I don't normally care about free agency possibilities till free agency time but an article on this guy grabbed my attention.

Seems like he made a business decision and sat out for injury and his replacement took his job. On last year of his rookie deal and looks like he might be available. He was a 1st rounder too.

You don't normally see LT free agents so this gives me pause especially with his business decision comments. But would be great to get a very good LT or RT in free agency.

Thoughts?

Has there been one Alabama OL from the Saban era that has been even very good much less great in the NFL? On the flip side, at least he’s well known to Scott Peters.

There are fewer great or even very good OTs than QBs in the NFL. I’m not knowledgeable enough to understand why, but I do think that’s why you rarely see a good one hit FA and why year in, year out, you’ll see 4 - 6 go in the 1st round, and maybe 1 or 2 wind up as good OTs in the NFL.

I think there could be better options . keep an eye on alaric jackson and dan moore if they do hit fa. Solid young options, but those types rarely will hit fa. If they don’t cam robinson is a decent option, slightly older at 30 y/o. Hes a pretty solid LT though who we could sign for 2-3 years and allow us to focus on a stud wr with the first pick if one is available.

If wallace or jacobs dont show you enough at rt, you can trade for the browns other tackle conklin on a short term pact as well. Then the line is pretty set if strange and andrews come back.

That is true and a great point. I hope they draft King Tet in the 1st, so I would like them to go any route possible to address the OL aside from using the the 1st round pick.

Yes. He's good. When healthy.

I brought him up over a month or so before the trade deadline as someone who the Pats should target in trade talks this year... But that discussion was overlooked in favor of the shiny wrs we were never going to pursue.

We should be going balls deep on pursuing this guy. Now is the time to step up and start the tampering process. we wait til the season is over, we're already too late.

Pats have enough cap space to take several shots even if most of them miss.

Sign the beast!

To the OP

He’s Jonah Williams. Inconsistent play and a handful of injuries, but draft/college pedigree at a position of scarcity. He’s pretty obviously going to get overpaid by a team that’s just hoping to get “not bad” play out of him, and I’m guessing it’s unlikely that will be the Pats unless AVP and Peters are pounding the table for him.

Strange is still an unknown to me. As far as Andrews is concerned, if he does play next season, we MUST get a young Center next off season. He could be the future after Andrews retires and/or insurance if Andrews gets injured or does retire. I hope Wallace can be a solid RT. Locking down the right side of the OL would help things regarding the OL in specific and rebuild in general.

Alaric Jackson on Ronnie Stanley would be huge finds at LT that would allow them to go after a LG or RT in the draft in addition to WR. Wills is too inconsistent. Pay up for Jackson, we have the space.

They should sign veterans at almost every position. They can't force themselves to pick by position like it seems they did this past year where it felt like they zeroed in on WR in round 2 and OT in round 3 to check those boxes. Especially once you get past the top of the draft you want to be able to pivot to another position besides your biggest need if the talent on the board dictates it.

So not even about Willis specifically, but they absolutely should be adding veteran OL help that can alleviate the absolute desperation of having to take guys on the OL high in the draft no matter where they rank on the board.

Even though Lowe has gotten better and by better not meaning good. I still believe we should at least be looking to upgrade LT by any means neccessary. I'd say yeah take a look at him while also drafting a guy thst identifies as a starting caliber LT.

Have no fear, Wolf will leave no stone unturned in finding us our next Okorafor. Can’t wait! Just have to show patience!
Wouldn't suprise me at the least if he were to offer Lowe an extension with the fluff he's our starting LT..

I don't watch much of the browns but after talking to a buddy, he said ****ing take him. I took that to mean that he is not good.
Not really talking about this guy specifically, but I think fans of teams tend to say “**** that guy“ to anyone who just decides to sit out. So probably doesn’t really say anything one way or the other about how he might play here

In the Cincy game alone, he had 2 sacks allowed. 2 hits to QB, 1 Hurry and 5 pressures. He's worse than Lowe.

My bigger question is how did Wills look last year when our current OL coach had him? If he looked good, well, 1+1 usually equals 2.

Right, c of the future is definitely a need soon. I think for now given the laundry list of upgrades needed we need to hope for the best with strange and andrews in 25. Then you can always explore trades closer to week 1 if needed.

Love to see one of these LT’s available for us ( or lowe shows enough down the stretch). Im just not sold on willis being any better than lowe even. We also should sign an outside cb and at least depth at both dl/edge. Wr too. Fingers crossed that we get an answer at rt this year, or layden gets it together allowing onwenu at rt. But the space is there to grab a stopgap solution there too while you look to make a splash at wr. I think getting drake real talent at wideout will help him more than spending the top pick on OL so hopefully the fa route can work out.
