TRADE FOR A WR

That’s my point, there are too many needs right now and jumping to get a guy who would be the icing on the cake is just a distraction when you haven’t started making the batter yet. There will be a fresh crop of stellar WRs next year, and the year after, and the year after that. Just focus on building the foundations first.

Exactly. We can upgrade WRs anytime. Elite OTs are much more scarce. We need to prioritize the hardest to find critical needs first. That may take time but stay focused. Get the best LT we can find right now. If there’s an upgrade available next year do the upgrade. Wash rinse repeat, until we have a solid OL. If we won Lombardis with the likes of Jabar Gaffney at WR we can do it again. Can’t win if the QB can’t stay upright.

When you have multiple critical holes You shouldn’t wait on either or force either, grab the bpa in an area of urgent need as they come. Whether the great ot youre looking for is available this year, next year, or God forbid the year after, trading for a great wr now isn’t going to stop you from getting him. We have $130m in cap space and premium draft position in each round so you’re not completely stunting your ability to build a quality OL by investing some of it in wr.

Deebo hasn't been a great receiver since 2021. He has had good years and is obviously a running threat, but he is living off the reputation of 2021.
Yeah I don't like Deebo that much either think he's that injury wall.

Agreed. Do you trust Wolf to do that?

The good news is that Vrabel has final call and Cowden will be running shotgun.

How much does that WR help if Maye is on his ass, running for his life, or in the blue tent with another concussion?

Build the line first. Good OL benefits running game and passing game both. Good OL helps make both QB and WRs better. One elite WR seems great until he tweaks an ankle. Don’t put all our eggs in that basket.
We can afford a lot of players. Why wouldn’t we build both?
The idea that we try to fix one piece at a time when we gs e 125,000,000 is crazy.
We need good players at every position and we should get as many of them as we can immediately

I'm not saying we don't have a lot of needs and should spend what is needed to fill the talent holes. But there's no way we should go into "Cap Hell". And, we can achieve what we need to without having no flexibility whatsoever. That's all I'm saying.
We are 40 mill of cap last year and have 125 mill to spend.
What that means is our roster is missing $125,000,000 of talent.

It would be far better to put talented players on the furld and end up in cap hell than to suck and save cap money

Everyone should want a Rams upset. Brown has been rumored for a while to be on the block for whatever reason. Losing Sunday may help convince the Eagles to explore trading him.

I think Brown hates Hurts and probably isn’t fond of Sirianni either.

A trade seems possible but the money is a complicating factor as well as what they would want in comp.

Yes.

Would you send our first round pick to Philadelphia for Brown?

Or, what would be fair compensation?

Absolutely not. 2nd rd pick? Id be more likely to part with. Id flinch a bit, but would do it. Would prefer a 3 and some change.

Because the draft has worked so well for that over the past 5 years
It’s not the draft, it’s the people in charge that aren’t working well.

If you look at the draft forum history the consensus wrs aren’t taken or probably even considered.

DK, AJ, Dbo, Flowers, and McConkey are all consensus should drafts. It’s pretty
maddening. Personaly was on the fence with Flowers and McConkey but they’ve crushed it.

Harry was picked because BB's friend recommended him (and then coached Harry on how to ace the interview). Polk was actually a good WR in college. But for some reason, the WR's the Pats targeted were big 50/50 catch boundary guys. Hopefully, that philosophy will change.

There’s nothing wrong with 50/50 guys but they are usually added to the mix as solid 2’s and 3s. Not focal points. Mike Evans types are super rare.

Not 1 WR on the Pats roster is irreplaceable. All JAGs.

There are plenty of guys like Douglas in the NFL.
The Chiefs are 15-2, I wouldn’t call any of their WR’s irreplaceable. They traded the best WR in the entire NFL in Tyreek and won two more championships, they won with Juju as their #1.

Fans overrate the WR position entirely. Teams win with a good collection of #2’s all the time. Blocking and QB play is far more important.

Yes.

I don’t think Brown is worth a 1st due to the contract that comes attached to him. He has many option bonuses that will become the responsibility of his new team. Very expensive. Due to this, that lowers his trade value. I would send NE’s 2nd in exchange for Brown and PHI’s 4th coming back. That would leave NE with their 1st (#4), plus two 3rds and two 4ths, meaning they could still move around the board some.

We need good players at every position and we should get as many of them as we can immediately
This this this, a thousand times this.

Remember when Georgia was putting like 5 defensive players into the first round of the draft? My fear then was simple: people look better when they have talent around them. How many were truly elite, and how many good, but looking elite because of the other mismatches the opposing OC had to deal with. CBs look better when you have a monster rush. Edge guys have wild numbers when others on the line require double-teams all the time. Playing next to Aaron Donald was the best thing that happened to every decent player on that line.

Similarly, both Uche and Ngakoue looked like all-pros when they had a healthy monster Judon on the other end of the line.

The Patriots need talent infusions all over the place. Maybe, just maybe, one really good piece on the OL will settle the ?-marks into place and we'll find that those other pieces are better than we thought. Maybe a Jeff Simmons (won't happen, but I love the guy) on the DL turns Barmore and Keion White into full-steam ahead monsters.

Whatever talent is out there, other than QB or TE or SS, the Pats should be all over it. WR? OT? Interior OL? DL? LB? FS? Yes, please. Particularly if they're quality leaders.

DK is one dimensional so you have to have the right WR group with him - not a stand alone guy. Deebo is done and not worth the money. Adams is a great guy to pair with DK, or with Hunter. Adams works his way anywhere, like Jakobi Myers, but is much better in stretching the field. Wilson is obviously the strongest candidate, but Adams is crafty. Deebo is a No for me. Adams and DK are a yes, and Adams is a lot easier to fit in. I assume Rogers is retiring so Adams has to find his way.
DK was a one dimensional player earlier in his career.. he can get behind the secondary out muscle DBs for contested catches.. he'd be phenomenal on the outside here.. pair him with deboo or.. the Wilson or adams.. theory works fine..I just want talent.. I'm willing to explore a avenues.. right now we have a solid group if of 4s at WR.. Adam, Wilson, DK Deebo immediately changes how teams would have to defend us..

On vacation so I haven't looked at the value, but swap 1sts and Brown to the Patriots?
That would be tough to swallow. A top 5 pick…..I think id do it though. Nice proposal.

Everyone should want a Rams upset. Brown has been rumored for a while to be on the block for whatever reason. Losing Sunday may help convince the Eagles to explore trading him.
But if he loses doesn't that make him slightly less desirable, I think I'd rather see him ball out win SBMVP and then insist on a new contract which we can give him since we have more cap.
