Vrabel was a hot commodity and had MANY teams interested. Maybe Vrabel put pressure on Kraft to get this done quickly if he wanted to hire him, especially after the fiasco last year.

Waiting on an in person interview with Johnson would have been super risky as it might have pushed Vrabel into a hire with another team.

I think Kraft nailed this one.

There were reports that he took the interview with the JEST as a "tick-tock" reminder to Kraft. . . .

This.! He is what Mayo thought he was. Vrabel will joke around, can play cards with the players but everyone will know the line and it will not be fraternization.
This feels like another perfect storm coming together for the Krafts. Brady /BB part 2. Lets go……

But can Vrabel help them once they’re between the white lines?
I’ve seen him banging against linemen in those coaching videos. He might still be able to get out there.

In a side note if Ben Johnson runs the EP it's probably a good thing for him to go to the Raiders with TB. Where he can be a sounding board for him and the system. Good luck to them. I'm pumped with Vrabel and Maye!

Based on what?

He's never taken anyone to any level except Brady, Mac Jones fell off a cliff after 8 games.

You could argue that's he's just Adam Gase with better PR, he scores under 20pts a game over 50% of the game when Brady isn't his QB.

Adam Gase was an "offensive genius" when he had Peyton Manning.
Thats right mac fell off a cliff once he left. I viewed him as a good oc and a very good qb coach.and from what i heard over the years he was viewed the same on a national level.

I'm optimistic but I do feel this is just more of the same. We have been starving for offense for years now. I want our team to have the ability to win a shootout.
Who doesn't? However, until we get a bunch of other guys besides Drake Maye to do that, it's going to take time. Drake can't do it by himself.

Sometimes I feel like this organization is the 25-year-old guy who never moved, wearing his letterman jacket at the townie bar on Thanksgiving break. He sees all his old friends and relives the glory days, trying to recreate that only to wake up the next morning in the same place doing the same thing he has been doing.

I don't hate the Vrabel hire, and honestly, he was my second choice for HC, but I will be pretty disappointed if we end up with McDaniels as OC, Wes as the receivers coach, etc. It just feels like the Krafts still don't want to move on and need the ties to the dynasty to make them feel comfortable. I know guys like Vrabel and Wes aren't part of Bill's coaching tree, but it just feels like we constantly make safe, comfortable hires instead of going outside the walls for someone innovative.

I am beginning to like the idea of Tommy Rees as OC. Vrabel actually consulted on offense last year with the Browns. So he worked closely with Rees. Rees has success calling plays at the college level. He seems like he could be an up and coming OC.

It's hard to know if that were true. I mean he didn't get hired last year? That said he better be prepared to feel the same expectations that Mayo had on him.

Why, he never was before, he left bb twice.

Leaving to take head coaching jobs are not a lack of loyalty. It isn't like he left Belichick to be an OC elsewhere.

That said, I am not sure that McDaniels not take a job here out of some sense of loyalty to Belichick. Nor would I think Belichick would hold it against him. Belichick's own son was on the staff last year under Mayo. And his other son probably would have taken the DC position if Mayo offered it rather than trying to demote him.
