Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

We should at least see if we improve with Maye under center.

I read the headline:

Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

I was gonna go crazy!

Until I realized it read Mayo…

…not Maye. LOL
Peyton would be one and done for the 10th time if he had the chance. lol

I'm guessing because of the AJ Brown fiasco. Aside from that, he brought in some talent. He was one of my choices for GM.
A lot of good that did. The team has gotten demonstrably worse under Ran Carthon.

A lot of coaches have had a rough first year and turned out ok, Dan Campbell comes to mind and it's not like Mayo was handed a loaded roster.

I see you guys comparing Mayo to Dan Campbell.

The Detroit GM has drafted the most future Pro Bowl players since 2017 (12). The Patriots have not drafted ONE future Pro Bowl player on offense or defense player since 2013. Gonzalez may break that curse this season.

Like Carroll, Mayo's fate is in the hands of Wolf.

Unfortunately I am starting to feel like there may be some finger pointing starting to happen behind the scenes about who is at fault. Maybe I am reading into it too much but Mayo's "head coach of the offense" comment and his recent comments about needing to get the ball out quicker read to me like a subtle "don't look at me" when it comes to the offensive struggles. When things start going sideways people start getting protective and I have to assume there is some second guessing about the tackle position which would have fingers pointed at Wolfe too.

In reality I agree with most in this thread that AVP would likely be the first head to roll if changes are made but I just don't like that we were told Mayo is a "leader of men" type and now the men he's leading seem to be changing direction. Not saying I want him fired but I just wish he would present a more cohesive public perception with the staff as a whole instead of saying one thing and backtracking or saying something that could seem like finger pointing.
There seems to be an unhealthy dynamic between Mayo, Wolf and AVP where the OC/QB coach takes orders from the GM on developing Maye and the HC who has minimal influence on the offense. At a minimum we fans do not have one throat to choke when it comes to who is responsible for football decisions which leaves us with holding RKK accountable for his meddling at the end of BB's tenure and not putting the right leadership in place to get the team back on track.

You might have forgotten about the EVP of Football Business that RKK put in place to keep the train on the track.

I could see AVP getting sacrificed for sure.

Mayo SHOULD be on the table to replace, say, if there is basically open mutiny and players obviously don’t respect him (the Polk/Douglas stuff could be early signs of that)…but that would require Kraft to admit he badly botched the hire and I don’t see that happening.

I think that’s a far more likely scenario.

Then your rebuild is going to be way longer than 3 years.

Mayo is out of his depth.
Mayo does not pick the players.

The blame lies somewhere else.

He decides when to throw the challenge flag though. He decides when to call timeouts to go for it on 4th after faking going for it on 4th just to give the defense plenty of time to set up. He also decides the words out of his mouth when. He talks to the media.

He's in over his head. You might think it'll resolve it self by time he's done with his rookie campaign.

But I personally think hiring a first time coach with almost zero coaching experience, who's defensive minded in a offensive era, who installs such legendary tactics as using a mirror to help improve the team is a giant waste of time.

The org chart over there is definitely concerning. Whatever the main of command actually is over there it seems to doing more harm than good. Once again, speculation on my part, but I feel like AVP and Wolfe are aligned on keeping Maye on the bench which unfortunately seems like they may be in one camp with Mayo in another. Also lends me to believe that AVP is indeed reporting straight to Wolfe as one would assume Mayo is. I also don't really know how Robin Glaser factors into all this. Does football report to Wolfe and Wolfe reports to Johnathan Kraft? I know around the time of announcement that Glaser would have some sort of football role that Wickersham article came out saying with Bill being gone Glaser in Johnathan would be directly involved in football ops.

The more and more I think about it, it feels like Mayo might just be a bridge guy that is in place while Johnathan and his minions learn the ropes.
Yeah, AVP and Wolf are probably joined together. I don’t think AVP reports to Wolf. I think Mayo, Wolf and AVP all report to Kraft separately (or as a unit) but no one has final say.

Anyone have examples where the GM gets fired, but the HC stays?
Jets? Rex stayed and Tanny got fired.
Browns? Stefanski stayed and Dorsey fired.
Chiefs? Reid stayed and Dorsey was fired.

Where are the players?

Where is the O line? Kraft will never fire Mayo because the Pats have no OL.

Mayo is the kind of coach who says the best players will play and those who earn the job will get the job.

Then turn around and say I was just kidding. We have a plan!

This is the same guy who said they were gonna burn money this off season. No doubt about it.

Then they didn't.

Mayo is not absent from blame the way you're alluding to. He's just as involved in what we're seeing.

The best players on the team today will play.

If the best OT on the PATS is 3rd string over on the BILLS, thats the way it is.

They're not even playing the best quarterback and not even that they admit that they're not playing the best quarterback.

It's a deeply unserious team.

If we fire Mayo, then we REALLY need to worry ourselves with the future.

He remained in place to be heir to BB, for years avoiding other opportunities to lead the Pats in the future. While that happened, he did not participated in any of the roster management before.

Then, he inherits literally the 3rd worst team of the year, with I think the longest drought of drafted pro-bowlers, absolutely devoid of talent, while having to rebuild the whole front office. Then, 2 of our best defenders get hurt, with us having an o-line that is more fragile than ceramic.

Free Agency was also not on Mayo as much as Wolf or even Kraft. Makes ZERO sense having this much cap space into the season, unless your boss told you to hold the horses. Why wouldn't you go overboard on your offers, if the alternative is nothing at all? Worried about the wallet or inflation on the market? Come on man... Regardless, even if the FO had green lights, they did NOTHING to upgrade the team. All signings were from B tier and below kind of players, none expected to be a day #1 starter on, again, the 3rd worst team in the NFL.

If, somehow, someway, the "Thinkinkings head" fold after one season and go after other manamagent in this cenario, then we KNOW there is no plan, no foresight, just plain old emotions and a lot of stipidity

Its doubtful that the Pats would have won with Maye instead of Brisset.

If Maye lost the people here would be yelling for Brisset.

Dorsey got fired because they promoted Veach who pushed Reid to take Mahomes. Reid brought in Veach from Philly.
