Jaguar Mac Jones is about to embarrass the genius BB and his all star coaching staff [mod edit: he didn’t]

It was a fine choice when it was made. Silly for Billy-ites to die on that hill.

Hindsight is obviously 20/20. The right move in hindsight was trading multiple picks to move up for Parsons.

I don’t hate anyone. Bill also is no longer a Patriot so I have no rooting interest either way. Who really cares what other posters think of yourhoodied hero.
First off "That's my quarterback"

Second it's not about what you think it's about how often you bring it up and how terrible the take usually is. One does not just stand by and watch such gross neglect.

What was really disappointing to me is that it seemed like he was doing all the right things in the 2021 offseason prior to camp. He worked out and got rid of his baby fat and added muscle. He worked with Tom House on his mechanics to build his arm strength. Going into 2022 I was really optimistic that the end of 2021 was an aberration and he’d prove to be a competent NFL QB and starter for us, even if never elite.

But ultimately it’s tough to overcome the mental makeup. He panicked under pressure his rookie season and he continued that way afterwards. When things went poorly, he got down on himself and took it all in, rather than either letting it bounce off him, or redirecting outwardly. Didn’t exhibit the leadership qualities that make teammates want to fight for you; rather he wanted to be one of the guys. And then didn’t react well to the cluster that was Matty P, Joe Judge, and the new system. All of those things don’t necessarily make him a bad person, of course, but they are bad traits in a QB.

And funny enough, the arm doesn’t really look any stronger. Wonder if he still goes to House or if that was just a one-off and he forgot / doesn’t apply his lessons?
Nice post. While the end result is the same, the way Mac flamed out and Zack Wilson flamed out are night and day. To his credit Mac put in the effort, he doesn't have what it takes to be a starting NFL QB. As a fan, that is all you can ask for. Too bad it didn't work out.

Mac had the opportunity to make it work, despite the changes in OC. In the end Mac was another example of how hard it is to find a good NFL QB. He started out ok until defenses learned to make him throw to the sidelines or over the top. When MP asked him to make NFL QB throws, things went totally off the rails fueled by Mac's inability to handle pressure. Mac was already done by the time BOB got involved. Hindsight is 20/20, drafting him was the right move at the time.

I agree. You have to take your shots at QB, and many of those shots are going to miss the mark. And more than any other position quarterbacks suffer from the lack of a minor league for pro football. The jump from college to playing against the best of the best college defenders every week is just too big for most to make it, so they go down as busts on a more than regular basis. IMO if you want to build a long term contender then you have to have a GM with a great eye for talent, and an organization that is willing to be patient and disciplined, and willing to commit to developing those players. I won’t bother suggesting that a fan base be patient as well, because even though smart football fans should be patient it just isn’t going to happen.

The Patriots need to commit to developing this draft class, and only get rid of those who don’t show the talent and desire necessary to turn into really good pro’s. They should tune out the fan base, and stick with a step by step process that takes this team from really bad, to fairly good, to contending for a playoff spot, then contending for championships every season. Imo they can make the jump to fairly good and contending for a playoff spot over the next year or so, and then from playoff team to championship contender over the two years following that, but to do it they have to have a strong plan and stick to it, and not just try to make the fans happy overnight. You do that by drafting well and developing the young talent, and supplementing that with intelligent decisions in free agency, and not just throwing money at jag players in the hopes of getting a couple more wins and a happy fan base. Any money you waste on jags is money you don’t have to get the depth and difference makers you don’t find in the draft.

We've all been wrong about stuff and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why it's fun to talk about it and see how things turn out. But there's posters that take it too personal when they see an opinion they don't like.

Without Bill, the Dynasty never exists. He was pretty lights out until 2005 which started the struggles. 2007 was the only year from 2005-2009 where he knocked it out of the park to put the team together. Too many people sleep on how important the 2010 draft was getting Gronk and Hernandez which re-ignited their eventual Super Bowl runs. The 2012 draft getting Jones and HT and trading for Aqib Talib who looked like a bust in Tampa, helped turned the tide back to being a solid defensive team as well. Had those two drafts been duds, Tom leaves.

