This statement alone says Covington should be fired

How difficult is it to say "I need to do a better job of putting the defense in positions to succeed?"
Me and Jerod are racking our brains trying to come up with wrinkles to pressure and confuse the offense, see alot of people think it’s only the QB. But if you can outhink the line confuse and disrupt the routes with on and off coverage a mixture of man, zone, quarters. Bringing a cornerback blitz off the edge in a passing situation just to test the waters and see how the qb reacts, we don’t want him to know who’s coming and when they are coming,

Everyone rushing to the ball and whoever has the ball I want our guys to attack the ball while tackling every-time unless we are talking about a third down or a short down and distance. I want teams to remember they played us and need to spend the next 3 days in the ice bath to recover from the physicality of our players, I want our guys to play smart but angry I don’t know what the other guy did to you but think of something because if you aren’t playing fast and smart and mean you can’t play for us,

Does that answer your question?

Prepare yourselves because I'd almost guarantee the coaching staff and front office will come back next season almost fully intact.

Belichick pretty much has said the same thing here and there over the years.
There are numerous examples of him saying the same thing over the years.
We are extremely weak in the middle ... that needs to be addressed ... need more speed and intelligence there.

Q: How much as a coach do you have to adjust to the way players come into the program nowadays as part of a younger generation given how they may receive information differently than players from earlier generations?

BB: Yeah, I don't know. Every year is different. I think each of us - every player, every assistant coach, head coach, everybody in the organization - is constantly trying to improve their performance and make efforts to find ways to do things the best possible way. I think we're all doing that, whatever that is.

How is the bourbon this evening? Maybe a second glass? Pats fans are morphing into JETE fan territory? That is very harsh. Maybe a third glass? Or the whole bottle?

I said "some of their supposed fans" which isn't 'harsh' at all, just the truth.

You can see posts here almost every day comparing the Pats to the Jete. OFC they're largely from the loser/troll contingent who were only Pats fans in a pink hat sense that are sudden lifelong fans of whatever team is winning. Then there's that group whose delicate little sense of self was tied up in their phony fandom making them 'winners' too because 'their team' was always contending. Poor fragile souls, they're outraged over the losing. They've been betrayed! How could the Pats do this to them??!! It's all cheap ass Kraft's fault, they've been stabbed in the back by him and Mayo!! Martyred, just like BB. Where's the parades they signed up for?

Can you see what I did there through that cognac induced haze? That 2nd paragraph, now that was harsh although also true.
Being secure in who we are some of us can put things in perspective, take a sip of our favorite adult (maybe even French) beverage and ruefully shake our heads at the current mess. Knowing we were gifted a hella run in the outrageously long BB/Brady salad days and re-births are often messy. Those sad folk that NEED 'their team' to win so they can feel superior probably belong in therapy.

You and I and the those like us? I know we still belong at the bar. Just please don't order ay of that froo-froo French stuff when the other guys are around. Not all of them are enlightened enough to know that here in the 2020's it's okay to let your freak flag fly and be as.. uh.. Fremch as you feel and you wouln't want to make them uncomfortable.

It's different when Belichick says it because we like him more.

Considering that we now have threads discussing the merits of firing Mayo, Wolf, AVP and Covington, perhaps a thread should be created to discuss if anybody on this coaching staff or front office should be retained.

I think the special teams coach seems to be doing ok.

Don’t forget the quote where he told the reporters to be thankful and proud that the players showed up to work
Remember when BB disciplined a player for being late to Gillete during a snow storm? Everyone else was already there.

Was it Spikes? IIRC, it was a LB.

Considering there's 31 fanbases that would have killed to have the run we had since Kraft owned the team and he's the reason the team is still here....
He’s a guy who got busted at a massage parlor and likes to be called Thundercat. I will always be grateful that he hired Bill and kept Bill and Brady together as long as they were, but it’s kind of hard to take him seriously.

Well, for whatever it's worth (probably nothing), I'm not opposed to keeping AVP as QB Coach. He's done a solid job with Maye and Milton as far as the fundamentals of what a Pro-QB needs to know: Footwork, Throwing Motion, Working Under Center, Etc.

Bill's dating a 23 year old. Tom Brady fell for a snake oil salesman and takes him everywhere. All these guys have questionable personal lives. Within a football context they did what they were supposed to and had success.

Springer really has been doing well. I see him on the sidelines really engaged frequently. He might be a better HC than Mayo one day lol

Don’t know what to say. There’s no winning.

Fans on this very site - easily more than half - cried for years that BB wasn’t “good with the media”. Something I never for a second could understand. Wasn’t winning the goal ? Why was talking in front of a podium even a thing for (some of) you folks ?

Now, every coach they put at a mic is being a complete idiot. Is this actually better than such hits as “we’re on to Cincy” or “I need to coach better” or “nasal grunt, followed by ‘Jesus’’ under a breath ?

Was it Adalius Thomas?

Sorry I can't read the link because not subscribed... but from the OP's quote it sounds like they asked him about their ranking fall off and he said he doesn't read into rankings and tries to focus on the week at hand? That seems pretty harmless to me...

We have to stop doing this with the over analyzing each statement.
They asked him why the defense that was ranked #1 in this metric (an important one) for the last 4 years is now 30th and he said every year is different don’t read anything in to that we just worry about working hard.
In other words, we don’t care about results we want to try hard.

I feel like if coaches or players went up to the podium and said they were so distraught about their record this year that they're contemplating offing themselves with a hand gun, there's be threads on here full of people saying that if they REALLY cared they'd do it with a shotgun.
So you are fine with the season?

That’s not close to what Covington said. Covington was asked about the defense that was good before him sucking under him and he said he wouldn’t read to much into that.

Belichick during the offseason was talking about the transition from one year to the next.
