Offseason player acquisition thread

Agree. The rubber meets the road Monday, the start of legal tampering, so all of the feints from teams about allowing players to seek trades will be ending, and teams will have to start releasing them to free up cap space. And if the Patriots are truly interested in a guy like Cooper Kupp they will have to get a trade done with L.A., as his options open up completely once he hits free agency.

Yep, Monday is nut cutting time. They can’t wait until the draft to swing a deal without first addressing roster holes via Free Agency, trades of any substance need to be wrapped up ASAP otherwise they may lose out on free agents who won’t wait around while the Pats **** around.

With a tiny bit of hyperbole… next Monday and Tuesday set the tone for the entire offseason.

I will be watching with cautious optimism but am also ready to be completely disappointed and underwhelmed. AKA - the life of a fan

They have shown well at least claimed they are trying to get Maye a number 1 WR, so I am fully expecting 1 of Metcalf, Brown, Kupp, Aiyuk, Pickens to a be a Patriot between now and Monday.

Of all the needs this team needs, WR moves the needle the least....it is the piece to put you over the top, not the piece that moves the floor.

I would think clubs want to do trades before Monday so they can set free agency strategy

I think it’s a given they are approving DL and OL, I think WRs the Divas are the hardest to secure.

So that is why I’m focused on getting that right.

Funny thing is I'm usually on your side of this debate. But right now what does it really matter which position moves the needle more or less, WR is a need regardless. We have way to many holes to fix so if you can find someone to fill one then do it.

Another way to put it is the free agent and draft class sucks for LT so even if it's our biggest need we might not have much choice but to make bigger moves elsewhere first.

We need talent everywhere and we need top end talent anywhere we can get it.

If there was someone I actually liked maybe I would feel different, but none of the receivers being talked about excite me, the only one that actually is a #1 is DK, but I don't love his fairly limited route tree and I don't think he is a fit for what the team wants to do.

With the Raiders trading for Geno there is a line of thinking that they know Sanders wasn't going to last so the jumped on another option.

It could be that they just don't like Sanders. It could be they want both with Geno as the starter until Sanders is ready. Or it could be unrelated.

Since I'm all for Carter or Hunter I choose to believe the Raiders have an idea the QBs won't last. One of these 2 are ours.
Or the Raiders believe that none of the QB's, not named Ward, are anywhere as good as Geno.

These classes arent great for WR either, and generally WRs are easier (for most teams) to find than 6'6 300+ athletes with 34+" arms.

Watch the Jags here.
I need to see Godwin run before I even pick up the phone to even text him or his agent.
Godwin is the WR I want the least out of Metcalf, Kupp,Brown, Aiyuk,Pickens.
Kupp has injury history too and Pickens just seems like a headache. Godwin is good. Brown is unrealistic and Aiyuk does not want to be here. Metcalf doesn’t seem like he wants to be either.

Usually, posters wait until the first day of free agency to be so desperate.
This year I think everyone is starting from a baseline of panic and waiting for something to calm us down.

Right so if an opportunity to fill either presents itself you should pounce without hesitation.

Thanks I didn't realize that. Come to think about it we have to many all pros I think I can wait until FA begins meh.. it won't make a difference.

Love rumors like these, they aren’t going to sign anyone unless the are the highest bidder. Glad they are at least rumored to be the highest bidder.

No really good receiver is going to be available to the pats without some combination of injury history, expensive contract, or high draft pick cost in a trade. Personally I’m fine with Godwin’s injury history (if the team is), and his potential high salary because he doesn’t also cost a pick to acquire.