Bill gave us a vacation for 20 years and routine playoff games every season. 2019 is when the struggles caught up to Bill and every year after Tom left. We can't expect for the Pats to just be instant Super Bowl contenders after Tom and the other players moved on. People can't sustain that success forever.
I'd like to see Bill get another job, though I don't think he will. That way his fans will have someplace else to go.

Belichick is just a coach, and before Brady arrived he had losing seasons 4 out of 6 seasons. Then he started 5-11 with the Pats and 0-2 the next year until Drew went down. After that he had winning seasons for every single season that Brady was on the team. Then he went back to losing 4 out of 5 as soon as Brady was gone. None of that is a coincidence.

2 wrongs don't make a right.

And just crapping in Bill for the sake of it just makes you a jerk. Am I right @sb1 ?

I think this goes both ways. There are Belichick haters here who refuse to give him credit for anything, including the selection and development of the GOAT, and that’s ridiculous, he deserves full credit for that, and the Championships that went with it. There are also Belichick sycophants here who refuse to believe that he ever made a mistake, and religiously try to pin his bad decisions on his assistants, and outright make **** up to try and defend those decisions. Both are full of ****.

This message board would seem like the right place for a Belichick sycophant to hang out.

I mean is it really that unreasonable to expect some Patriots fans on a Patriots board to think their 6 time SB champion HC is almost flawless?

What's ridiculous is fellow Patriots fans making it their mission to end all Belichick sycophants. It does no harm to let the Belichick sycophant live in peace.

On the flip side I think it does huge harm to the man, this fan base's image as whole, and to this message board if there aren't people willing to defend his honor and accomplishments.

Those that can't get over Brady leaving have their right. And even the people that want to hate him because he has 3 losing seasons out of his last 5 have the right. But they should recognize that their behavior compared to the Bill defender is vastly different. Especially in this setting.

I doubt there are any Belichick haters here now. There's one poster I can think of who hated on Bill but he isn't a member here anymore.

There's definitely a vocal group here that seem to be Bill fans more than they are Pats fans. They take any criticism of Bill personally which is weird. All of them also despise Mac Jones with a passion which is hilarious. It will be interesting to see if they stick around if Bill does find a new coaching job.

There's a larger group which I would include myself that believe that Tom Brady ought to get a little more credit than BB for the dynasty simply for being the GOAT on the field at the most difficult position in sports and I have no doubt BB would agree. As for BB he is without a doubt an all time great arguably GOAT HC but over the last couple of seasons it became clear his time has passed and the team needed to move on. And funny thing is, I bet Bill himself knew it.

That ain't "hating".

Your points are well taken. I especially like that you do not include overextending on the cap as part of the plan when contending for a championship. I would prefer following the model where the team spends to the cap and competes every year rather than having boom and bust cycles.

While I understand that things take time, I am uneasy about putting a timeline on the rebuild. If the rebuild window is not tight, the initial set of players get injured or age out before the plan comes to fruition. Wolf needs to understand that the time to minimize investment is passed. Time to establish the yearly process to expend as many resources as he can without mortgaging the future to make the team as good as it can be for the upcoming season. All the talk about building for the future by Mayo and Wolf needs to stop after this season. The team needs to set higher expectations with the players.

What is unreasonable is the Belichick sycophants trying to put the blame on Wolf for decisions Belichick made. I give Belichick tons of credit, but if you criticize any decision he made you get called a hater for it, and that’s ********. Give credit where it’s due, and the same with blame, regardless of who they are.

I think Mac Jones did embarrass Bill Belichick.... I mean, Belichick picked him in the 1st round. If that isn't something to be embarrassed about, nothing is.

Don't know if Maye himself could've threaded that needle; the target was too well-covered.
We do know he has a problem with locking in on a receiver
If you watch the replay he had 2 targets wide open 3 yards over the LOS
It was 2nd down take the possible 1st down or 3rd and short
Instead he locks in and throws a duck
The pass should have never been thrown
Mostly because of his weak arm a CB gambles with jumping those routes on Mac. Not being in fear of the go route
If the ball had some zip and was thrown tall. Worst case incompletion
Instead he floats it numbers high

How you been Cap
