Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Like a broken record...........

There's is something with us and being the 32nd Team and I'm not talking about after winning the SB. We are now synonymous with that number 32nd in everything bad.

I don’t like the idea of changing coaches a year into their tenure, but I do concede that there are signs that Mayo isn’t doing a good job. The first is the failure to take responsibility for their play, and trying to deflect it onto other. The second is the penalties. Overall I think there are people here who have made strong arguments that the coaching staff isn’t doing a good job, and I think Upstatets post about Jones and Duggar is a good example of that. The drop off in the play of the defense, especially since Maye took over at QB and the offense is doing better, is a good example of this. And the penalties should have been cleaned up by now, and instead are derailing them every week. So I won’t be arguing against letting them go at the end of the season. Wolf is another story altogether, and if they let him go I’m going to be seriously pissed off, and I’m going to lose faith completely in the ability of the Kraft’s to hire a management team that can turn them into a contender. Wolf inherited Belichick’s team, and Kraft’s coach, neither of which were any good, and expecting any GM to turn that around in 6 months is idiotic.
There are lots of reasons to think the Patriots will make a big jump in talent in 2025-26 based on where they will draft (four in the top 80 selections as of this writing), the mountain of cash they have to spend ($139M according to Spotrac), and a full year of experience by the new GM, front office, and coaching staff.

In an odd sort of way, the Miami game was useful to sear into the collective brain of the organization just how important it is to address the offensive line. Right now, they should be looking to replace the OL coach. Every year for 20+ years, Dante Scarnecchia delivered an improving OL that knew how to approach pre-snap errors. Some of those lines were stone walls, others were patchwork groups due to injuries. Scarnecchia never lowered his standards. Just pay the best OL Coach in the business and add three new players.

Let's say David Andrews, Mike Onwenu and Cole Strange come back next season. They have the two rookies from this year coming back. That leaves them with the need for two or three players who are upgrades - a rookie center and two tackles would be necessary, preferably a veteran LT and first or second round rookie. If they do that, the offense improves.

On defense, add a top-flight edge rusher and see what Bentley can do. From a talent perspective, there's plenty of defensive talent. Getting Peppers back this week to work with Dugger in the defensive backfield will improve things.

If they address the OL and add an edge rusher that commands attention, they'll spend a bunch of money but still have picks and money left to strengthen other areas - WR, RB, DB. Let's say two of four new guys in the trenches are rookies and they spend $30 million combined on two veterans. They'll still have lots of cash to pay a veteran receiver. I hate the diva WR who sucks all the oxygen out of the room, but maybe they have to do that this year.

Staffwise, I'd keep Mayo and his coordinators. Continuity is important right now and there's no reason Mayo won't get better. The weakest link on the coaching staff is the OL Coach who is not effective.

Even though we don't agree 100%, I'll go with this.

I don't like making the quick change either, but if we can upgrade to something like a Vrabel/Daboll team, I don't see how that would be a huge step forward.
Bravely/Daboll Team wouldn't be huge step forward?? You lost me.

The fan contest winner from a Sam Adams prize would be an upgrade.
**** I bet I could use madden playbooks and improve the D.

@Ian we are getting a lot of double post Brother.

Got a few messages this morning about a glitch from overnight. Should hopefully be resolved.
Thanks Mr Incredible and keep up the good work.

I really hope you're wrong. The NFL product in general is become less watchable by the year and the Pats are becoming unwatchable with Mayo.
I am really getting disinterested in the 2025 Pats if Mayo, and most of the other coaching and front office staff are not replaced.

Others can support Kraft if they choose.

The media is getting more loud than in 2023. If they lose out, Bob won’t like the bad press and kick Mayo’s ass out.

If he feels like that then why is he even on the sidelines. Give the headset to someone else and watch the game at home
It's a deeply stupid answer. I didn't mind these interview gaffes initially, but he has no sense of reading the room. He's making himself a target with these answers when the team isn't winning. Maybe he's trying to replicate winning after calling the team soft or something. But he just doesn't have the rope on a 3-9 team.
I knew there would be bumps in the road this year, as I am sure most of did, but what has irked me is Mayo constantly putting his foot in his mouth. I don't know if it is Mayo trying to be the anti-Bill and be forthcoming with the media and letting the players bike through the locker room but he just continues to say stupid things and his soundbites generate a media frenzy that adds to an already bad season.

I think he got lucky that they won the week after Mayo called them soft because then he can pretend like it was some master motivation tactic. To steal a phrase from The Wire, I think Mayo rain made them. "A guy says if you pay him, he can make it rain. You pay him. If and when it rains, he takes the credit. If and when it doesn't, he comes up with reasons for you to pay more."

Between letting the receiver room fire off at the mouth all year, seeming to have no answer on defense or any ability to adjust on the fly, and the stupid soundbites that continually sound as if he is shifting blame, Mayo is just compounding a bad situation.

I think with the media onslaught from Bill and another failed HOF bid he can't weather the PR storm of canning Bill's successor after a year. Kraft has stated over and over how he hand picked Mayo and he views him as a leader and then the leaks that this plan was already in place when Bill was still here there is no way he fires Mayo with how image conscious he has become.

Unless he gets up and says something like I don’t cut unless I measure 10 times and I measured. However I didn’t get where I’m at by sticking with something that I know is wrong and I am always the first to acknowledge and admit when I make a mistake.
Thats why I have commissioned Scott Pioli to head up the search for the best coach for the Patriots and I am stepping out of it and putting it in Scott’s capable hands.
