What did Drake Maye learn today?

He needs a better OC and o-line coach, who will help him to identify coverage pre-snap and set up his protections to avoid hits.

He learned he's a better option at QB than Brisset.
Well even I knew that me below.

If he was going to get killed, it was today against that D. He will learn more and more how to protect himself better as the weeks go on. Caleb Williams got destroyed by this same defense.
I obviously hope that you're right. But, I'll wait until the season is over to see what happens.

He gained playing experience. He was not careless with the ball.
Every snap he plays builds his level of experience.
Mmm these say otherwise: turnovers. bad throws. INTs.

He also should learn that nationally he is getting pretty much ignored from what I have seen. Do something that no other rookie QB did this year in one game?

Let's watch Calebs TDs in London.

Loser anti- Patriot media. Again, unless I am wrong.

You think he won't learn from that? Here's something for you to chew on. Caleb Williams got DESTROYED by this same defense in his first game. Utterly demolished.

Maye threw the ball a bit behind Pop that ended up in a 20 ish yard completion. Might have been a TD had he passed it ahead of him a bit more. Then later in the game, same route just flipped and he hits him in stride = Touchdown, first of Pops career.

So yeah your opinion on this matter leaves a lot to be desired.

I think it is a case of the Patriots are so bad, no one is going to get talked about. If he can win half of the remaining games left, the media will be talking about him soon. Even though he did what no other rookie QB did in his first game, he still lost so no one cares !! If they won, everyone would be talking about him .

Circling back with my thoughts. Posted the question as I was leaving the bar where I watched the game. Didn’t post my thoughts immediately because I wanted to reflect on what I saw. Have been driving and thinking about it.

I think Maye was inaccurate more than he was accurate. Off the top of my head I’d say it was two off target throws for every one on target. He threw one INT to a wide open defender. He dropped a beautiful dime right into the basket on Boutte’s TD, but later he threw behind Hunter (I think it was Hunter) on a right to left crosser that if he led him looked like an easy TD. Yeah Maye hit himself in the head after each of those miscues, but he didn’t need game play to know he needs to be accurate with his throws.

My main question is, has he been inaccurate in practice as well? We saw some of that during preseason, now we’re seeing it when he’s on the field playing in a regular season game. Is it something he does all the time? Or does he regress under game pressure? My concern is that it’s the latter he might learn to question himself, and to lose confidence in himself. Only time will tell, but it is one of the reasons there’s been concern about playing him too soon.

He didn’t seem to have problems calling plays, getting the team set, calling protections. There were blocking problems but they didn’t seem to be his fault for not recognizing defenses or not calling protection properly, just the same blocking problems we’ve seen all season. Same with the false starts.

Experiencing game speed probably helped his development. I’m just not sure the benefits outweigh the potential problems his erratic accuracy suggests he still has.

Your ability to be civil leaves a lot to be desired too.

That throw behind Pop was just one of many inaccurate throws by Maye. He made some accurate throws but not consistently enough to show he learned anything. We will have to see how he does in his next couple of games to tell.

Until we see otherwise his accuracy and consistency sucked. That’s my opinion and if you don’t like it you can go suck eggs.

Hahah nice try dude. I just gave you an example of him learning on the fly and you just ignore it. Was he great? Nope, but it was his first start and he is the youngest by far of the rookie QB class.

There were multiple instances of him learning from quarter to quarter. It was his first game. He played better than half the other crap bag QBs in the NFL do on a weekly basis. The fact you don't think he learned anything from playing this game tells me you never played a sport in your life. If he makes the same mistake next week then you can say something. You can have an opinion, everyone does. When it's not rooted in fact then its hard to defend.

Nice try yourself. He was so erratic that it’s not clear he learned anything or just got lucky with one of his better throws at an opportune time.

Wait and see how his consistency improves. That’s the only way to see if he learned anything. You can say wait to see if he makes the same mistakes, I’m just saying the same thing differently. Wait and see if he fixes his mistakes.

The argument for starting Maye has been that he would learn better being in the field than on the bench. So it seems a fair question to ask what he learned today. Was it that he can’t be careless with the ball? Was it that the O line is inconsistent at best? How did playing today accelerate his learning to become the QB of the future for the Patriots?
To Duck?

I hope he learned not to let a mistake impact his confidence. That first interception was an awful play. It was great to see that he just kept going.

One int was a fluke, the other was just an overthrow.

we scored 1 TD each of the first 5 games, and 3 TDs today.

He gained experience and he drastically improved the offense.

Today was like anyone’s first day at a new job. For a QB it is:

Taking command of the huddle. Calling the play and getting them to the line of scrimmage in time.
Getting to the line of scrimmage and seeing a NFL defense and it’s nuances for the first time
Making sure everyone is in the right place
Going through your progressions while trying to zone out the nerves and slow down the game in his thought process
Staying within himself

He made mistakes. He also looked very promising
Every game after this will hopefully slow the game down for him
Today he got his feet wet. I’m sure he learned a lot. But he has a long way to go to even start feeling so called comfortable

He learned what it's like to have the weight of an NFL Franchise rest on his back every snap. He is learning as we speak how unloyal local media is. He's also learning he has a loyal following who is going to ride with him through thick and thin. He is learning he has a pocket of "fans" who will always be against him no matter what.

He's learned what its going to take to be the NE Patriots QB. I hope his skin is thick enough and his brain continues to work quick enough.

Very encouraging first game.

LFG PATS!!

That he belongs in the league, and should have started at a minimum 2 weeks ago.

Kid put up 3 touchdowns against a really good defense.
