It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I'd feel a hell of a lot better taking him at 7 with an additional 2nd and another pick in my pocket. If the Pats trade down to, let’s say 7 with the Jets, and Will Campbell is still there - worth taking him there as a left guard? You’d have a really really solid IOL which is probably most important for Maye. Would need to pay a LT in free agency.
It's such a gamble with FA.. I was told Alaric Jackson re-upped with LA and the Ravens are intent on extending Stanley.. so that leaves us with minimal options at LT.. there's vederian Lowe clone in Dan Moore.. I'd rather take Campbell and have him at LT, Strange at LG, Andrews At C, ownenu RG and Robinson at RT. Robinson can't play, and Andrews looked washed before he got hurt - and Onwenu's regression after he got the big contract was striking, and actually scary. It's such a gamble with FA.. So then we need a complete new starting 5? Entire new OL none of them are any good?Robinson can't play, and Andrews looked washed before he got hurt - and Onwenu's regression after he got the big contract was striking, and actually scary.
Short answer, no, that's not nearly good enough.
Great points. I go back to the comments from the players after the season was over. Gonzo saying guys relaxed and didn't alway put fourth full effort. Dugger saying the communication was bad all season without Bentley and that he should have been a better leader. Jon Jones saying they never felt like they had a coaching advantage all season. That sums up the 2024 season. We already have upgraded the roster by the coaching. Guys will be held accountable, be coached hard, and put in positions to succeed. For the OL we simply need 5 of the best OL that will play sound football and be competent. In this discussion, one should not understate the absolute incompetence and failure of Scott Peters. Quick, name a single player who improved notably last year under him. Lowe is the closest I can think of and he was overmatched most weeks. I suspect Peters was the main guy promoting the idea that Okorafor and Wallace and Robinson could switch from the right side to the left, and I hold him highly culpable for ****ing up the 2024 offseason and not finding a way to get anything out of Sow last year.
I expect Onwenu to come to camp in shape this time and be a fixture at RG, with Robinson his backup. I think Big Mike can be a good RG if he stays in shape.
I’m hoping Strange sees his golden opportunity at Center and capitalizes on it. If his athleticism is back I think he can be good there. I respect Andrews but I think he’s toast at this point. I don’t expect Strwnge to be here in 2026.
So the question for me for the IOL is LG. I think Sow will say as a backup and they will sign a veteran, then draft another guy that could play LG or Center, unless they think Jake Andrews can be that guy.
LT is the truer need. If we can somehow trade for a Stud LT then I'd be more willing to test the waters on Strange LG, David Andrews C, and Onwenwu RG. I'm not quite ready to give up on either of them but we can't exactly rely on all of them either.
Problem is I don't know who that stud LT will be so I think we might have to make a tough decision in one of those spots because we are more likely to find interior OL talent than LT. Hopefully bringing in a starter on the OL doesn't piss the guy off who might lose his spot because we also need the depth. I think we'd all feel more comfortable with 4 solid choices fighting it out for the 3 spots but losing PT can be a tough pill to swallow.
Onwenu will return to form, and between David Andrews, Strange and Jake Andrews they should be fine at center. Supposedly Doug Marrone likes Wallace as the right tackle from what I have heard in podcasts and that seems fine with me since the kid really should’ve just been a right tackle all along. They should have competition there but I don’t really see any issues with Wallace likely being the guy and a decent vet backup. In this discussion, one should not understate the absolute incompetence and failure of Scott Peters. For some reason I'm not a overly concerned with RT as LT..I don’t think they can trade for a LT. I do think they can make a deal with Cleveland for Jack Conklin, which would solve RT.
Ross we just need 5 COMPETENT guys on the OL. We have the coaching these guys will need now it's up to them to go out protect and move the line of scrimmage forward instead of backwards like last season.Onwenu will return to form, and between David Andrews, Strange and Jake Andrews they should be fine at center. So it just comes down to LG and LT really.
Cole Strange basically got a year off he needs to bring it this year... want to see more from Jake Andrews too. What are we doing here with this group?
Onwenu
David Andrews
Cole Strange
Layden Robinson
Sidy Sow
Cam Wallace
Should the plan first off be to kick Onwenu back out to right tackle? Are we still rolling with Andrews at center, or is it time to finally move on there?
I get we’re harping at the need at tackle. But I also have a hard time trusting that total group above. A lot of injury issues/ lack of development. Should we be buyers on the inside of the line as well?
Someone told me In a post none of the OL are any good twin. Jake Andrews is missing in action..Cole Strange basically got a year off he needs to bring it this year... want to see more from Jake Andrews too.
Stanley at LT and Mekari at RT? If so, I'm down with that!
I honestly don't think Stanley is leaving Baltimore he's in a fantastic situation there. So it's seemingly going to come down to us either signing another 2nd tier OT or draft Campbell...I would honestly grab both plus a pick swap for Conklin at rt and not take any chances with LG. Granted, none of these guys are young but i can see all of them giving us 3 years.
We have so much cap room and im not sure how we’ll spend it all with our targets possibly getting tagged or extended so might as well patch up the line best we can with whoever is gonna be available. Plus im wondering what the best case scenario even is with d andrews. If we’re likely to have to move on from him in a year either way, might as well make the extra sign and move on now if we can ( saves us close to 3m too i believe ).
Who is "CAM WALLACE"?What are we doing here with this group?
Onwenu
David Andrews
Cole Strange
Layden Robinson
Sidy Sow
Cam Wallace
