Schefter on ESPN says Mayo “leaning towards” fired

The thing that did Mayo in - in my opinion - was the AVP comment. Regardless of how the offense has been, AVP is a guy who is well respected by most, and regardless, anytime you see a coach throw a colleague under the bus like that, it's just a massive red flag. Some may have downplayed it and you can interpret it however people might want to, but it was a terrible moment. And I just don't see any scenario where any quality candidate would want to come to a place where the head coach has the ear of ownership and would be the scapegoat in any setting.

I think Mayo could have survived a bad record and then admitted mistakes after the fact with maybe replacing guys who weren't ready like Covington, Hughes, etc., with an environment where people from the outside would be excited to come here and take over. Phil Perry reported not long after that the situation we saw play out had made this an "undesirable" place, based on league sources he had spoken to. I'm sure the Krafts have probably heard the same thing, and I'm sure they're disappointed.

But as I've said, it just feels like he's become a liability, and I think that's ultimately going to be the thing he probably looks back on if he does end up out after today.

I think what did Mayo in was the Chargers blowout with the fans booing them off the field.

Kraft admits that Mayo just didn't work out. Says he's ready to try something new.

I don't know ... I think he could have weathered a blowout loss and fans booing. But looking incompetent to the degree he has in terms of a leadership role - something that was supposed to be a strength - is something I think they certainly hadn't planned on.

Has Mayo been fired yet?

Just stated they are leaning to Mayo being fired!!
Mayo going for the win when the #1 pick was in our grasp is clearly against the best interests of the team. He should be FIRED for that on the spot. Kraft needs to give him his walking papers after the game.

Any chance Mayo went all in upon realizing he was getting fired regardless?

My biggest fear is Kraft says the players played hard for Mayo today, so he deserves another chance.
I hope he is not that short sighted.

But he did hire Mayo so...

Of course, he AVP and Cov probably put a few extra hours in to make sure their last coaching tape looks as good as possible

The biggest loser here in all this is Eliot Wolf you know he was taking shot after shot.

I wonder if Vrabel and Ben Johnson still want the job now?

Nope, he just got a gift from god. Instead of needing to actually be competent and control the entire board he can just pick BPA at 4 and go home early.
