Looks like Evan Engram is getting cut by the Jags.

Any thoughts? If paired with Henry he could give Maye a nice pair of security blankets. When healthy Engram has been a consistent producer despite all the turmoil in Jax the past few years.

I don't know much about his blocking skills, but there are some stories out there that it has improved (whatever that means).

After missing a big chunk of time last season he might need a "prove it" deal, although I doubt that will happen. Productive TEs are always in demand, and I wouldn't be surprised to see KC make a run at him to mitigate the slow decline of Kelce.

Pats have $ to burn, and this might be a good spot to spend it. Am I just playing Madden here?

He’s the same age as Hooper and Henry. I guess if Hooper chooses to go elsewhere, but I’m more focused on a developmental TE if he returns.

If they spend on a TE, I'd rather go bigger for Juwan Johnson. In addition to being a good redzone target, he's great at explosive plays from the TE/big slot position. Ingram for his career is under 10 yards per catch (only 0.1, but still...). I think we need to generate more explosive plays and I don't see him really helping with that.

Im not much of a draftnik, don't have the time but are there any good TEs in this draft? Some of the best have been drafted beyond the first round.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with Hooper. If Engram is healthy, you’re getting a better receiver. Idk. I’d rather re-sign Hooper and draft a guy. Engram would probably be a better short term band aid though.

No. It’s the only part of the team that’s not a need.

Pats need offensive weapons Engram is an offensive weapon. No reason the Pats can’t run 12 personnel with Henry and Engram.

Sign the Breast.

The general opinion is that this draft is heavy on talent at DL, RB, and TE. I imagine there will be players at every position (as usual), who will greatly exceed their draft position. As far as TE is concerned, I think that Mitchell Evans TE Notre Dame could be one of those players. He probably won't make a big impact as a Rookie, but if put on the right team, he could start to show something special by years 2 to 3.

This team won’t be pressed against the cap

Just bring in good players. Whoever will sign. We need talent. Let’s take what we can get for a not too awful price

Both of the top 2 TEs are already better than he is.

In our offense he would end up as Jonnu Smith 2.0.

Disagree. Henry is hurt on a regular basis, and Maye loves throwing to the TE. Whether it’s the draft or free agency they need another quality TE.

Henry has only missed 4 games in 4 years with us.

I'm surprised how quickly this was dismissed, along with the general opinion that Hooper is just fine.

Hooper isn't bad but assuming Engram is healthy he seems to be an obvious upgrade. Even missing 8 games he had more catches than Hooper last season. Hooper hasn't had more than 46 catches since 2019, while Engram had 114 just 2 seasons ago. Hooper's YPC is better the past few seasons, and that obviously matters, but I think in this offense just getting open enough for 100+ catches matters more as we don't know if line play is going to improve dramatically.

If this offense was loaded with reliable open WRs I might feel differently about this, as a 100 catch TE wouldn't really be needed. Like I said Hooper isn't bad, but we have a whole offense of players who "aren't bad." We need to start looking to upgrade. Unfortunately, that does not look like it's going to change unless the Pats make a splash.

Both are 30 years old. Hooper is a FA and while he won't cost as much as Engram, he's going to be more expensive to keep this year. I believe Hooper is a better blocker, which is obviously a big deal in this offense. That said, I don't think it's a slam dunk you don't at least kick the tires on Engram. If healthy he could be a great addition for Maye.
