This time next week, we should have a coach then.
I'm glad they're committing to the Johnson interview.
If Johnson doesn’t blow them away on Friday., Vrabel will be the new HC of the Patriots by Monday.

I like Vrabel, I am just worried about his OC choice. Honestly i don’t want McDaniels. I think his offense is antiquated. It’s gonna be under center, 2 backs, FB. Turn your back to the defense and make a read. Maye has barely run under center in his life. I just don’t think those new QB are able to run those kind of offense.

And if he brings Tommy Rees who maybe his an up & coming modern innovator, you are pairing an inexperienced OC again with a 2nd year QB. I am worried about that.

If you bring Johnson, I know Maye will be in good hands.

I like an old school offense, only as long as they have the ability to throw the ball. I don't want the Pats to be like every team where trickery is involved before the snap. For example, almost every team has a WR that runs one way and then back around the RB pre snap. Too many teams are copying each other. There's too much read option nonsense with offenses these days. Also, I've noticed more WR's need pick plays to get open or other type of trickery. They aren't as talented as they used to be.

An advantage a team can have is taking a capable QB and building a devastating ground game around him because teams don't build their defenses to stop the run. Most front 7's are soft. I haven't seen a team do this yet. Teams like the 90's Cowboys, 49ers, 1998 Vikings and 1999 Rams would be unstoppable in this era. Brady with a monster ground game like with Dillon in 2004 would be too easy for him.

Ben Johnson seems to be dilly dallying. If that's the case get done with Vrabel, hire him and strat assembling staff , rebuild the front office, increase operations staff, get the ball rolling on draft criteria and the model and use the model on past players to see how the hit rate is.

Identify free agents who need to be spoken to.
What we know (or what I've seen anyway):

- Lions gave Johnson permission to interview between Thurs and Sat.
- We have the Vrabel interview scheduled for Thurs.
- We have the Johnson interview scheduled for Fri.
- Today is Wednesday.

I don't see how to conclude that anyone is dilly dallying.

But you need an offensive line for that….

"Back in my day we didn't have trickery such throwing a football. We ran it and we liked it!" You know that was a sentiment at one time where throwing was actually trickery.

I consider a flea flicker, jet sweep and possibly qb sneak trickery. Motion pre snap is so far beyond trickery these days.

That being said...Barkley and Henry are having great years running the rock.

Read Option's only nonsense if the QB never keeps. Drake Maye never keeps on the read. Milton kept twice on the read, scored a TD on one.

That's not 'Joe Milton is better than Drake Maye' that's, 'If you want the read option to work, the QB has to occasionally keep the ball, otherwise, just block up a dive play.' A coaching point that he probably didn't get.

What? McDermott has made the playoffs every year except one and took a Tyrod Taylor led team to the playoffs his first year. He has been apart of developing Josh Allen into a perennial MVP candidate and they have been Super Bowl contenders the last 3 years. If you're mad about them not risking guys getting hurt in a meaningless game against us on Sunday then just say that because otherwise saying the Bills have a losing culture is asinine.

Obviously you make a point. I was trying to short circuit Ring's Pacman level thought process to end that conversation.

The Red Sox were in the playoffs a lot for decades. Before they won was their culture a winning one?

If you are a legitimate NFL coach, you win with Josh Allen. Period. McDermott is a legitimate NFL coach for sure, but 15 guys could easily have accomplished what he has with the team he's had, and most would have gone further.

I really like the Bills this year in the AFC.

Team with mediocre coaches and great talent always suck you in.

are we trying to make the playoffs next year or trying to win a SB at some point in the near future?
Making the playoffs next year would be extremely optimistic considering our lack of talent. Just saying it has been done before by first time head coaches, so this is NOT a valid reason to disqualify Ben Johnson from our new Patriots HC search.

Brady is an owner and they have the 6th pick in the draft to get a QB or move up to get one.
Why would Brady having a share of ownership make Vrabel take a bad job? There are no worthwhile QBs to take.
The patriots already have the QB and the 4th pick.

They are friends and Vrabel trusts Brady. He would report to Brady and not bowl head. Raiders are in excellent shape with $110 mil in cap space and a high 1st round draft pick. It’s a good opportunity for Vrabel.

Why in the world would Mark Davis give Brady all that power?

Yeah I’m not getting the Brady thing. He may have influence but he definitely doesn’t have control. Davis has fine say. Brady isn’t the GM nor the coach.

I really can’t imagine Brady changes much. Jordan owning the Hornets was supposed to attract all these stars. Didn’t happen.

The argument being made is apparently that Brady having a small ownership share means Vrabel would consider that the best job. Makes no sense

Part 1. Chiefs and Lions make the Super Bowl
Part 2. Chiefs talk up the "3 peat" for two weeks
Part 3. Lions absolutely smoke the Chiefs in the big game 54-27
Part 4. The next day, Ben Johnson announces that he is the new Head Coach of the New England Patriots
How do you keep Johnson's potential staff hanging until then? Other opportunities come and go. Is there backchannel communications going on in situations like that? And to test your hypothesis, must Johnson wait until after the SB to get announced for the job?
