Patriots Injury News Andrews may be done for the year

This sucks. If he is done for the year, I don't expect him to ever play again. Rumors of him retiring have been floated for the last two years. My guess is he probably won't want to try to make a comeback at age 33.

I think he might. He might be one of those guys who someone needs to sit him down and tell him when it's time to hang them up.

Put Strange at Center if/when he comes back (if he can do it at least as well as Leverett). He'll need work, but he's got a high football IQ by all reports and certainly the athleticism. He played it a bit in college and had a lot of people nodded when he did it at the Senior? Bowl (one of the all-star bowls), if I remember right.

They NEED to know what they have on the OL going into FA and the Draft. If they can field a core of ?-Sow-Strange-Onwenu-Wallace that's certainly fixable. I've seen too much of Onwenu at tackle - I don't care about his contract. He's a potential all-pro guard, not so much at tackle. Put Wallace where he belongs and see if he belongs.

Going into the off-season with that core group, four starters in place, doesn't mean you don't look for upgrades, but makes the transition and completing the OL a much easier task. PAY a good LT either in FA or in a trade with a team shedding CAP, or, if nothing is available, there's your 1st Round pick.

Just announced on 98.5: Andrews done for the year.

Wonder how long this delays Maye. Losing a team leader and guy who calls out the protections is vital to a young QB. Hopefully all the 2nd team reps with Levrett has allowed them to build some chemistry.

I think it may be the opposite. If he had been rumored to be considering retirement in the past, he might have had to be talked into returning for another season. But who knows?

Don't think he'll play for the Patriots again, 33 coming off of an injury and a major rebuild needed on the OL.
Sadly this makes me think of James White walking off the field in 2021 or Edelman in 2020 going down early to mid year and that being the last we saw of them in uniform.

I am hoping so but I doubt it. Rehabbing for months after shoulder surgery coming back at 33 to a rebuilding team. Andrews has seen the top of the mountain and may not sign up for another climb with a bad shoulder and new unproven sherpa.

There were about 5 or 6 Centers worth drafting last April. They chose not to. Also, when did back up Jake Andrews go down? Like otas or something? I mean, David Andrews has been the epitome, no, the poster child of a healthy football player. Who might of just thought, maybe, just maybe this should of been addressed earlier?

Over 6 months in and this new management has been a disaster.

Felt like a lot of Leverett's snap problems in the preseason were with Maye under center, which Maye didn't have a lot of experience with in college. So I'm hoping at least that part is okay. Looked fine on Sunday, but obviously a really small sample size.

Honestly, I'm a bit more concerned about the backup now. Hudson is a rookie who hasn't played yet. Leverett is at least an NFL veteran, but if he goes down, a rough situation just gets worse.

Any free agent vets that could be brought in? I'm all for giving Strange a look there, but I'm not sure how close he actually is to coming back right now.

Wolf’s first off-season has been a disaster.

Overpays Onwenu and forced to play out of position.

Overpays Dugger. Injured.

Prematurely pays Barmore. He’s dealing with a health issue.

Prematurely pays Rham. He fumbles every game and his numbers are declining since week 1.

Extends Andrews and now he’s out.

He’s created a great blueprint on how to get fired quickly.

I remember when they were all Resigned you were the First to criticize the moves spot on.

The pats need to sign two starting caliber OL & draft a LT in the top 10 next offseason.

LT ?
LG Sow/Strange
C ?
RG Onwenu
RT ?

I hope Mayo elevates Harris and Bench Rham what a disappointment.

LT = Rookie LG = Sow C = Strange RG = Onwenu RT = Wallace.

I really wanted them to try Cole Strange @ LT but I'm alright with him at Center.

My biggest fear is that injuries get used as an excuse and the front office actually thinks they had a good plan and keep going in the same miserable direction.

I think the only guy making plays should be playing even if he made a few bad ones.

That’s what we said last year

Yes, some folks just turn down fre

???
We had Jake.

As far as our #3 center, we were discussing whether Leverett or Jordan might be a replacement for Jake.

So, IMO, we had FOUR centers available (sometimes we carry 2, sometimes 3). When Jake went down, we had 2. There was no reason to sign yet another center. We could have drafted one if we thought that someone was likely to be better than the 3 backups that we already had. And, yes, Andrews had decided to play 2024 rather than retire and then decided to get some guaranteed money as an incentive to play in 2025.
========
In addition, we are carrying Hudson on the Practice Squad. Again, he probably is better than someone available as a late draft pick, especially since that player would probably need a year of development.
========
BOTTOM LINE
We've lost Andrews and Andrews.
Our #3 looked just fine last week. I expect us to elevate Hudson this week, or simply put him on the 53. And yes, when healthy, Jordan will be the emergency #3 center.

I'd say that this is a pretty good situation when both your starter and backup are injured,
