Player Signing Pats sign DT Jeremiah Pharms Jr. to 2-year extension

A couple things…

A player can’t play starter snaps and be considered a “situational player.”

The league still runs, successful teams anyway. Saquon just rushed for 2000 yards, Derrick Henry almost did as well… the NFL still runs the ball.

The run defense fell apart last season because of coaching and a lack of discipline. They led the league in rushing defense the year prior. Good players can play poorly if schemed poorly or nobody holds them accountable.

Godcahux was reasonably paid in relation to his snaps, tackles and his willingness to do the dirty work two gapping. Barmore contracting blood clots also forced the teams hand in re-signing him. They needed one good DT at least. Run defense isn’t sexy, but when you don’t have it you have a league worst defense.
Since he got here, he has played roughly 60% of the defensive snaps, which makes sense to some extent if you figure 2 out of 3 downs could be considered "running downs" on average. My issue with Godchaux is that other guys who make the same amount per year on average at least offer something as far as TFL or pressure in the passing game. Without getting into schemes and X's and O's and all that (which I acknowledge are probably some part of the difference), guys in the same salary ballpark like BJ Hill, Larry Ogunjobi, Daquan Jones, Harrison Phillips, A'Shawn Robinson, and Javon Kinlaw are all interior linemen and all at least have a few sacks and TFL. The last 2 years, Godchaux has had no sacks, 2 QB hits, and only 3 tackles for a loss. If the run defense was good, we could at least hang our hat as far as Godchaux goes, but for him to be this one-dimensional and the team to struggle against the run, I can't imagine there is a big difference between him and some late-round space-eater interior guys for way cheaper.

I'll take him. Solid player

I hated it then and I hate it now.
Gawd's mind is not on Football he wants to model clothes. He's lucky Barmore got injured when he did: Two Down Thumpers like him are not hard to find.

I can assure you soon we'll see veteran DT Godchaux realeased. I sense it... your take??
I don't see it, given his salary this year, and his potential value to other teams. Trade, perhaps. cut, not this year. maybe next

Agreed and you make perfect sense. I mentioned that BJ hill is a better option for us at DT and offers more with his skill set than just a one trick pony..wicj makes it easier for OGs to just block them. He got the contract because of 2 reasons.

The team was handed out $$ to utilize the cap space Last season and the situation with Barmore and judon.
I believe Godchaux is a team leader but if he is to stick around he needs to translate it to the field. Vrabel will not stand for anything less.

His salary from what I remember is not what you think he got front loaded what guaranteed money last summer. You could be right trade for a 6th rounder if anything.

BJ hill is a guy I have my eye on.. gives a bit of pass rush.. interior DL have to be able to at least give some type of threat to the OL.

If you're a ****ty team that's fine (zero cost for zero production). No one cares about nothing like the bunch of us. If you want to be better than 4 wins...

They think that I've got no respect
But everything means less than zero

She says, "Let's talk about the future now, we've put the past away"
of course
you have to hit on most of your upper echelon signings.
but you also have to take a shot with lower hanging fruit, that play in certain situations, and caan contribute, but if they don't work out, cost nothing.
Take Leverette for example. he has shown in other seasons with Tampa, he could fill in at OC and both OG spots.
for a 9th OL on the depth chart, playing 3 IOL spots is a nice luxury. he was never signed to start. he was never signed to be a primary back up. he was an emergency player at that 48-58th player (including PS).
he did not work out. but no harm. no foul. (he cost nothing)

I really hope they're not about to do what they did last season and just give their own guys contracts.

They can not afford to get off to a bad start with this rebuild

I feel like Vrabel is taking guys that are committed and all in and retaining those guys.. I'm curious to see what happens with Godchaux, Tavai to name a few.

Decent player? More like dumb as a rock and locker room cancer. We gave up 40 points and 147 yards to the Chargers and the fool said he didn't think the run game was the problem and they were playing well. He rebuked the fans for calling out Mayo. You cannot fix stupid.
I called him Godawfulchaux the last couple years and constantly got shot down for it. I'm not sure why the fanbase has some distorted perception that he's actually a good player.

He's pretty mediocre.

Tavai and Godchaux 's public sentiments are not the same. One was a mature take, the other asinine

Hes no Ted Washington but last year notwithstanding he's above average

Yeah, I don’t think Godchaux is a great fit but he’s a decent player and under contract for 2 years for a pretty cheap cost for a new team. I’d guess they could get a 4th for him, maybe with a 6th going back.
I think that Godchaux is a great fit at NT. Why do you not? It would not hurt my feeling though to move on

Pharms had a decent year we'll see if he's more than a camp Body. DT is very Deep in this upcoming Draft.
It will be interesting to see how he does when they have enough bodies to actually have a DL rotation. You know, like 21st century ****.

He's too small to be a true 1-tech NT, and he's not a good enough pass rusher to be a consistent starter as a 3-tech.
He's better than replacement level, a good guy to have on your squad for depth or injury, but I don't need to see Godchaux as an opening-game starter. We can and should do better.

And no, it doesn't have to be this year, but he shouldn't be in the long-term plans.

On the team leader piece, that is something I think should be a top priority for Vrabel. One of them is likely gone in Brissett. Andrews seems like he is 50/50 to retire. Peppers lost his captainship after the arrest. Wise is set to be a free agent, and if Bentley is determined not to be a fit, he could be cut because there is no guaranteed money. That leaves us with Joe Cardona. Which, let’s face it, he is a long snapper, and the fill-in Dugger, who had a down year. That leaves us with Maye, who likely (I hope) will be a team captain, but we honestly will need a newcomer to fill that leadership role right off the bat, like Rodney Harrison. Ideally, a defensive tone setter who has worked with Vrabel or our new DC in the past and can instill the message.
