This is the blueprint for ridding ourselves of Coach Jerod

IF Jonathan gets a bigger say this time, then Mayo is gone. Problem is, that would be such a hit on Bobby's pride. He went all in on the "gut feeling" - comparing it to buying BB from the Jets. That's a big tamale to swallow.
I couldn’t care less about Bobby’s pride.

He needs a reality check.

He has damaged the Pats performance since he hired BB.

I'm on record as being patient and allowing him to make mistakes and grow from them, but i'm starting to become concerned about Mayo's ability to improve.

He keeps saying dumb things and then walks them back
He passive-aggressively goes after players and coaches
He is responsible for the offense and it still sucks...other than Maye no improvement
He is responsible for the defense and they suck

Just like last year this is a sloppy, undisciplined team and that is on Mayo (as it was on Bill last year).
Why would I expect Mayo to grow and improve next year when he hasn’t grown or improved in any way over the course of this entire season? If anything he has gotten worse at his job

Exactly. He hasn't.

Some people learn at different paces but Jesus.....

There's plenty of sources saying he wanted full control and that's a big reason he got fired.

The reality is, Vrabel only succeeded when he had a competent QB, Henry and Brown. Once his star players left, he started losing. We can blame everyone else for his failure, but we've seen this play out with plenty of coaches.

Vrabel coached to his teams talent level, nothing more, nothing less.
Is it so crazy to think that a baseline for success in the league is having a competent QB and at least 1 or 2 good offensive skill players? I can't think of many teams who were successful despite having a bad QB and no other good skill players. The era of a great defense carrying a team no matter what is long gone.

Regardless I'm not even looking at this through the lens of wins and losses, I'm just seeking a team that is prepared, has real leadership and knows what they're supposed to be doing on Sundays. Vrabel gets the team back to a respectable function level. If you can give him a few decent pieces (and they already have at least 1 in Maye) then he can get something going.

I mean we have the first opportunity potentially in decades to have an open process and people want to settle for a guy who only won playoff games in single season 5 years ago because he can be "respectable" when we could look for someone who actually can be a great coach.

I mean we already just went through former defensive player for the team who is a coach on the defensive side of the ball that is known to a bit of headcase. I feel like the Patriots connection is making him extremely overrated on here. He failed once on a much better team and people think he'll be better here for some reason and get over the hump when this team has so many deficiencies it's ridiculous.

They really should just throwout anything remotely related to the old regime. Not some former player who learned under a former OC that learned from Belichick that's going to have the same defensive focus and need an offensive guy to run the side of the ball we struggled with for the better part of a decade.

Get a forward thinking offensive mind that hasn't already been ****canned and couldn't get over the hump that.

I don't see anything exciting about Vrabel or anything beyond "he can make them not look as messy". This team isn't just crossing some t's and dotting some i's away from relevancy anyways.

I dunno man, I think Vrabel is a powerful culture-setter. Who’s to say getting him, plus a solid OC, plus the dynamic abilities of Drake Maye isn’t enough to start racking some wild card appearances in short order?

I think Vrabel and Josh McDaniels would be a potent combination. They know each other and have institutional knowledge, plus Josh's HC aspirations likely are behind him -- he wouldn't be a flight risk. I've heard this floated as a possibility.

I would love the pairing.
Say what you want about McDaniels but he is a hell of a play designer.
And he loves the Krafts and the Patriots.
It makes sense.
I would be sick to see Vrabel and Josh with the Jets.

The fact that Kraft didn’t even TALK (and probably didn’t even try to talk) to Vrabel or Harbaugh before “promoting” Mayo tells us all we need to know… This was not a serious (read: adult in the room) hire.

That’s not Mayo wants to do because we should have kept Belichick then.
The more I think about it we would have been pressed to make a worse hire.
Kraft’s decision to hire him and promote Wolf, who no doubt shares a lot of responsibility for the talent drop off during the final BB years, will go down as the most absurd, egotistical ownership decision in franchise history.

Maybe he couldn’t due to the contract he already had with Mayo

With the cap space draft pick Maye and Gonzalez there has never been a better time to lure a good HC to take over the dumpster fire.
One of the biggest obstacles to getting better coaches is our ownership.

Maybe people don’t want to work for the Krafts if they have other options?
