Milton already getting inquiries

You trust the organization as it is TODAY to upgrade the team on a 4th rounder? Make more impact than Milton could?
Considering Milton probably won't have any impact since his job is to ride the bench, yes.

Not me. He's worth keeping right now. His ceiling is probably a 3rd rounder, considering all Bill got for Jimmy G was a second. We can debate whether Bill sold cheap or not, but unless Milton takes over for multiple games and wins a ton, his value is probably maxed out at a 3rd rounder.

You may never get a better offer than you get today.
They probably won't. Barring an injury to Maye, Milton is unlikely to play meaningful snaps by this time next year. If Maye gets injured, he won't be playing third stringers. If you get a 2 or 3 you take it.

Bill got a 2nd rounder for Jimmy because of the contract situation. The 49'ers got him at the end of October (31st) and didn't have him ready until the end of the next month. They had essentially a month of practice and a month of him playing to make a decision on giving him a new contract OR franchising him OR deciding he wasn't worth it.

Milton you are also trading the rookie contract.

Right, which is why I want to keep him unless its something dumb. As you said, he's unlikely to play meaningful snaps anytime soon.

I can’t imagine that he’s increased his value to the point where an offer will exceed his value to the team as a backup.
inquiries to a player under contract?

A good back up QB is worth drafting in the 3rd rd. Belicheck routinely drafted QBs in the 3rd rd to fill the backup spot. KOC, Mallet, Brissett.

There is zero reason to trade Milton for a 3rd this offseason or even a second.

You need a backup QB and capable backups make 6mil a year.

In the draft yes. After the draft everyones value changes. A back up does not go for a 3rd when you don't expect them to get playing time.

But you aren’t getting a 2 or 3.
Of course you trade the guy if someone makes an offer based upon him playing over his head against backups trying to lose, but no team is that dumb.

inquiries to a player under contract?
They’re inquiring to the Pats if he’s available to trade. My guess is that these inquiries won’t lead to offers that really make it worthwhile to trad whim at this point.

The fact that other teams are sniffing around kinda hardens my resolve. They're seeing what I'm seeing.
The more they want him the more we should want to keep him.

For pick #193, JM is a great asset for this team or as future draft capital.
Small body of work against a watered down team, but nonetheless much better than expected...
This may allow the Pats move on from Jacoby, instead keeping a 3rd emergency GB on the practice squad..
Developing backup QBs can be a good business. BB made some profits doing it for a few years.

Keep Milton as backup, let Brissett ride off into the sunset, draft another raw QB in the sixth round to develop and flip in a couple of years.

People need to calm down about Milton.
1. Bills were playing 3rd string D - it's exactly how Joe would look in preseason.
2. Joe still holds the ball a long time. And for some reason our OL looked like a pro team for the first time all year.
3. He has skills, no doubt, but will need to learn to beat a gameplan defense.
4. Better than Zappe! So keep him around. At best its a RG3 / Cousins situation - if Maye collapses or gets a major injury next year.
Don’t say that to potential trade partners!

Not to be a downer, either, but it's good to have Drake insurance. We all thought Mac looked like he would probably be "the guy" for the Pats long-term after 2021 even if the end of the season did fizzle slightly. Obviously that went downhill fast. I don't think we SHOULD be overly concerned about Drake fading too, but in the remote chance that happens, it's pretty nice to have a QB like Milton chilling there just in case, yeah?

If it's year 3, Drake's proven himself, and he's looking at his big contract extension - then you can start thinking about moving Milton, if offers are still good.
Drake is already two concussions above ideal baseline. He’s not yet in Tua’s league, but enough to be concerned. Need a good backup.

Agreed, that no one is going to give up much for him yet to where it would be worth losing him. A conditional 3rd/4th at max. I wouldn't really be in business personally until someone puts a 2 on the table. I don't think anyone will

Mac fizzling had as much to do with coaching as it did Mac's reflection in the mirror.

All this guy's done is improve, and when given the opportunity, played his ass off.

I don't understand all the ****ting on him in this thread. We'd better hope that Maye doesn't have concussion issues going forward, he had 3 this season.

Joe Milton will win an important game at some point. Hopefully the ****ting will cease then.
