Best I’ve felt after a Patriots loss… EVER…

Only other loss that really didn't bother me was regular season loss ( 24-17) versus Rams " greatest show on turf" in 2001. Pats were supposed to be blown out and proved they could play with them which helped when SB36 came around.
was at that game, totally agree, Smith fumbled inside the five otherwise they win that game. Went to the dolphins game ie last regular season game at the old stadium too, great memories

If you’re not the players, or the coaches, or the GM, or the owners, how are you personally embarrassed by this? Especially with what happened behind center? I don’t get it.

I think you know what it means to witness an embarrassing performance by the team you support. This team keeps repeating the same bonehead mistakes and bewildering coaching decisions that sabotage hopes of being competitive. Bad situational awareness, poor fundamentals, tons of stupid penalties, questionable clock management ... The regression on defense is alarming: they can't set the edge and are giving up frequent chunk plays both on the ground and through the air. They've surrendered a whopping 385 yards rushing the last two games! Where are the adjustments? Not only in-game, but from week to week? Most everything is getting worse.

The offense continues to be a train wreck. Yes, Maye showed signs of being competent but he more or less canceled out his contributions with turnovers. Aside from his scrambles the Patriots had 21 carries for a measly 44 yards vs. Houston. Drake will go only as far as AVP, his underperforming receivers and musical chairs OL allow him. He's only one guy.

Like you I'm pulling for him and am glad he demonstrated some potential. But the big picture shows a weak, undisciplined team in disarray that got blown out yesterday. To me that's depressing, but perhaps that's just me. I simply hope other fans here haven't become so inured to losing (and losing badly) that they're "happy" with little bits and morsels of hope.

And I’ve been rooting for the Pats since they drafted Jim Plunkett.

Same era I started rooting (Schaefer Stadium)
I went into the game with the reality that this was not about the W. It was all about the kid.
Yeah he made mistakes. Those can be cleaned up with experience.
Being the kid’s first game. What I was looking for was the “eye test”
Let’s just say the kid made me smile

Definitely feel better about our ability to put some points on the board. If Maye can clean up the TOs we are competitive vs good teams.

In turn, I feel worse about our ability to stop teams from putting points on the board.

Agree. And there's no reason to expect the defense to be more than mediocre this year. In June, if you'd been told that they are losing Barmore, Judon, and Peppers, and that Gonzo would come back down to earth, and that the penalties would go up (coaching transition?), we'd have predicted it.

They'll need every draft pick they can get for their top 3 first rounder this year. Still need to add three players on each side of the ball and I suspect it'll be a couple of years before free agents see New England as desirable.

You talking about Tony Eason or Tommy Hodson?

Drake showed to me that he isn’t going to be a bust and has the potential to be a top 5 QB at some point. However we’ll have to keep an eye out about his consistency. On Sunday it was two steps forward and one step back with the turnovers.

Another positive for me is the belief that the skill player group isn’t an abomination. It’s below average and lacking depth. Pop is very skilled and reliable. Boutte is showing some ability that wasn’t evident with the other trash QBs. And I do believe in Polk despite a tough stretch of games. It’s a better group than the past two seasons as well as Cam’s.

Do I think any of them are a #1 in the making? No. But it’s something to work with.

That's literally the best possible story of every rookie QB's first start in history. Watch Brady's first games. Tentative, careful, a bit slow in the processing. The issue isn't that they all start there, it is in how fast they move past it. We've still no idea, really.

Definitely need a OT, a run stuffer and a pass rusher.

Well Here's what's said about him..
Not sure how any of this changes the general consensus that Maye was too young, needed some time to sit and watch. It doesn’t…

If Maye shines, but the team has poor coaching/performances, is that a good thing? I ask because getting the franchise QB isn't enough. It's huge..but more is needed. For instance, look at Herbert, Burrow, & Allen (to a degree).

Somehow, number one receivers need to be added.

I don't see any draft experts that said he needed to sit and wait.. then again I don't really don't pay to much attention to ass kisser Lombardi like you do. I'm just glad maye is our QB.

Lombardi worked for Al Davis, Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick… but I’m sure you know more about team building than he does.

Every evaluator said Maye was young and needed to sit and learn… but your expertise here on PatsFans no doubt has you ready to coach a pro team.

This season is phase 1. Now we have the QB in place, maye IMO will continue to get better and better each week this season. He will have shown why there should be a reason to come to NE if your a WR. Getting the QB is 90%of the process.. adding pieces around the QB is the rest. We also have to remember.. this is year one of an entirely new staff. I believe a #1 will be available by trade or in FA..

Ok. I'll just continue to listen to you repeat what Lombardi says... it's always great to listen to what a guy who's been fired from every NFL job held and was the guy who chose to draft Jamarcus Russell. No thanks. I will listen to anything bill says but not your hero Lombardi.
