With Mayo, it's the basic game management **** first, that's killing me.
Like, he was the assistant head coach apparently last year, running meetings...and doesn't know if you're down 9 in the 4th quarter with time left, you go for 1? Calls a timeout with 5 minutes to go for no reason in the 4th quarter?
This is before we even get to the players responding to him, or seeming not to in many cases. That is something that can be developed - but it really feels like, and I have no evidence for this, but it *feels* like Mayo thinks saying 'I'm Jerod Mayo, I can say what I want, and I relate to the players' - when in reality, he has no actual cachet as a coach, and honestly as a player (his ring was won on the bench behind Jamie Collins). You've got a bunch of kids in there saying 'Who the **** is this guy?', and neither of their coordinators seem to be able to call a full game either. Ridiculous pre-snap penalties, rushing to the line because they can't get the damn play in.
So, yeah, it can be improved, but the basic, basic, barebones, barely qualified to be a head coach stuff - the basic game management. If you don't have that, you'll cost your team a few games, no matter how good you are.
