Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Isn’t Schefter and Kraft in business together.
Schefter is as tied in as anyone, and the way he carefully worded it makes it seem like someone high up in the building wants it known that Mayo is on notice.

There’s what I was looking for.

So if we get no more wins or the team looks unprepared or blown out Kraft is firing Mayo it seems.
I bet the fans and Jonathan are driving that bus.

I really don’t understand your point at all. I’m “soft” because I might not want to watch a team that almost completely doesn’t even try, led by coaches that have no idea what they’re doing and just point fingers at each other, and I really should be watching because the QB is good and he makes some good plays sometimes? That’s worth 4 hours of my weekend every week for 17 weeks?

I’m all for supporting plucky losers, bad teams who are trying their best. But have a hard time supporting a team who couldn’t care less themselves.

Ross, I understand your frustration with this team, which I share. But one would think being a moderator/site staff member here, you are obligated to watch the games.

In answer to the proverbial question, @Ross12 doesn't watch the games, he watches the watchers.

Now you know...

...the rest of the story.

Tannehill was a mediocre QB his entire career.

Out of 6 years in Miami, he had one ok season where he played 13 games and had a 8-5 record, but didn't last until the playoffs. The rest were 500 or worse.

The only sniff of success Tannehill ever had was under Vrabel.

Why don't you give Vrabel credit for squeezing something out of a borderline jag?

How is Tennessee now with Vrabel gone?
Because you’re ignoring how loaded the team was to focus on the QB and even during that period the QB was playing very well so it doesn’t even hold up.

You’re not giving credit to how good the talent was there and asking me to only judge it by Tannehill during a different period of his career.

The team was stacked and Vrabel only won during a 3 year period when the team was talent rich.

Seriously to dispute the team was stacked we’ve went from

…. They had a range of pro bowlers, all pros and generational athletes to “well their QB was Tannehill”… to “well okay Tannehill player well for the years they won but he wasn’t good outside of that”…

Then you said the “he’ll have a QB here” which is why he’ll win more. Yet Tannehill flat out was better in 2019 and 2020 than Maye is now. So even that argument doesn’t hold up.

One of is seriously stretching to determine how much credit Vrabel deserves, it’s just not me.

He indisputably only won when his team was loaded to the gills and his QB was playing better than our QB now. That’s not even a debate.

The only reason to think he will win here is wishful thinking.

My primary point is that Mayo's shortcomings transcend the paltry roster -- he's not just a whipping boy. Even with the roster as is, I think you'd see a quick turnaround in terms of overall competitiveness given competent coaching. The Patriots arguably should have three more wins at this point.
I don’t think they do. The team is one win off then they were with the greatest coach ever last year.

The problems go deeper.

I issued this plea yesterday: Vrabel and McDaniels back in New England. PLEASE, before they're hired elsewhere.
I’m not 100 percent against McDaniels back here as a HC if we lose Vrabel to Chi town.
Maybe the speculation the Patriots are interested in Vrabel has smoke.
But Chicago is way ahead of the game and has a stacked roster top picks and some cap.

Or you could argue they bottomed out last year and if BB was coaching this year's roster they'd be 6-8. That's not a stretch.

8 and 9
Well I don’t know if I can say that because we may not have the development we’ve seen out of Maye without AVP.

Keeping him would be a good idea regardless who the HC is:

I mean we could argue that but it’s hard to know. I don’t see a chance in hell this team gets 8 wins

Six wins by now is what I said, a 6-8 record vs. the current 3-11.

I don't know what the deal is, but it seems like AVP and Mayo haven't been on the same page for a while. Obviously, I have no way to prove that, but based on Mayo's comments since pretty much the start of the summer, reading between the lines, it just always seemed like there was some tension to me. It almost seems like a foregone conclusion that Van Pelt will be scapegoated in a few weeks.
Maye is making it awkward for team Mayo by going to bat for AVP by crediting him for his improvement.

There has to be calls behind closed doors to see that HCs would be on board with AVP staying as OC or QB coach.

Aren't we all investors in a gambling company? Oh wait... I guess we are customers.

Can someone compile a list of HC candidates that have ran a similar west coast style offense?
