Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

The Jets would fire him at the end of the year. The Pats won't.
Quite the opposite in fact! The Jets problem is they kept their awful coaches way too long.

They haven’t had a one year HC for 24 years.

49ers had back to back one year coaches in 2015-2016. 49ers are fine. If like us they based their decision on hope instead of facts they wouldn’t have been to 2 SB in the last 5 years.

fire Robyn Glazer,
Why? Did she dump you in high school or something?

I don't see why a team lawyer gets so much hate around here. I bet fans of other teams don't know the name of the team lawyer who handles contracts and the like let along ***** about her being employed by the team.

The Kraft's lawyer with an ethical duty to snitch and keep quiet - Glazer is the Kraft's attorney, more than an employee. It is called attorney-client privilege. You NEVER let somone else's lawyer work along side you. Kind of obvious.

Every good investor knows there's nothing dumber than putting good money after bad. The smart teams quickly realize their mistakes and move on. Letting Mayo coach next year just pushes his inevitable firing & the start of the rebuild, back by a year.

God forbid, the Jets hire Vrabel & McDaniels this offseason & set the Pats back for the next decade.
RK already made this mistake with Belichick, no?

While rare, this is a good example. Kyle Shanahan had been a hot HC candidate for a while and the 49ers had an opportunity to land him.

If the Pats have a chance at Ben Johnson, they better kick Mayo, Wolfe and Groh's asses out the door.

The Pats don't have a chance at Ben Johnson. He has his pick of the litter this off season and there's no chance in hell he's coming to one of the worst offenses in the league. He'll go to a place with a QB and some decent weapons so he can show off right away.

Plus he would never work alongside a weird arrangement where Glazer is his advisor. No real football guy is going to agree to the present Patriots management structure.

Good catch. Marty looks like the best of the bunch at the time of firing. Opinions on Marty are varied, but he's mostly seen as decent/ok and not a guy who could lead you to playoff success.

Carrol did become a damn fine HC afterwards but it was way later in his career. He was out of his depth and correctly fired as one-and-done in '94.

The dominant trend among all the rest of the one-and-done coaches is that it was the right call. Firing your terrible hire after one year doesn't make you the jets. Failing to recognize it quickly and not moving on from your mistake is what makes you the Jets.
I think that Marty was a bit more than okay. His career record was 200-126-1, a .613 winning percentage. With a 17-game schedule, that translates to 10 or 11 wins per season. Postseason was his achilles heel with only a 5-13 record. He did make the playoffs thirteen times in twenty-one seasons, and had only two losing seasons. He is currently one of the coaching candidates for the NFL Hall of Fame. I don't think we will ever see Mayo reach that level of success.

Just get this guy already.

The Pats were a crappy franchise for a long time before an unprecedented run of success. They're weren't too many lows for this franchise in a generation. People just need to get used to getting used to lean years.
I think having hit on Maye has changed people's perspective on how patient they're willing to be with a HC doing on-the-job training. It's one thing to see a dumpster fire with nothing of value in it. It's a whole 'nother thing when you know the winning Powerball ticket is in there.

The Jets wouldn't. They routinely keep mistakes around multiple years. See Adam Gase for the prime example. And you need to go back 24 years for the last time they fired a guy after one season.
The Jets sticking to mistakes like Kotite and Gase and Toilet Bowles is factual.

Needing to go back 24 years to find the last time they were one and done with a HC is also factual.

I'm at a loss at what it is you disagree with.

Hitting on Maye, missing on the other 7 draft picks, and winning three games makes me care more about getting a new GM and coaching staff. Having a winning Powerball ticket means we have to elevate our game, IMO, which includes having professional management.

My prediction. Mayo gets next year, he probably fails, and they move on but hopefully have a somewhat more attractive roster and also displayed that they will give the next coach a chance. Wolf very likely goes with him and a new coach will be able to walk in with his own GM

Because everthing they have just built in the front office and coaching staff needs to be burned to the ground.

Because some folks didn't agree with my initial assessment above. Here are the points allowed by drives where the biggest adjustments should be made.

The first few drives of the game: When you see how what they are trying to do on offense.

Halftime: You now have an entire half of play and 12 minutes to make adjustments.

In fact, the stats indicate that the other teams make better adjustments to how NE is game planning for them early in the game.

Nearly 70%, 69.2% of the time the other team comes away with points on the first drive of the 2nd half.

Three times...I'll repeat three times this season they stopped the opposing team from scoring points on their first possession of the 2nd half. Three! One against a fellow rookie HC and another that got fired last Friday. For not having the wherewithal to instruct your QB to spike the ball or call a timeout trailing, in a three-point game with 32 seconds left on the clock....in field goal range....after....completing a pass for a 1st down.

It's not coaching? ********

And once again they give up points on the first drive of the 2nd half. I would be shocked if any other team is worse then them giving up points to open the 2nd half.
