Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Following this logic further -

Patricia was mocked in 2022 because the players would ask him questions about "what to do if X happens", etc... and Patricia would not know, and said he would have to get back to them. People pointed and laughed.

Does anyone think that that's not happening with Mayo? I am pretty certain that Mayo is getting lots of questions from his players that he doesn't know the answer to. Hell, he does it in press conferences. Gets confused, answers with something that doesn't make sense, says some word salad, has to come back the next day and backtrack/correct what he said before. Do we think it's any different in the locker room? If anything it might be worse.

At least Patricia said he didn't know. I'd be willing to bet Mayo pretends he knows and gives the players an answer, then comes back the next day to "correct" his previous answer, just like in the media. Then tells the media that the players "didn't execute".

And before anyone gets mad - I'm not trying to glorify Patricia, because that was stupid as hell too. This is just the same thing but even worse.
Mayo made mistakes and deserves criticism but some of you guys are now making things up to make him look worse, you're just speculating, you have no idea. Let's criticize him when he deserves it but be fair about it too. He's here next year so better get used to that idea.

Look at the bright side, the worst damage that Kraft's trophy DEI Head Coach can do is lose football games compared to what he could screw up in other more critical occupations. In the interest of public safety maybe he should keep the job.

There’s a difference between not having the players to win as opposed to coaching being the reason for 70 percent of the losses.
The fact he keeps saying he is learning on the job really upsets me. You don’t tab a HC who is learning how to be a coach,
Being a head coach used to mean something.
As bad as the roster is there are too many mental mistakes to say that they are playing up to their potential which is the ultimate measuring stick for a coach. Mayo needs to get his act straight quickly to have any hope for next year.

I’m pretty dismayed by the coaching of Mayo thus far. It is a tough situation for him and he could improve but this first season has been a rocky one.

It’s not just the personnel because we’ve been in position to win three or four games. And the common theme is poor coaching decisions along the way. With competent decision making we should have at least two more wins.

I am way more concerned about the defense than the offense and that’s where Mayo should thrive. That defense without Judon and Gonzo last year still played hard and performed well. They look like crap this season. On the coach.

That is an absolute vital piece. You need to have a feel for the game and be able to call defenses accordingly. Some guys get the x's and o's but just suck at the play calling piece. Its clear Mayo has zero experience in calling the defense and convington is not the answer either. You are defending the indefensible.

The coaching on this team is terrible. Regardless of the roster, the coaches are lost and have no answers. The team continues to make mental mistakes. They make awful adjustments. Just look at the drives coming out of the half. This coaching staff is outright garbage. Kraft needs to swallow his pride and clean house, which he should of done last year. Hire an experienced coach, maybe one that won't have the opportunity to be here for 20 years due to age. But bring in a guy who can get guys to play the right way. Tough, hardnosed and mentally disciplined. Not a bunch of whineasses making excuses for why they gave up a 19 play drive to win the game...19 ****ing plays to Richardson, basically a High School QB!. Everyone should of been fired this morning!

Because some folks didn't agree with my initial assessment above. Here are the points allowed by drives where the biggest adjustments should be made.

The first few drives of the game: When you see how what they are trying to do on offense.

Halftime: You now have an entire half of play and 12 minutes to make adjustments.

In fact, the stats indicate that the other teams make better adjustments to how NE is game planning for them early in the game.

Nearly 70%, 69.2% of the time the other team comes away with points on the first drive of the 2nd half.

Three times...I'll repeat three times this season they stopped the opposing team from scoring points on their first possession of the 2nd half. Three! One against a fellow rookie HC and another that got fired last Friday. For not having the wherewithal to instruct your QB to spike the ball or call a timeout trailing, in a three-point game with 32 seconds left on the clock....in field goal range....after....completing a pass for a 1st down.

I firmly believe there will be a coaching adjustment on the defense. The defense is in Mayo's wheel house, the continued continuity was there with the coaches Brian, pelligrino, covington. Bringing in a Steve wilks would be great for Mayo and the defense.

Only if Wilkes is allowed to choose his own staff.

BB's biggest battle was with the constant drain of staff talent. I think the incessant battle to replenish his support system of coaches and staff is what finally exhausted him. The well ran dry and the dregs he was left with couldn't keep him from running into the ditch.

Bill also refused to look for outside help until he hired Ron Wolf's boy,

You disagree that Mayo is likely unprepared? He’s not even prepared for media interviews after three quarters of a season

He should rightly be fired for not challenging that 3rd down trap yesterday. Even if it got overruled (it wouldn't have been).

That gets overturned, the Colts *punt* on 4th and 12 with 4 minutes to go, and your defense isn't on the field for 19 plays to lose the game, and you don't get the chance to blow a timeout for no reason when the Colts get inside the 5.

That's as bad as what Eberflus just got fired for. This is the third game that Mayo has lost them this year, due to complete and utter incompetent game management.

Bingo.

If this team - even with all of its personnel issues - had merely league-average, replacement-level NFL coaching, it could Very Easily be 6-7 right now, if not 7-6.

Mayo's got rope. I feel like internally there needs to be a change on the defensive coaching it's gotten worse as the season went out. Pelligrino, Brian, covington, Hightower, mayo.. all aged and coached under Bill. The defense looking this putrid is inexplicable.

At this point it it what it is, we know Mayo makes alot of gaffes, questionable coaching decisions.. that's what you get in a coach who's never done it at this level. It's just inexperience.. it's still mindblowing to me he still hasn't lost the locker room. He's going to be here next season so let's see if he becomes a better coach next season if not then he'll be gone!

Show me where Harbaugh, Mcvay, even Mike McDaniel, Demco
Ryan’s did their first seasons.

Bill, McDermott, Reid, Jimmy Johnson, for example all did. How many superbowls do mcvay,Harbaugh, ,McDaniels, Ryan's have compared to the guys I just mentioned?

Rk wanted to fire bill into his second season. We just need to understand that Mayo's going to be here next season if it continues on like it is then he'll be gone and we are back looking for a coach again.

Feels like one could just as easily look at this chart and spin it positively for the coaching. Early on in the week you can gameplan more in depth and cover for weaknesses but on gameday, once you show your cards, you only have so many levers to pull beyond that initial plan if the talent simply isn't there. And you'd be pretty hard pressed to find too many NFL personnel guys who don't rate us at or near the bottom in talent in the whole NFL.

You could look at that chart and say that their gameplans during the week are making the defense more competitive but then once teams adjust to that gameplan the talent isn't there for them to go to something else because they're too lacking in talent across too many areas. They don't have any safeties that can play the deep part of the field. Their outside pass rush is pretty bad besides White who cancels himself out being such a liability containing mobile QBs. With Barmore having blood clots they have no real inside pass rush. They don't have a good outside coverage guy across from Gonzo. They have a bad group of LBs especially with Bentley out. How many adjustments can you really expect Mayo and the staff to make? If they're coming up with decent enough gameplans to stop the bleeding early with their initial gameplan I'd say they're doing a decent job with what they have to work with.

He lost the locker room a long time ago, but not in a “revolt” type of way, he just lost their effort and will to care that much

Possibly, here's here for now. If it continues on this way then he'll be out! I still believe he has the players ear. I began to get down on Mayo becuase the defense looks like ass.
