well, the saints offensive line did reasonably well the past two years... well at least in comparison to us... if that is his role, im good with the hire

I just remember him as as a head coach, but many posters on this thread were praising him as an offensive line coach.

utterly futile run in Jacksonville... year one they make the conference championship game, by year 4, 1-15... i don't think he's got the chops to be a HC... but a coordinator or position coach? i think he will do okay

Players respect coaches that have experience...such as Doug Marrone. Some of these players will respond to coaching more so then what we had there.

Saban liked him so that’s something in his favor. On the other hand I can’t think of any Alabama OL that Marrone coached there who have done great in the NFL. I think Marrone’s OL in Jacksonville was pretty good when he was their HC (their QB was Blake Bortles, need I say more), and the Saints last season were pretty good on offense until Carr went down.

Early on in this thread he was being talked about as the top candidate as o-line coach. Now i have to go back and check it out.
Turns out you were one of them

I like Marrone as a hire for OL coach. Outside of as a HC he's got a good track record
I thought he messed up bailing on the Buffalo gig because of the ownership change but it's hard to fault a guy for being leery of the Pegulas after working for Ralph Wilson. Marrone built a foundation there that Rex rode but didn't cash in on

Alabama O-lineman generally have been trash at the NFL level, before and after Marrone.

If the team takes on even half the personality of this staff, we are looking to be a tough and nasty ball club.
I hope so, i want to see them go back to the style of the early super bowl winning years. I want opposing teams to be afraid of playing the patriots

Marone is a good football coach. Excellent hire. No nonsense guy.

One concern I do have is that the young talent did not develop much under him. Penning, Ruiz were former high draft picks that did not develop much during his time there.
