That's because he Sucks.

Another rotten buddy-hire by Vrabel. Very, very disappointing.

I think there's a pattern here that the only coach formerly associated with the Patriots, with the exception of ST, is Vrabel himself.

A little disappointed with Downing as the WRs coach. He's never coached that position for. Feels like coaching at that spot has been a weakness for a while so I was hoping for someone with experience in the role. Hopefully they get a good understudy as assistant WRs coach to groom for the main job there because Downing feels like a short term guy there anyway, seeing as he's had bigger roles consistently.

people make such a big deal about every individual asst. coach - like they have to have had a top unit for them to be good.
The same reason that we assume Pelligrino is good under BB or Patricia, is the same logic that would say he was horrible last year. Position coaches across the league probably vary about 1% in any particular skill that is taught. Everyone at this level knows the same stuff. It all comes down to coordinating a unit, with scheme, instinct, play calls that differentiates.

It's kinda funny watching people complain about Todd Downing as the WRs coach when he's got experience at OC, Pass Game Coordinator, and several other position coach spots. Downing is more experienced than pretty much anyone on 2024's coaching staff, but somehow, he stinks. I don't really get it. Seems like a guy who should be at least around average as a WR coach, which is a massive leap up from what we've had at WR coach the last few years.

we have such a random group of "big" names on offense now. JMD, McAdoo, Marrone, Thomas Brown.
It's going to be curious to see how this gels together.

I think this could really be THE moment of Josh's coaching life. If he pulls it together like Luke in Return of the Jedi, he will be the reason the fledgling WR's figure it out, the new/patchwork OL emerges, and Maye clicks with a new hybrid offense.
But if Josh hasn't learned from his past, this will fail miserably.

Time to see if the myth about this dude has any merit. Watching he position group, TE, do jack diddlysquat after Gronk didn’t say “savant” to me. He should give his left nut to McVay since that’s why he’s getting the Texans gig. Smart about managing his career but he’s about to show us what he can do himself.

This was Josh's decision, and he obviously preferred having a coach that was a former OC and TE coach than say a Welker.

Overall, the experience of the staff in various roles (including HC & coordinators) is not only off the charts, but also spans many teams so they know a lot of players around the league which will help with FA evaluation.

I am very excited to see this offense, I heard this is going to be an EP offense with that terminology. Bedard recently came out and said that Josh has been in on all of the offensive hires. I love all of the offensive hires except for Marone but I am only basing that on the results from his last 2 OL jobs.

Josh is a very good teacher of all offensive positions, so he will teach all of the offensive staff and then they will teach the players. I heard Sweet Feet say that Josh can watch practice and immediately know what went wrong with a particular play. I just hope the WRs can learn the offense along with Drake.

I found it a little bit odd that he turned down multiple OC openings before finally landing on Houston. Seems like a solid job… But he needs to exceed the body of work Slowik did the last couple years, which wasn’t that awful. I kinda have my doubts.

You can complain about any of the hires individually. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

But from an experience point of view everyone seems to be getting slotted in a rung or 2 below the highest levels they've achieved.
