Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

I would have fired him the moment he put Maye back in last week’s game. That was totally irresponsible, and completely self serving. Kraft should have gone to the locker room at halftime, pulled him out, and told him to go clean out his office and not come back.
But you don’t understand… he “wanted to play”

I feel fairly confident that if Mayo is moved on from, he will not be fired but will instead be “reassigned” into a cushy role away from football ops and more in a marketing type position. But still be permitted to observe how things work for his future education.

This is why I think Vrabel is the best option - Vrabel would be able to handle such an awkward circumstance, he would be able to tell the team to STFU about Mayo and tell Mayo to GTFO if he tries to stick his nose into things, and Kraft wouldn’t take offense like he would if it was a guy Kraft doesn’t already know and trust. Vrabel is also an ex-LB who played in this scheme like Mayo was so he can speak to that in the same way Mayo tried to do but with some actual level of success.
If the word is true that Mayo was backstabbing Belichick, then it's evident that Mayo is simply poison to have in this organization. He has to be completely cut off so he doesn't sabotage things in the future. I'd be suspicious that Mayo wouldn't want his replacement to succeed anyway and that he would always be a problem type of person from within

Fire Wolf and let the next GM make the call on Mayo. Doubtful it would be a different call than what we all hope it is and Kraft saves face. Win win.
This is the thing that really pisses me off. You would think Bob learned his lesson from 1997-1999. Three headed monsters don't work.

Pom Pom was coach.
Notorious Bobby I. Greer was GM
Andy Wacynzuck was CFO/cap guy

Now he has Wolf as GM. Mayo as HC and whomever as the money person. I really don't know. In theory it's Wolf but my belief is Bob/Jonathan tell him what he can spend.

Either have a coach like Pom Pom in SEA or Reid in KC be the organizational head and have them bring in a GM OR get a Howie Rosen type and that GM is responsible for the HC.

Christ's Sake pick a leader and not this committee collaboration BS as it clearly does not work.

Like Adam Gase, Mayo should’ve been fired after his first press conference.

That some some weird ****!
Spot on! After that press conference, a bunch of us said this is not going to go well. Kraft made a stupid move and my gut was that this was a hire to boost Kraft's public relations image. And it's really tough to do much worse

It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

While it wasn't a definite thing, they played pretty hard for Bill the last game of the year vs the Jets.

They played hard for Pom Pom his last game vs BAL and won.

I think they'll play hard for Mayo...they'll just look like the same mistake-prone, disorganized bunch.

The coach we bring in doesnt matter. The talent on this team is ****ing trash. We have to focus on bringing in someone who is going to help rejuvenate the entire operation. Bring in a guy like Ben Johnson, is it fair to ask him to do all that? What’s more important at that point? I’d argue the GM. Maybe we’re all focusing on the wrong thing. Get your GM. Let them reset everything.

One of the things I hate about the internet is that things magically disappear when you try to go back and look for stuff. I just saw graphic in a video talking about Mayo that mentioned he signed a 5 year deal. I've been going through my YouTube history and I can't find it in any video I recently watched. It's extremely annoying as I just saw it yesterday or the day before.

I'll keep trying to look.

Teams also rated Bryce Young and Caleb Williams the #1 pick, there are 1/3 of teams that picked guys to coach that turned them into 5 win and less teams. Who cares what other teams do?

Who thinks AVP is a top candidate? There is 1 top candidate, Ben Johnson. He's (AVP) in the middle of OC's like most of the OC's in the league.

AVP has a ton of experience, AVP has years coaching a system. You think he spent 20 years coaching in the NFL and doesn't know anything?

I think you over-estimate the # of good offensive coordinators in the NFL, they all study, they all copy each other. Yet only, what, 8 of them would have good offenses without a great QB? And 7 of them are head coaches!

I'd love to hear your list of AVAILABLE coordinators that took mediocre talent and make them a top offense? What OC's do you watch and say, Wow, innovative stuff!
Are you saying that Ben Johnson doesn’t have talent to work with?

They’ve looked awful and confused all year and then Mayo comes out and says “they played hard” and “they showed up to work”. So for them that is “playing hard”, I wouldn’t expect it to look any different.

A 5 year deal would be rich for a first time HC. Maybe they meant he had been here for 5 years as a coach. The buyout only being $10M would be low too.

All good. It's happened to me before as well.

I did some poking too and the only 5 year deal I saw was when he was a player.

If true I am absolutely shocked his deal is at that length. Horrible

Exactly. Playing hard is not the same as playing smart, disciplined, and technically sound football.

But throwing their bodies in harms way does indicate their willingness to attempt to play hard.

I haven’t even really seen that lately. And it’s the last game of the year, it’s prime time to make “business decisions”. Especially if they are starting to feel like Mayo might be gone, they’ll know they need to be healthy to get a deal above vet minimum from another team next year.

If Kraft was smart, he’d fire the entire coaching staff today so the players have no idea what the hell they are doing tomorrow and then begin interviewing

Wolf blaming Mayo:

Get ready to get your socks knocked off, because I found it! It was from a post from you Ross on X that's why I couldn't find it. Look at the caption below.

That’s… really stupid. I bet it is accurate since Kay knows Mayo from the old NBCS Boston days.

What the hell was Bob thinking?

Then again, if it is like a $10M total value but spread across 5 years now then that means Kraft only owes Mayo $2M a season, including this year even if he’s fired. That’s pretty easy to stomach if you dump him. Almost like financing your HC cost. Lol
