I don’t recall that being a thing.

This analysis by Athlon Sports said Polk had the best hands in the draft

Not "thought". Still wondering.

I don’t though. Someone else isn’t going to run van pelts system. Just because they have the same 50 year old stating point doesn’t mean every west coast coach runs the same thing.
EP looks nothing like what Earhart and Perkins ran any more. McDaniels system has evolved taking in concepts of wco, spread, etc to become what it has become. It looks nothing like EP that it evolved from.
Terminology. Plays. Foundation is either WC or EP. Everything is built on the scheme.

They can add West Coast plays but they are translated into the EP framework.

That’s not a big deal.

He learned WCO terminology in a camp. He can learn different terminology. . It’s not that complicated. You are making it out to be way more if an issue than it is.

Everyone has the same basic plays and concepts.

I for one think the dumbest thing we can do is make out future decisions be based upon a bad hire Jerod Mayo made, and hamstring Maye into needing to have an offense like Van Punts.

If it's good enough for Gronk:

“If I’m Mike Vrabel, the first thing I would do is call up and dial up the number of Josh McDaniels, a familiar [face] to Patriots fans, and hire him as the offensive coordinator as soon as possible,” said Gronkowski.

I guess Polk wasn’t lying. LOL!

Maybe should have a separate thread for EP vs WC system, but meantime here's an amateur attempt at some key advantages and disadvantages

EP Advantages:
  1. - McDaniels as a very competent known quantity that won't be jumping ship soon
  2. - Good for hurry-up
  3. - Perhaps better if you have a smart QB
  4. - Can run essentially the same play out of many different groups and alignments - harder for opposing defenses
EP Disadvantages:

-Switch for Maye and WRs
- Issue for new WRs (whether drafts or trades)
- Might need smarter WRs
- Not many coaches familiar with system when McDaniels leaves after a few years.

I'd emphasize again that McDaniels was happy to adjust his system to Cam and Mac, so we won't be dealing with Brady Mark II.

I’d love Luo Anarumo

Other way around. They did not decide to implement WC because of AVP. They brought AVP in because the org wanted to run WC.

Look, if you can guarantee Maye goes 4k yds, 100 passer rating, 35/10, 70% comp and they are 10-7 w/ Josh and EP, sign me up.

Until then I remain unconvinced Maye will not have a steep learning curve

Nice to see Vrabel dutifully wore Krafty's blue square

This just reminded me of an old thread here discussing it. Just found it: Excellent Article On The Patriots And Erhardt-Perkins

and the article that inspired it explaining the EP offense: » Speak My Language

Why is OC Josh McDaniels so quiet??

McDaniels said something interesting relative to his offense vs. the WC. He kept talking about the advantages and disadvantages and didn't really assess his as being much better than the WC, just different. BUT then at the very end he tossed in a hand grenade: he said that when it comes to playing late in a game in the playoffs and in championships, the ability of the QB to read and diagnose the defense is a huge advantage compared to the WC.

He made it seem like the only reason you'd run his system is a nitty-gritty moment in the playoffs when things get tight, and only then does it give you an added advantage.
