Who Do You Trust To Make The Staff Changes?

Daniels was my top choice too, everything about his game was polished. But Williams was gone, Daniels was gone, so Pats did not have a choice, no big whoop. Trading down, nah Wolf would not have th b**ls to do that. I am sure there were some on this board that wanted to trade down (there a lot of people on this board !!). But to say over half of this board wanted to trade down thats seems disingenuous.

Go read the threads in he draft forum

Mayfield signed long before the draft.

Belichick never traded down when he had a top pick

And Belichick would have gone after him, or another veteran QB, the one thing that’s certain is that he didn’t like Maye.

Jerod Mayo
You don't see the difference?

He passed on Vern Gholston, Sedrick Ellis and Derrick Harvey that year.

If he needed a QB, he would've taken Matt Ryan at 3 if they had that pick.

A QB is a different story than a DT for a LB.

Again, Belichick had criticisms of all 3 QBs at the top. You can make the case he would not have taken any of the QBs, but I've heard him gush about the top 3 QBs as well (not so much Caleb).

There's no evidence of this.

And you say it with such certitude. This is preposterous

Go look on You Tube, Macafees draft show.
I did. He didn't say what you said.

I even linked to that show above.

The one thing that's crazy in all this is that Belichick knows exactly what to look for in QBs. This has always been his biggest strength as a coach. To figure out where the QBs deficiencies are and attack them, while guarding against hat the QB does well. This is why his defenses have always been more effective against young QBs than anyone else's, and at the same time he gave the pattern and blueprint for defanging the best QBs, like Peyton Manning. We've seen the effect for years when QBs go into a slump after playing the Patriots as other teams copied Belichick's gameplan.

Disagree on part one, completely agree on part 2.

The MaCafee tape is complete evidence. Anyone who comes away from that thinking Belichick would have drafted Maye is hopelessly lost.

I thought it was a great move, but it also disproves your claim that Belichick did t trade down from high picks.

Belichick didn’t like Maye as a prospect, that’s obvious, and if you go read the articles about it they all agree that Belichick was dissing Maye. Even the AI take on it made that call. The only people saying otherwise are those who think Belichick can do absolutely no wrong. It’s not good enough for them that he’s the GOAT, he has to be perfect as well.

And Belichick loves the Jets, and Asante Samuel wanted to play for Belichick forever, and the Patriots actually won the two super bowls against the Giants…………….

MY PERSONAL CHOICE is
that Wolf should be in charge for 2-3 years and be given a chance to build a team around Maye and make any coaching/coordinator changes that he deems appropriate, understanding that he might not be given the power to fire Mayo (but would be allowed to make Mayo a figurehead).
I agree that Wolf should be given 2-3 years but I won’t complain much if Mayo is replaced by Vrabel and he calls the defensive plays.

Unreal Ivan.

You went ballistic after I asked you where you heard that.

I didn't hear him say anything like that, nor see it.

I just asked where you saw that.

I seriously think you have more of a Belichick hangup than I do.

I watched McAfee and Belichick talking about Maye. Belichick didn't say anything that would make me think he wouldn't take Maye. He actually said he's got great tools, big kid, tough, very mobile with a big arm, has all the tools. He then said he's not reading defenses well and he's coming off WRs way too quick, and that he would need some development.

You interpret this as him being overly negative about the kid. He had much bigger detractions against Caleb Williams. In fact, he was more complimentary of Daniels, but only because he sees Daniels as having a lot of experience and being adequately prepared.

This is a coach who knows more about the QB position than any other coach in football.

You can't argue with Belichick haters.

Tough crowd, here we are hating on Bill for his criticism of Drake Maye. Yep that same Bill Belichick that drafted the greatest NFL QB to ever play the game. Sure it was in the 6th round and he himself said if they thought that highly of him they would have picked him in the first round. So was it all just luck or was he just a little smarter that the other 31 teams that passed on Tom round after round.

I agree Bill did express significant concerns about Maye. lousy footwork, inconsistent, reading defenses. Bill was probably more vocal about these than others, but that was consistently the narrative reagrding Maye's negatives. I mean there was discussion of positives and negatives with all 3 QBs. Caleb is Mahomes like, but a diva, Daniels was most polished but too small to play that style. Maye has the most upside with his size and cannon of an arm, but also lousy footwork, most raw of the three.

Maye suprised everyone around the league significantly improved on his footwork, and reads week after week. I mean he was supposed to be the most raw of the three !! You just never know what you got till they start playing on Sundays.

And regarding Bill trading down and picking on the other QBs perhaps. As much I am glad we have Drake Maye. Bo Nix is right behind Daniels in rookie stats both are 1 and 2 for rookie qb of the year. JJ. McCarthy's has looked the part up until his injury. Michael Penix we will see with his first start this week. I think at this time all those teams are happy with their picks.

What Bill said has been completely taken out of context by posters. Bill was explaining the flaws of these QB’s and what they need to work on, not that he didn’t like them or wouldn't have drafted them. He then had broken down good and bad plays from Maye and what he needs to work on. Have we already forgotten Bill would focus his meetings with players on negative tape rather than positive tape?
