Mapu is a big nickel guy/Patrick Chung. He can cover TEs and RBs. Decent in the run. His #s in coverage are not bad at all.

Lets see how he does with good coaching now. I really like this kid.
I do to RW.. Mapu may be of the size of a a LB but his build is that of a safety.... I really like his potential.. he just needs to stay healthy and on the field.

Qb whisperer is the rumor.
I don't have a problem with McAdoo I'd just like his job to be more explained in detail.. he never even spoke one word to the media.. let's see if Josh changes anything.

@captain stone @PatsFan2 @signbabybrady

I'm totally all in on taking Carter at #4.. was watching ESPN special on the draft with Mel kipper. We were 27th in offense and 31st in defense..Carter is 2nd best draft prospect in the entire draft. Guy IMO is a day 1 starter... so we are talking Carter, a healthy Barmore and gonzo as the pillars on defense. We'd just fill in the other spots in FA and later rounds. Having Vrabel alone is already an upgrade from the volunteer program coaches last season.
I'm down. I want Hunter, Carter, Tet in that order so let's hope 2 QBs go before us.

@Zuma I knew you'd find that funny

The prior rumor was that he was the guy who worked the most with Milton. They must like the work he did with him if that’s the case.

So now that’s 4 former head coaches who will be on the coaching staff - Vrabel himself, McDaniels, Marrone, and McAdoo — plus one former interim HC (Brown) and 1 additional former assistant head coach (Williams). Hopefully they’ll turn out to be good, but one thing we can definitely say is they have a ton of experience leading the ship this year.

The growing concern I have is you have McDaniels an EP guy for 25 years surrounded by WCO guys. I have more and more trouble to see how it’s all gonna work.

If your goal is to continue to run a WCO then they should have hired a WCO guy.

Early indication from Vrabel is that Josh will run his system with influence from WCO it would have been nice to still have some position coaches that knows the EP system and its terminology.

Now you will have players and coaches that will need to learn the EP terminology. Honestly I have trouble understanding the approach.

“He reached out to me and we got on the phone. He’s been awesome,” Maye said. “Obviously, a guy who’s done it, played in the league and won a Super Bowl. You have a respect of what he’s done and seen. I think the biggest thing is he’s been a head coach, and he knows what it’s like. So excited to get up to New England and get things going.”

“So, I have a great chance to go back -- all those years of film he has in the little database, it’s all their play-calls, all Coach McDaniels’ stuff and what he did with Tom,” Maye said. “So it’s fortunate for me to go back and study it up and get ready for this next season.”

the epo vs wco argument is sooooo overblown

If anyone had any questions about what he did…lots of good stuff there about McAdoo.
Glad they kept him on board. Im sure Vrabel will have him zeroed in on particular tasks and not spread out as much. Should be a huge help to the players to have a familiar face hanging around on offense.

EPO is no longer a real style, it changes week to week. You would never call the 2007 Patriots an original EPO.
The hardest thing is some of the terminology, the words like Bingo have different meaning in EPO vs WCO and having so many WCO coaches will be interesting how they adjust the terminology.

Maye doesn't really fit a WCO though he could run it fine it does not work to his strengths as much.

I think the good OC's adapt any system to the QB. Josh did it with Newton, he'll do it with Drake.

The dynamics of how all these WC coaches work with Josh will be interesting.

I suppose that's a clear sign they want to make the transition as smooth as possible for Drake.
Yeah, I think that is the main reason McAdoo is staying on. He will probably help in some other areas but a focus on helping QBs translate over is likely priority number 1.
