It looks like Ewers is staying, and I heard today that Miami's making a run at Carson Beck to try to keep him in college, so that takes a couple of QBs out of the mix.

The line was barely average as they lost some talent. look at what he is doing in BAL with that line, WRs and QB. Can't do well vs 8 in the box 90% of the time.

They were pointing the finger at the wrong people.

I think you aren't seeing the big picture there. Vrabel had zero personnel control. That is a fact.

It's 2025. HC's don't have roster control. Bill was the last guy to have that he couldn't maintain it at the end. The Patriots do not need to be an archaic franchise where a former linebacker is the one building the team because he saw his old coach do it after having decades of knowledge.

Every coach could make excuses for why the failed. Mayo could literally say "the greatest coach ever had the same record as me and I had less roster control than him". We are knowing looking at hiring another former Patriots linebacker whose excuse for failure is the GM didn't do enough. Great plan.

I wonder how much the fact that Johnson's not going to be available potentially until after the Super Bowl plays into this.

If he's the guy you want it won't matter but they can only do virtual interview until their season is over. Does in person matter? IMO it Shouldn't in this day and age but not sure.

It also depends on what Johnson says he has for staff. He's been a known possible candidate for HC positions for 2 years, so you think he has a staff all lined up but if he does not that's a problem because of all the time he has to devote to the Lions and how teams will hire available assistant coaches before his season is finished.

If Johnson interviews well and is well prepared to come in with a staff, it won't be an issue especially if the Wolf team stays.
If those things don't happen then you probably don't want him anyways.

Knowing Vrabel could start work 3 weeks before Johnson is an edge to Vrabel.

I think Ben's the better move. The Patriots have been stuck in the old "get someone familiar, get a defensive guy who wants roster control". They want a model that stopped working a long time ago because we had past success with it even though the entire league has moved past it.
