Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

On the flip side....

Tons of cap space
Top 5 pick in the draft
Solid prospect at QB with a ton of upside
Stable ownership
Major market

The league knows Bill needed to move on. I don't think there would be any concerns about that one. The Mayo/Wolf considerations will need some explaining as to why there is a lack of patience.
Mayo’s performance this year is self evident for why the experiment should be ended.

It’s not like we were 8-9 or even 7-10, and looking for a marginal upgrade.

Mayo failed miserably. He showed no signs of growth or any hint of competence.

I go back to 1980 which was my first cognizant year of Patriots fandom.

First of all, I will ALWAYS watch the games (as long as there isn't something pulling me away/higher priority/family, etc) and follow the team. That will never change. However, my emotional investment will change.

From 1980 all the way to 2023 it was the same. Certainly years like 1982, 1990, 1992, etc are killers. I was young and still watched. Rudderless operations like 1988, 1999 and 2023 weigh on the soul but you hang in there because of hope.

For me there has to be hope to warrant my emotional investment. If there isn't hope for the future and the product on the field sucks then my emotional investment is low.

This past year was in purgatory....top draft pick...$120m in cap space...stable ownership...seemingly solid QB prospect with high upside..Krafts are still solid owners (as opposed to Victor Kiam). It's all set up for success....but horrible leadership, personnel decisions, and a crap product on the field chewed into that hope in a major way.

I guess i'm emotionally invested still because there is hope. Still posting here, watching the games, reading articles, etc...

However, if they bring back Mayo it'll go down. No question.
That's about where I am. But hope is hanging by a slim thread. If the Krafts stick with Mayo then most of that slim thread will have frayed away. If they retain Wolf and he blows the draft then that remaining tiny fiber breaks and I'm left reconsidering whether further investment of my attention to their flailings is worth the aggravation.

Maybe since I live in Philly I ride the Eagles train for a while.
My grandpa got me into The Patriots when Bledsoe was drafted.
Prior to that I was just watching players, Barry sanders, Brett Favre l, didn’t really have a team and I didn’t want to be a Eagles fan like all of my class mates so it was perfect.

This is truly a nexus moment for the franchise.

You have a young franchise QB, probably the #1 overall draft pick, and league high cap space.

The Pats are a desirable destination for highly qualified HC and front office candidates, and there are some available THIS year.

This is a perfect storm, and how the Krafts respond will define the franchise for a decade.

These opportunities do not come along often. This is where a HOF owner would show why he belongs in the HOF.

Choose wisely Bob. You don’t get a mulligan, and you cannot stall for time by keeping Mayo for another year.

Yea thats the thing. Are all the picks which did not produce in 2024 Wolf's fault or Mayo's? I'm not sure. Hell, we have a WR coach who last coached the position in 2005. WTF.

Cap space - which Wolf is in charge of
Top 5 pick - which Wolf makes the selection on
Solid Prospect at QB - in Chicago he can get Williams, in New York he can pick his own QB
Stable Ownership - as long as they aren't going to Orchids of Asia or trying to take credit for everything
Major Market - with the one of the worst media groups who were routinely down Bill's throat mid dynasty.

I may like the bosses who don’t care if I take breaks on the clock or don’t ride my ass but I’m less productive and I make less money for my company.

So this is a tough one, the players voice matters but the results are the results.

Needs to change

Assuming the resident GM doesn't have that authority
Stable Ownership - as long as they aren't going to Orchids of Asia or trying to take credit for everything
LOL

Meh. It's the same all along the east coast north of the Carolinas

Veteran running back Antonio Gibson believes the Patriots would be dead wrong to make Van Pelt the fall guy after the season.

I know a lot of people have been trying to attack him, but we’re the ones who have gotta go out there and play,” Gibson said at Gillette Stadium on New Years Day. “They call the call in and we’ve gotta execute. Our execution this whole year has been on and off, never consistent. So to throw him under the bus would be completely wrong. He has a lot of great things that are drawn up for us. Sometimes it gets shaky, but when it’s his fault he takes responsibility for it, and when it’s our fault we do the same thing. So I’m rocking with him.”

Gibby, buddy, you're talking to the wrong people. We're not throwing AVP under the bus, your head coach is...

It does raise an interesting question though. Gibson and Henry, and Maye, have all spoken up for AVP. If they scapegoat AVP but keep Mayo and Covington, that seems like a real potential locker room problem.

None of them are going to come work here under Mayo. Nick Caley, really? He already said no to this job last year. Why would he change his mind now?
Man, I would really like to know what the water cooler talk assessment is of the Pats' HC and owners among the NFL's coaching population. What do they say when they talk to each other about coming to work for Mayo or the Krafts?

.....and with how the Rams season has gone (and ours) he made the right call.

I wouldn't be surprised if LaFleur becomes a HC somewhere and Caley slides in and becomes OC.

I think there already is a major locker room problem and something the Krafts need to dig into.

Seems no one has come to Covington's defense which is interesting.

In Wolf’s defense, we need to upgrade our WR coach to competent.

When is the last time we had one? Certainly Troy Brown wasn’t competent.

Didn’t Polk look promising in training camp?

When did he start to show issues.
