I was a proponent of playing whoever we got in the draft in March. What was the point of not playing the number 3 overall? Lot of that came from us bringing in Jaocby Brissett. I did not want him. Still dont. Pointless signing. Zappe could be doing exactly the same damn nothing we are getting from JB at 1/4 the cost. Add to that we did not address the OL in the draft, and the additions in FA were basically border line depth pieces. That changed my tune. Drafting Maye as a prospect had some influence on my changing opinion not to play him right away thinking we might have gotten the cat Washington picked up, but it was more about the team around him because you want to do your best to give them the chance to succeed. But i'm just some guy opining on a message board. What I say and think means nothing.
Mayo is the coach. He puts together the roster, who starts, who sits, who's active, who's inactive. You say "if" it's his decision alone. It is his decision alone. What will happen if he "goes rogue" and installs DM as the starter? Nothing. Think RKK is going to fire him? And once that bell is rung, it can't be unrung. Maye gets a non-injury start? Then he is the starter. Eliot Wolf is not pulling the strings on who starts who sits because he does not have the leverage. No GM does. I don't know where that idea came from, but its ridiculous.
If the Organization - ie. the front office & ownership - had their druthers, Maye would be starting. The chaos and negative energy coming from starting Slowcoby over The Rookie™ is everywhere. If RKK loves anything, its positive press. And starting Maye would change the narrative of the team immediately. That's why I think (this is my opinion - ymmv ) Mayo and Mayo alone is making the call to sit Maye, no one else.
