You are spot on.

Great coaches preach the fundamentals and technique. They put players in position to succeed. They never ask them to do something they are incapable of doing in the scheme. A good coach properly assesses the player's strengths and weaknesses and deploys them accordingly.

The one thing which is undeniable is Pharms has a GREAT motor. Need to hang on to guys like that.
Many teams, and even this team's front office in recent seasons, preach about "athletes". Getting fast guys, explosive guys etc. I am suspecting that Vrabel will instead emphasize guys who give effort. What good is the fastest or most athletic guy if he only gives an effort half the time? When he's not giving effort, his value is lost and he may end up being worse than a lesser athlete who gives max effort at all times. Pharms was a guy who was always giving max effort.

Conversely there were a lot of guys on this team who did not always give effort, and they certainly weren't talented enough not to. I think a lot of them will be seeking new employment this season.

Easy resign, easy cut if he doesn't make the roster.
Young player that might improve with better coaching.
If he plays half the 457 snaps that he had in 2024 we're in trouble.
I have been impressed with Wolf's ability to sign middle and back end roster guys, that if they don't work out, the cap hit is mostly nothing.
he tried to upgrade the OL with players that have played well in the past, but did not work out here, but they came and went at zero cost.
I have no issues with the team continuing to try.
Pharms could be a 25-35% of the defensive snaps guy that contributes 5-6 sacks and is that 4th or 5th guy in a DT rotation

Yep. The big knock on the latter part of the BB regime was an overall lack of athletes/speed. So they recalibrated their draft profiles and went after those types of players (see Thornton).

To your point I suspect Vrabes would like to put emphasis on motor, worth ethic, etc.

If you're a ****ty team that's fine (zero cost for zero production). No one cares about nothing like the bunch of us. If you want to be better than 4 wins...

They think that I've got no respect
But everything means less than zero

Decent player? More like dumb as a rock and locker room cancer. We gave up 40 points and 147 yards to the Chargers and the fool said he didn't think the run game was the problem and they were playing well. He rebuked that the fans for calling out Mayo. You cannot fix stupid.
I don't get this board's fascination with Godchaux. The only reason I can think of is that Bill said he was the best nose tackle in the league or something along those lines. Godchaux is overpaid for a situational player whose situations happen to take place on running downs when the league doesn’t run anymore. With that being said, even when the other team does run, Godchaux and the run defense have been terrible. I know people on the board like to fancy themselves as some X and O experts, but Godchaux has been average at best since he has been here, and I would have no problem letting him walk.

Yeah, Ryan Cowden kinda commented on this in one of their senior bowl videos. Something along the lines of "get to talk to these kids, see how much they care, read into their inflection how much they love football".... etc

Glad to see the coaches are already at the point of evaluating who they want to stay and who they don't.
I can assure you soon we'll see veteran DT Godchaux realeased. I sense it... your take??

We'll see. It's a question of how easy they think it'll be to get his replacement. You can't always remake the whole thing in one offseason.

Hey! Oh-oh oh.

Just sensing that.. especially if we take Graham at #4.. I do like Godchaux as a leader.. but lately does more talking than play making.

Adam Butler type guy. I’m ok with it.

A couple things…

A player can’t play starter snaps and be considered a “situational player.”

The league still runs, successful teams anyway. Saquon just rushed for 2000 yards, Derrick Henry almost did as well… the NFL still runs the ball.

The run defense fell apart last season because of coaching and a lack of discipline. They led the league in rushing defense the year prior. Good players can play poorly if schemed poorly or nobody holds them accountable.

Godcahux was reasonably paid in relation to his snaps, tackles and his willingness to do the dirty work two gapping. Barmore contracting blood clots also forced the teams hand in re-signing him. They needed one good DT at least. Run defense isn’t sexy, but when you don’t have it you have a league worst defense.

That’s partly a product of the culture Mayo built, and I don’t think other teams will care much about this

Good. Ship him out and let him whine in someone else's lock room. This draft is massive in DL/NT talent. Twice as deep as an average draft.

With a dead cap of $10,666,667 and salary of $8,333,333? Nope. He is staying this year and worth the $2 million. He gets cut next year with a $3,333,334 cap hit and $11,833,334 salary and saves us $8 million.

I think the way his contract was extended I think it gives the team flexibility this season no?? He got more guaranteed money on the new deal he signed last summer??

Inrem that. Goddy was very out spoken last few seasons.. I wish his production was like his talk.. then u look at guys who did ball out to actually earn extensions like peppers who didn't utter one word about a contract.
