This is the blueprint for ridding ourselves of Coach Jerod

If Daboll gets fired, and he isn't at least brought in for an interview as an assistant, I'll be pissed.

The biggest mistake they could make with Maye is to go back to the Erhardt Perkins timing offense. He’s already in a west coast offense and they should keep him in it.

If they do keep Mayo they really have to think about replacing Wolf and Groh, if someone gets Mayo good players and he sucks then they'll know they have to replace him. The front office didn't do him any favors this year.

Who would come here and hitch their wagon to Jerod?

Kraft needs to rid himself of everything from the previous regime.
Needs to go in a whole new direction and give that coach the Keys, Ben Johnson or Joe Brady is my choice.

I’m telling you…if they keep Mayo, just ****ing bring in Gruden as OC.

He’s the Doctorate level to AVP’s bachelor’s degree in the same offense.

If they insist on keeping Mayo, no young and talented OC is coming here.

Gruden will never be a HC again and would be a great mentor for Maye.

I prefer to ****can the entire staff and start over to be frank, but don’t believe Kraft uas the balls.

Gruden?

As an OC and HC, he had a top ten offense 5 out 18 seasons and just once in the last two decades.

He had a bottom 10 offense 7 out of 18 seasons.

And he’ll still be a tremendous upgrade over where we are now.

But he’d quit in two weeks after seeing what Jacoby just described from the inside.

One would hope so. That doesn't make him qualified for the job, however.
I'm willing to let him learn because I don't feel like the HC is the main problem on any team unless they're making game changing mistakes. It's about the players and always will be to me. The examples of this is played out every year. Of course some coaches are better than others but none of them win without the players.

Mayo may or may not be HC material, but judging him so early after he inherited such a crap roster would be unfair. If they don't give him time to learn with more top players then they'll just keep repeating the 3-13 and 4-13 seasons they've had.

I almost want to see Mayo replaced by Mike Vrable just to see the fans try to spin things here when Vrable leads this **** roster to another **** season, which is exactly what would happen.

It won't matter who you bring in if you don't upgrade the roster. It's really that simple. Better players = better record.

Players matter, good coaching is indispensable. More than any other pro sport, NFL head coaches are essential to team success because of the game's inherent complexity and sheer number of personnel they manage. From players to coaches and support staff directly under a head coach's authority, that approaches 100 people who ALL must be on the same page.

If you doubt whether the likes of an experienced veteran coach like Vrabel would be an instant improvement over Mayo's bumbling shyt show, you need remedial help. I've already noted the Jete being a prime example of how bad coaching can detour a playoff-caliber roster.

HC matters in the NFL, but it's a bit overrated. Reid was a good HC, he never won **** until he got Mahomes and he had some LOADED rosters throughout his career. Bill Belichick's entire career can be summed up by "the years he had Tom Brady, and the years he didn't". He got fired specifically because his coaching could not overcome the talent. Bruce Arians won a SB because Tom Brady and a bunch of talented players showed up on his team for a year. Tony Dungy was a defensive HC whose entire HOF career was because Peyton Manning ran a worldclass offense in Indy while he was there. Gary Kubiak was a largely middle of the road HC who had a .522 winning percentage and only made the playoffs 3 times in his career that won a Super Bowl because he came to Denver and had a generational defense for one year.

It matters, but it matters so much less than it's sold on as here. Talent is always king.

You'll never see a HOF coach take even a mediocre team to a Super Bowl win. Much less a bad team to a Super Bowl. We've seen mediocre and bad coaches get dragged to Super Bowls by insanely talented teams. We've seen HOF legendary coaches get fired because they couldn't overcome a lack of talent on the team.

Mayo sucks and is nothing special, but I'll tell you right now if he was coaching the Lions they'd still be in the playoff hunt because the players wouldn't let his mistakes ruin it for them. He might be perceived as the weak link that prevents them from going all the way, but they would still be a good team. And Dan Campbell ain't sniffing **** with this team. If you think he's going to downgrade from St, Brown, La Porta, and the best ranked offensive line in football to this and still look like even remotely the same guy, you are crazy. Campbell was 3-13 his first year himself and that was mostly talent.

I'll agree that coaches aren't nearly as irrelevant as they are in the NBA, but the NFL is still far and away a talent first league.

We'll just have to agree to disagree here. All the talent in the world amounts to zilch if not properly prepared and put in position to win. If "talent is king," the New Jersey Jete -- who indisputably possess a playoff-caliber roster -- would at least have a wildcard spot locked up.

BTW, Detroit might have won yesterday had Campbell not chanced that onside kick.

The Jets have roster issues. Rodgers legitimately is in decline and has mobility issues. Breece has been a huge disappointment this year. Williams was not as advertised, they are filled with washed guys from GB. They are a team that was overrated and they hoped Rodgers would unlock a bunch of players and he didn’t.

The most talented roster without injuries is the Lions. The Lions current coach had a 3 win season his first year largely because of a lack of talent.

Coaching is not irrelevant, but a great coach won’t be competitive with a bad team and a bad coach will be with a great team.

Yeah. Peyton Manning and his team took Jim Caldwell to a Super Bowl. Caldwell was not a good head coach. I'm sure there are more examples of that.

You're rationalizing. You honestly believe the Jete wouldn't now be playoff-bound with better coaching out of the gate?

And Campbell blundered his way into a gem of an offensive coordinator, whose COACHING has spelled a world of difference for that team. And as previously noted, a bonehead COACHING move yesterday all but ensured Detroit's loss to a less-TALENTED Packers team.
