Weird

Jacoby is on TV doing Progressive Insurance commercials.
Good agent i guess. Backup on a losing team never gets these kind of things.

I think that we will be very unhappy next year if Lowe is at best the #4 emergency OT we can get. The good news is that Lowe is signed and is camp insurance against injury and against the possibility that the other 4 OT's are truly unacceptable.

I expect us to sign 2 free agent OT's (a top starting LT and a swing OT), and to draft one LT. That would give us Wallace and 3 new arrivals.
Obviously, we would also need a couple of OT's on the Practice Squad, perhaps including Lowe, Jacobs and someone we claim before Game 1.

LOWE EVALUATION (what this season is for)
The team has had a stable OL for most of the season. Lowe has been given the chance to show that he has a future in the NFL. At best, he is a bottom of the roster player or a Practice Squad player.

JACOBS EVALUATION (what this season is for)
He isn't ready for anything but a possible #4 OT position, which is fine. Let him compete in camp, and if he doesn't quite make it, he is an OK Practice Squad option, IMO better than Lowe.
Lowe Evaluation: Can't play at the NFL Level
Jacobs Evaluation: Can't play at the NFL level

Neither of these guys would be on any other roster. How people like yourself have it in your head that someone who sucks at their job *this badly* is just fine for a backup, is just beyond me.

You can get better backups from the Walmart Dumpster than these guys.

He probably had a few before he writes those posts.

If you watch the OL play their technique sucks too. Lots of reaching and grabbing, very tentative. All the holding penalties have as much to do with technique being bad as with covering for getting beat.
Didn’t the new acquired o line coach start teaching a new technique ?

Sounds like he missed on a lot more than just QB.
There was still building to do but we would have been a competitive team, likely a playoff team last year with Maye. Look at the games. Easily 6 losses that anything but pathetic qb play would have made wins.

Why bother with the Practice Squad if we are so good at evaluation that we know that players like Jacobs aren't capable of being one of the more then 100 OT on NFL rosters and won't ever be capable.

As an aside, I can understand just cutting bait on Lowe and cutting him after the last game. I just don't want him coming into camp, getting injured and being paid $4M.

With regard to Jacobs, I don't think that we can know whether he will ever be NFL material. Consider if he had Scar as a coach. My point is that some players can be developed. IMO, Jacobs is basically free and should be considered as a 2025 Practice Squad player, a camp body.
However, I do think that there is the possibility that he can develop into a backup RT, with good coaching.

I think that we need four OT's. How many draftees do you want to depend on next year? Even in the 2024 good class of OT's, many weren't capable of anything in their rookie years.

I don’t think it’s a right technique, I think it’s the absence of coaching to correct poor technique.
Then shouldn’t this position coach be on the hot seat or microscope as well I think

Some reporters have suggested that he might be.
I haven’t read anything in this direction
Every year new coaches can’t be good but if they hire scrubs they need to fire them

Belichick with Maye would have us right back on track to compete for SBs.
This is a tongue in cheek remark I assume. Or where you seriously missing the last couple of years of BB's tenure. Patricia coaching Maye, seriously? I think not.

Yeah, they're supposed to be robots.
But the situation must be more frustrating for the veteran players than the fans.
I'll be here next year watching the team, God willing.
A lot of the rookies will be.
For players like Brissett, this may be it. And he gave everything he had.

There were several of us in the offseason pointing out the Patriots might want to consider hiring a left tackle, as that is often considered a relevant position. The wide receiver situation came up occasionally. Yes, they made a bid on the only free agent last year, Ridley. Sadly, when that failed, what could they be expected to do? But deciding not to staff the team with a left tackle was surprising.

Maye has said Brissett has been nothing but helpful, in a way that some former veteran Patriots QB's were rumored not to be.
I think he's earned the right to be politely frustrated with a 3-11 season.

Spot on. The days of BB controlling what these dudes say and do is long gone. I'd love to be a fly on the locker room wall after a game. Well maybe not.....Thing about the tackles is we did hire some. A few and got squat. Mr. I got a disease Anderson and the Quitter come to mind. Venereal Lowe being the main man says a lot. What are the chances of all of these dudes not being able to play? I mean really....it's payback for the years of beatdowns we gave out. Now we are like any other bottom dwellers and only hoping to ruin someone's playoff standing....
