I said this past summer that it made a ton of sense. Saleh sucks, Rodgers, by all accounts, respects Belichick, the Jets have some good talent on D, and it would be a short term position for Belichick, not a full rebuild.

The ship has now sailed but the Jets should have pulled the trigger.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t good enough anymore for the Jets to kowtow to him, but that’s what happened here anyway.

He's a last ditch effort before an organizational turnover. That's the issue here. They felt they had a great defense and some solid playmakers on offense and were hoping that Rodgers could come in and turn the offense around enough to make a difference. If he didn't, they were going to need to go back to the drawing board. So they are going to try everything they can to make him work this year, because if they have to call it a failure, then it sets them back anyways.
