Went through some numbers earlier and figured I'd post them in here:

Looking at the last 9 weeks, the Patriots offense has been notably better in the last four weeks compared to the first five games of 2024 in terms of scoring:

First Five Games: 62 (31st in the NFL over that span)
Last Four Games: 79 (19th in the NFL over that span)

One big area has been late in games. They've scored 52 second-half points in the last four weeks, compared to just 26 over the first five games.

The fourth quarter has seen a big jump. The Patriots scored just 13 fourth QTR points in the first five weeks.
They've scored 31 in the 4th QTR in the last four games.

A couple of other notes:

This one is really confusing:

No idea where he went off the rails. Chad Graff put out a good article today with a good point when it comes to wideouts who got off to a rough start and then came around, albeit, Polk is far behind his example:

Of course, not all good wide receivers had great production early on. When Wolf was the Green Bay Packers’ director of pro personnel, the team picked Davante Adams in the second round (No. 53 overall in 2014). Adams is the oft-cited example of a highly drafted wide receiver needing a few years to develop before his production takes off. But even his “disappointing” rookie season far outpaced what Polk has done. Through Adams’ first eight games as a rookie, he had 24 catches for 263 yards, more than three times Polk’s yardage total so far.

And then this last bit:

He's got a tough road ahead of him to reach that total.

One other interesting note:

Through nine games last season, this was where Jones & Zappe were:

Here's where Brissett and Maye are through nine weeks:

More TDs last year but they've cut the turnovers in half. It's just too bad that those haven't translated into wins.

The numbers make sense... we all knew Jacoby wasn't going to score points for us. Or we should have known if any attention was paid.

We are scoring more, which is good. But the offense is a mess, despite what the numbers are showing. Maye should not be running for 90 yards a game. Fix the line, please. It is the most important thing to do. Despite subpar receivers, we do this, The Pats move into the top half of the league in terms of scoring. Maye is just that good.

it wasn't pretty last year, Mac had a penchant for throwing ill-timed ints.

Of those 9 ints, 7 of them were in the opponents territory. The two ints in the aints game were in NE territory, and 1 of them was a pick 6. The 7 were killers. we would drive down the field, then turn it over. I think there was one game where he didn't throw an int. Maybe there was two. don't quite remember. What I do remember he was a drive killer.

we aren't winning now because we are losing at the line. the defenses we have faced have been able to control the los for the most part.

No mention about the quality of opponent in the last 4 games.
Jax, JESTs, & Titans are garbage
Texans took their foot off the gas while dialing up the always soft Bend & Break defense to run out clock.

Fair point. I wrote a thing to pull those #s out, so here's the list for both ranges:

At the same time, the only thing I was pointing out was the increase in offensive production the last four weeks.

But to your point - and I put these out yesterday on Twitter - the defense has had a rough stretch recently, with last season's totals - unfortunately - coming in better:

The only improvement as of late has been the pass defense on third down:

But as nice as the above is, they've obviously been worse against the run, so it's still not exactly great on either end and the amount of red zone touchdowns they've allowed is also concerning. Especially - as you said - given the lower quality of opponents recently.

It's surprising Polk did better with Bris than with Drake. Probably realized we were not going anywhere and attitude/drive went down the ****ter. Then again, why would he think that....Maybe they don't get along but definitely haven't connected.

The progress on offense is just because of Drake Maye.

Per below: AVP continues to be poor at the details on spacing and receiver routes, or the receivers are not executing.
You watch this and wonder how Maye ever completes a pass.

I believe that we are getting better play from the OL, at least when Lowe is healthy.

Lowe, Jordan, Brown, Onwenu, Jacobs are much better than any group that started in the first half of the season.
And this group even has backups in Sow and Robinson.

mgteich sees something about the offense and he be like "my OL:"

I don't think its surprising... 16 of the 27 targets Polk had were short right/short middle passing routes... If Polk is running short routes, from the right or going over the middle, he would be visible on a first read... Thats Brissett's bag...

I think Drake has more games in him closer to the Houston game minus the TOs. This season.

I can see 15 TDs this season. Guy has to make plays in spite of his play caller.

They played the 49ers, Seattle and Saleh led Jets though the first five games. The opposition was better defensively.

The offense in total has probably improved a smidge at execution, also Drake Maye improved their ability to pass downfield.

Conversely Maye has had two games where he turned the ball over a little too much.

Bottom line, one win through the first half of games, and one win over the last half.

Improved? Maybe a little... still bad. Still terrible offensive line play, which is the biggest issue.

Good QB, no WRs No OL and piss poor on field in-game coaching.

Offensive Players who have earned jobs for next year:
QB Maye (peaking to franchise)
RB Stevenson (average)
TE Henry (good)
WR Boutte (passable but growing)
WR Douglas (good)
LT Lowe (passable)
RG Onwenu (good with wieght problems)

Between player development, the draft, and free agency we need at least another half dozen players. If our coaches can't develop a few more this season then they should lose their jobs.

I’ll add a couple of others that seem like they’ve shown enough promise to have earned developmental spots:
TE Hooper
RB Hasty
OL Jacobs and Robinson

Rham is better than average if you look at his yards after contact, which is all of them.

He doesn't have the speed to excel in the wide-zone game or be a breakaway threat passing back. He was better suited for Bill's old offense. This team needs that special third-down back.

Probably the guy whom we traded last season was more suited for it... Osborne might be a good fit I believe for some runs....

This guy should be someone we draft in 3rd or 4th rounds
