If matters continue more or less as they are, should the Krafts fire Mayo at season's end?

dude, she old now... might need sometin' better than that...
Most definitely. Point being we're in that territory right now, a similar event would not surprise me. Looking at the Peppers situation, we're like 2 more circus events from being a repeat of the 1990 dumpster fire.

It doesn't look encouraging to me. I expected to have a poor record this year. That's not what bothers me. I'm not even going to get into questioning specific schematic tactics or situational play calling because when the talent is so weak overall that I know it's tough on them.

My issue with this new regime (coaching and front office) through 5 games is that I don't see much evidence of anything moving in the right direction. Gonzalez and White seem to be progressing well but that's two highly drafted guys in year 2. I'm sure the coaching comes into play somewhat but that seems more a case of they just hit on 2 picks last year than some great coach-em-up job by Mayo's staff. They signed a seemingly competent kicker too before yesterday's miss. Nothing else on the team seems to be progressing well off of last year. All of their draft picks are either not playing or not playing particularly well. Gibson as an unspectacular backup RB seems to be the only FA piece they added that will be around in a couple of years. Doesn't seem like any under the radar guy is breaking out in a meaningful way.

My baseline hope for this year was just to head into next offseason feeling notably better about the team than I did coming into this year. I wanted to see some growth and progression, and I see very little of it. It feels like a totally wasted year. On the front office side, they sat on so much money that they have room to improve just by not punting on the year again. On the coaching side though, it's very troubling that they don't seem to be doing much development on the roster.

The question should have been: do you put a neophyte coach with little experience and few league connections in charge of a major rebuilding program along with a neophyte personnel manager?

The answer should have been: no.

Wolf is not a neophyte. He knows and worked in every aspect of a FO.

What he lacks is the experience in leading an organization.

Talk about adding insult to injury. THIS team. In red uniforms. Will be indistinguishable from the 1990 Rod Rust Patriots. No, no, NO!
Well you have to bottom out. I think we just did.
yes he was.

Think Mayo & Wolf have pulled off the draft steal of the century in year 1?
The hierarchy has an intricate plan. Don't expose the rookie QB. Get the #1 draft and trade it for a bundle. Get a tackle, a WR and a Center. Next May, we will call him a genius. I won't. It's not my style. I give the OL some slack. They are all inexperienced and improving and will get better if we can just not have more injuries. BUT you guarantee losses when you put Jacoby out there at QB. Talk about sticking your head in the sand and say, "nothing to see here". Makes me sick.

I expected the choices of:
Hire a complete coaching staff
$100,000,000 of cap space
3rd pick in every round of the draft

To result in improvement. I don’t see any aspect of the team that improved.
Its hard to list things they are good at on offense. We haven't had much offense even in Brady's last 2 yrs

Perhaps that was the plan all along. They should get a few high picks for #1.

I think cheap Kraft is handcuffing the team. You think wolf and mayo purposely tried to save money?
It wouldn’t be unheard of. The 2019 49ers (who fell just short of winning the Super Bowl) sure appreciated that the 4-12 2018 49ers had saved them an extra $35M to use in a significantly more competitive season rather than trying to squeak out every possible win in 2018.

Its hard to say anyhing about mayo until there is a QB. A good QB can fix a lot of things. That said his gameday management really can need some work. Also in his own words he seems himsself as the CEO of the team and AVP as the HC of the offense. With BB in the past i am too used to having the HC call the shots when it mattered be it offensive or defensive game plan . Right now it seems there are bunch of units including wolf who are calling their own shots. Hard to see the mayo impression on this team now.

He's been cheap multiple years especially with coaching

…as well as the insight and wherewithal to make draft picks & trades that don’t Suck.

So far his grade is terrible at evaluating players.

1st rounder MIA
2nd rounder starting at WR getting <2 catches for <15 yards
3rd rounder sad behind awful players then was awful when he played a d got hurt
4th rounder. Was possibly the worst OL to play in the league this year.
4th rounder hasn’t seen the field at wr on a team that has no one at 35 yards per game at the position.

Free Agency
Signed Brissett, Osborne, Hawkins, Leverette, Hooper, Gibson and thought he had built a strong enough team to leave 40,000,000 unspent.

Man what a disaster. I was thinking of going back and looking more closely at the last few drafts but I'm afraid to look.

While I agree with your premise and I’m not in the crybaby camp, I’ll have you know many of us NEVER professed to be real men !

I’m a pencil pusher at BEST, not a real man !
The pen is mightier than the sword.

What he lacks is the experience in leading an organization.
And that experience was absolutely essential to have when starting a rebuild after a legend like BB departs. Experienced FO & an experienced coach was just what was (and is) needed. What we got was Kraft playing favorites, and while it won't obliterate his legacy, significant damage has been done.
