Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

I think there already is a major locker room problem and something the Krafts need to dig into.

Seems no one has come to Covington's defense which is interesting.
I was listening to a podcast recently (I think it was with Taylor Kyles) and he said that he noticed the same thing - people talk about Mayo and AVP but no one ever talks about Covington. So he said he asked Jonathan Jones (IIRC) about what good things Covington has done and how he's grown this year and got a response along the lines of "well it's his first year... it's hard..."

Which Mayo hired him.
Fire Mayo clean house end of story.
If the players don’t like it, half of them won’t be back anyway under a new regime.

Why isn’t Jerod being held accountable?

Maybe a little bit of a weird idea, but what about if Kevin Stefanski is fired in Cleveland... bringing in Stefanski to NE to replace Mayo but keeping Van Pelt?

Stefanski and Van Pelt were pretty solid together in Cleveland, especially last year. The decision to dump AVP was an ownership problem. AVP's one issue is playcalling, which Stefanski would handle. Stefanski could also likely bring in a solid DC, and they would also most likely be happy to work with Wolf at least for a time.

If Stefanski was open to coming in as an assistant HC and playcaller, while Mayo is kept, maybe that works. If Mayo is still awful next year, Stefanski would be a good interim HC.

Really great suggestion, IMO. Young enough to last for a while if he succeeds here and he's an offensive-minded coach that should be good for Maye. Not that AVP is some amazing coach that we need to keep at all costs, but he seems to be doing well for Maye and the plausibility of Stefanski keeping him on staff is a nice little boost. Stefanski would be coming in with a decently established track record that a solid DC candidate could be willing to join and implement his system with his own staff.

I don't like Wolf and prefer a total rebuild, but it seems like they deliberately punted on free agency last year as part of a multi year plan not focused on immediate returns. Debate if you want, but it seems like there was a clear organizational plan on that which I'm sure Kraft signed off on. So I find it unlikely Kraft is going to fire Wolf 1 year into a multi year strategy. The working relationship there makes some sense.

I go back to Wolf saying we missed out on Ridley due to money.
And Kraft saying it wasn’t money he wanted to be closer to his family.

I think that is not a bad shout. Personally I think AVP should be kept, he has tailored the Offense to suit a rookie QB and Maye seems to like him. Defensively I think Covington has to be discarded, the defense have been pretty awful.

I wanted us to hire Mayo and was a big supporter of his on here and I have been disappointed. He used to give great interviews before he became HC which showed a good head and a capable communicator. That disappeared as HC for some reason.

The other disappointing part is I have not seen much progress throughout the season. That is a red flag IMO.

That said, the front office is a much bigger issue and it needs to be completely cleared out. If done, I would be ok with keeping Mayo or hiring a new HC.

Ray Agnew,
Scott Pioli
I'm not convinced Pioli is that guy. I'd rather have Dimitroff.

Ray Agnew is a very interesting name. Fmr player here. Scouting background. Promoted during the McVay years. Has been a key exec in DET.

Yeah but then they later reportedly offered Aiyuk more money than they did Ridley after agreeing to a trade with SF. I got the sense this offseason they were willing to overpay for a low end #1 WR because it would be important for developing the QB and the other WRs. But the bidding with Ridley just got to a point they thought was too much of an overpay, because he's a really, really low end #1 probably to the point where he's not really a suitable #1 at all even. Aiyuk figured to be lower tier #1, but still in that tier (before injury obviously) so they were willing to go higher.

I would love Agnew and a Ben Johnson combo could set us up for the next 10 years.
I'd like to understand why DET and LA chose Holmes over Agnew as they both worked together for the Rams. Holmes was promoted in LA with greater speed than Agnew.

Johnson has done a great job w/ Goff no question. Very good offensive mind.

I think Ridley with Maye would be elite.
He has more big play ability than Aiyuk.
I see Aiuik as a rich mans Cordarelle Patterson.

I was on board with the Mayo hire cause I trusted Kraft.
Seeing what has unfolded and watching the dynasty series, I no longer hold him as a great football mind. I felt we were sold a younger Belichick like mind who could relate to the players, what we got is a volunteer rec football league coach who has more excuses than ideas or solutions, who calls out criticizes and alienates players.

We went from a coach who would account for each blade of grass on the field to a coach who didn’t realize the wind changed directions mid game.

Realistically speaking it makes sense to try to absorb that Cleveland staff further if they are fired. That crew was good in 2023 with Joe Flacco. Now picture building up the same thing but without the gargantuan fully guaranteed deal to Deshaun Watson hanging as an albatross over your cap picture, plus adding Drake Maye. It aligns with the roster building vision Wolf has.
