Lazar on WR Draft

I just don't like him. He rubbed me the wrong way last year with statements that sounded like entitlement. I think his frame won't be durable either.
If you played for last years team of massive dysfunction you’d say some questionable things as well. If you think we were frustrated as fans, imagine those guys.

Jerry Rice retired 21 years ago.

Restrepo hasn't run the 40 at the combine yet, those numbers are hand-timed. If he goes faster than 4.65 I'd be really surprised. He's not just straight-line slow, he's slow off the line. The reason he had success was because being the the slot allowed him to go against a team's 3rd best corner, and in the ACC, these are barely division 1 guys.

He uses leverage well. That would be awesome if he were a 6'4" tight end, but he's not. He's just a slow 5'10" slot receiver. A lot less Julian Edelman and a lot more TJ Moe.

It makes no difference that Rice retired 21 years ago. Facts are just facts. Yes, they are hand times. That is why there is a large difference. An average in the 4.5ish range is where he will end up at the combine. So I guess Emeka Egbuka, JSN, and Chris Olave were only good because they went against team's 3rd best corners too. lol. I get the ACC reference, but Restrepo is a solid 3rd round pick and will not disappoint. He is a fighter and winner. He will be better than Polk. I know that is not saying much, but he is a good upgrade.

We need a "Unicorn" or multiple ones. Those that are fast, but can actually run routes, get open, and catch the dang ball consistently.

I take a flier on that Dionte Thornton kid from Tennessee.

Only reason I remembered the name is I saw literally one Tennessee game and he was a beast:

6’5
4.43

That’s a day two reach or an early day three grab and worth a shot
I like him and Andrew Armstrong as big bodies to take a shot on.

Huh? On what are you basing this? I can't see him running slower than the mid to high 4.5s and I expect his 3 cone to be elite.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. Julian Edelman ran a 4.52 40 at the combine. Restrepo's fastest was a 4.45 and then a 4.58 unofficially. We will see how he does in a few weeks at the Combine. Did you know Jerry Rice was a 4.71? How about Danny Amendola 4.58? We hate Puka Nacua and his 4.57, right? He is a slow bum. Wes Welker was a 4.56. We would never take any of these guys. The slot does not need a burner. It needs someone who changes direction quickly.
Goof stuff. We have a good slot already in pop.. Edelman was initially a QB but was developed into a WR. He credited BB and Brady for helping him realize his potential and how to utilize his speed against defenders. Amidst some of the worst offensive outputs the past few seasons pop has been a bright spot. Under real coaching with McDaniels and Vrabel I'd expect pop to continue his development as our slot guy.

We simply need to go back to the basics having 5 startingOL that play sound together and create lanes for the running game.. one thing I love about Vrabel is that he will be on these guys asses come camp. Let's see how many of them are riding bikes throughout the locker room this year.
When was the last time we had an OL like you are describing….feels like a long time. Good points

Last year looking back on it was really the players relaxing too much and not playing to thier potential. There was no accountability to be had for the players if they didn't put full effort. So in saying this.. the talent level of course wasn't starting caliber on the OL outside Andrews and ownenu. With 150 million in cap space I think it's sure bet this OL is upgraded.

I mean, Boldin was taken in the 2nd round, it's not like he was some neglected underdog coming into the draft, and was hugely productive at Florida St. I guess that's why I'm not understanding your point.

When I say Restrepo's slow, it's because he plays slow, and makes all of his hay from leverage against dogshit competition. He's actually really good with leverage, and has good hands, but he's not a crisp route-runner. His strengths are leverage and motor, which are good things to have if you don't have a slot receiver already. Pop Douglas is better than him. You can't play Restrepo on the outside, he's not tall enough or fast enough, or a good enough route-runner. So he'd be sitting behind Pop Douglas on the bench - and the Patriots need players who can play. That's my only point.
Good points …..I wonder what Restrepo draft stock would be if they hadn’t brought in Cam Ward and played a very easy schedule overall. Cam Ward also did himself a great favor by coming to Miami his last year…..he is good but most likely would not have gone #1 if he had stayed at Washington State…..

Agreed Ross... closer we get to FA I feel less confident we are going to sign another teams start OTs.. take Campbell at LT maybe lowe can learn from a rookie how to be an NFL OT as a back up.
Gator armed guard Campbell at 4? No way

We have to see what Pop has under a real coordinator, right? Was his first season a fluke on his natural athletic talent, or can he consistently do it under Josh from here on out? I think the biggest knock on him will be durability with his small frame. I am concerned about his football intelligence, but that is probably more related to the total idiocy he was put in under Mayo and an offense that had no clue about what it was doing. If Pop and Boutte can come through that trash, they might be pretty good under Josh.

Agreed there... he broke out in 2023. He was basically the only guy who had break away abilities. He played for BB so I don't think his football intelligence is a question. He had similarly productive seasons in 23 and 24.. when Drake had his first start Drake was able to unlock pop in the middle of the field. Your right everyone pretty much was a victim of the idiocy from last season. We still need at least 2 more WR that defenses have to be concerned with.. it will allow favorable match up for pop and Boutte.. they are probably the only 2 guys I can say will likely be on the roster going forward assuming...

Higgins likely gonna be tagged and read Godwin gonna re-up with the Bucs. Looking more and more that we will need to get our WR in the draft. Was watching a draft show yesterday and they said there is a huge drop off after the top 4: McMillen, Burden III, Golden, and Egbuka. They said there’s basically tier 1 (those 4) and then it drops to tier 3.

I think we will need to get back into round 1 to get one of them.
Bond is a top guy who was beat up in the second half of the season. I think he'd be a great add in R2 or 3. Probably goes before that. I am interested to see how he does at the combine.

Very fast but I worry about production and injury. I think he’ll fly at the combine and would be unlikely to be there in the 3rd.

I don't mean overall football IQ with Pop. I am hoping the complete idiocy of Mayo and crew did not screw his head up like Polk. I think Polk will be on this team as a second round pick. I cannot see this team fixing WR this year. Higgins and Goodwin seem to be out. The rest of the FA pool isn't great. The forum is fighting over other people's trash between Kupp, Deebo, and Kirk thinking they are some kind of treasure when they are really not. Maybe Devante Adams if he gets cut? The drafts WR class is poor compared to last year. The 2026 FA class looks better. I think we fix the lines this year and then address WR more next year.
