optimistic is that Josh will be able to provide the OTs help if needed. Last year that was a very sore spot. I was not sure that AVP could adjust during the game. We know Josh can.

It has been said so often, that I have to believe it as fact..... but I don't see Onwenu as a better RG than RT. Maybe it's the dreaded "eye test," but I see our line solidifying more in previous years when he's at tackle.

I am welcome to being convinced, if anyone can show me why.... stats or otherwise. It's just an opinion I've never understood. Why is Onwenu better at guard?

The reason that you might think that the OL looked better with Onwenu at Rt is that the other RT's were so awful. I agree that the reality is that Onwenu is a much better OG.

This. Having the coaching and offensive structure makes a world of difference. AVP mentioned he couldn't even run everything in the playbook due to the OL.. essentially. Josh one thing we know is he's going to have a well oiled offensive scheme all around. Everyone stands to benefit from Josh.

Michelangelo used marble and would have struggled creating masterpieces with manure.

So while I agree that Josh brings hope, they better provide him with much better building blocks.

Great anology there! Well last season I think the number was what 30 something different line ups? Or something like it. During to injuries, poor play, ect. The OL is the only unit on a team we're guys don't rotate and sub in and out like other positions. Once you're a starter you stay in. We couldn't even get plays off without penalties AVP even admitted he couldn't call plays on his sheet due to the ineptitude.

This season we already have an upgrade to the roster by getting real coaching. Everyone stands to benefit from better coaching. However to your point having better players will vastly help!

I thought that many mediots think that Campbell's next chance for success in the NFL is at LG.

But, yes, you are correct.

I am indeed trying to convince myself that Campbell is good enough to be our LT for the next 5 years.

Campbell has been outstanding as a Left Tackle at LSU, the only reason he’s being projected as a guard is arm length. And the reason people believe he will be an outstanding guard is because he’s an outstanding offensive lineman, period. It’s not some massive projection to playing a different position, both positions require the same abilities. It’s not like they want him to be a wide receiver.

The other factor that is being completely overblown in these discussions is Membou as a right tackle, when the truth is that the vast majority of college left tackles start out either on the bench or as right tackles when they are 19-20 years old, just as Josh Simmons did for Ohio State, and most agree he would be the top Left Tackle prospect if he hadn’t gotten injured seven though, heaven forbid, he once played right tackle as an underclassman.

If Campbell were on this team right now he's probably the best OL we'd have. That's the sad state of affairs that the roster has eroded too.

Boo hoo hoo. Life is soooo tough.

Don’t take it personally 02’, I’m just completely fed up with everyone feeling sorry for themselves. This isn’t the ****ing Jets.

Likely baring injury. Layden Robinson is strictly a RG. And a promising one at that. Onwenu as trade bait?

No one here is feeling sorry for anything..I'm simply stating the real.. I'm sick of posters still acting like this is the superbowl patriots.. NO! They are ****ing franchise with past glory and the ****ing NFL bottom roster. You need an OT.. who you have ****ing sucks and or can't stay on the field.. Campbell falls to you.. you take him. Need to prioritize the needs over wants..

The hell they aren’t. All I see is “woes me why can’t we have anything good” posts from at least half of this forun. My older brother is a Dolphins fan, one of my best friend’s is a Jets fan, between them they haven’t seen a Lombardi in 110 years, that is something I can forgive them crying about, winning 6 since 2000 isn’t.
