Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Mayo was asked this morning by Mike Reiss “what are the most impactful things you’ve accomplished as a coach this year?”

Mayo stammered for a few seconds obviously not able to think of anything and ultimately answered with “I weathered the storm”, which is another way of saying “I didn’t get fired yet”.

There you have it folks - Jerod’s sole accomplishment for 2024 - “didn’t get fired yet!”

Reiss was in a show this morning and he talked about one of the good things Mayo did (maybe the only one) is the way they brought Maye's along in week 6 and I agree with that.

I still can’t tell if that was his call or AVP’s or Wolf’s. And even if it was AVP’s accomplishment, he still might be getting fired as the scapegoat for Mayo.

Right. In theory it's Mayo's call but he reports to Wolf. However Mayo is Bob's guy. Maybe Bob told them not to let what happened to mac again and they obeyed?

This is the problem when it isn't clear who it is that runs things.

He’s like the opposite of Bill. Bill was responsible for everything. Mayo is responsible for nothing.

I don’t think that has remotely close to anything to do with Mayo.

Chad Finn, one of the few decent writers left in this town destroyed Mayo in today's article. He wants him gone.
Almost every writer and journalist at this point is saying something along the lines of “Mayo definitely needs to be fired - let’s see if Kraft will actually do it”

They are going to beat the Bills back ups, it's going to cost us the draft pick and give Mayo next year.

But none are saying, “I’m hearing the Krafts intend to fire him.” The Krafts aren’t that secretive. They would have told lots of people already if they were serious about doing it.

Disagree. A big part of Mayo's job as head coach is putting staff together. If it's AVP and the offensive coaches doing the bulk of the work, you have to give Mayo credit for hiring that staff. Let's be real here, no one was calling him a genius for hiring AVP. No one was saying it was a no brainer move. People were widely panning it, in fact. We can hate on the job Mayo has done all we want, but if you're being fair and balanced you have to give him credit if his unpopular hire for OC is doing a good job developing the QB.

I don't think a week 18 win vs the Bills' 2nd teamers is enough to save Mayo's job. I would be another reason (s)

Yes the assembly of staff is on Mayo but inserting a rookie franchise QB in as starter is an organizational decision.

I completely agree that you need to jump through a ton of hoops to give Mayo credit for anything good.

I just don't think it's jumping through hoops. Mayo had the tough job of hiring an OC/offensive staff that could do a good job of identifying and developing a young QB to a team that candidates were avoiding like the plague. He made what appears to be a good hire considering the tough circumstances. That's a good job. It doesn't absolve him from all the criticisms, but you gotta be willing to give credit for the good if you want your analysis to be worth anything. Otherwise, it's just whining.

But... wasn't it Wolf that did that? Shouldn't we be crediting Wolf, by that logic? Mayo wanted to hire Nick Caley and got snubbed. He had to call in a favor to Wolf to find someone for him because he had no other connections, and that turned up Van Pelt.
