Drake came in for mop up duty last night... thought he showed some stuff... but that thought is tempered by the fact the Jets called off the dogs... Yes they rushed 4 or 5 guys, depending on our formations, but they eased up with the game well in hand... so while we saw some good things, we also saw that he still has a lot to learn...

every Drake Maye play from last night...

analysis of Mayes performance

Whats your hot take on his debut...

I thought it was a mediocre performance. He was way off target on 2 or 3 throws and was a bit of a statue on a couple of plays.
Made one very good throw and had one good run.
Can not tell anything about his potential from this one brief stint.

I didn't really see any plays where he was "way off target". The first incompletion was on target but batted down by a DB. Second one, the TE looked like he slipped, third appeared to get tipped at the LOS and he was also being hit as he threw. Last incompletion was a little off target but not significantly, still catchable.

It was nothing to make you say Wow he is the future. We can quibble on the specifics but I think he was off target on a couple of throws

Good news is he seems to get ball out quicker and with more zip than JB

The 49ers game will be over by halftime.

Put Maye in the 3rd quarter and allow him to build some familiarity with his receivers. INTs happen with a rookie QB and they are only catastrophic if Maye learns nothing from them.

I thought the draw plays to Gibson and Mayes scrambles were the best plays of the drive.

It was probably a good soft spot to get him his first reps in and I suppose that helps however minute it might be worth.

Not really much to glean from.

Looked alright. The 4th down conversions, especially the throw downfield to pop were nice. Wish he was given a chance to score 7, maybe they wanted to let him assume he’d have scored

Clearly a horrible position to get your first action. But, after the quick 3 and out - not unusual for a rookie's first cold intro to the NFL - Maye's 2nd drive showed why he may be more suited for this struggling offense.

His 2 passes (short comeback to Boutte & crosser to Pop) showed more timing and anticipation than anything Brissett has done so far.
JB is tough, safe, and poised - but he only throws after someone gets obviously open.
Maye threw both of those guys open with anticipation.
The one to Pop in the red zone was while side stepping a DE bearing down, and leading Pop into a close window in the middle of the field. That was high degree of difficulty - in his ~10th snap of his career.

This Team needs a spark and I think it would respond to Maye better. We are not going anywhere with Brissett. IF Mayo doesn't Start Maye next week I hope he gets everything that's coming to him.

We were never going anywhere this season.
I just want to watch a competitive Team which we won't be with the very limited Brissett.

The 1st 2 games were competitive. Let’s see how the next one goes.

They know that too. But it can't be in SF. You gotta give the kid a chance.
After week 4 they come back home for a Tua-less Dolphins team, and the chance to get a couple guys back from IR, injury.

I'm hoping they smarten up and get the OL lined up right. With one game to work out more kinks, it'll be a much better chance for Maye in week 5 with Jacobs/Lowe - Jordan/Sow - Andrews - Onwenu - Wallace/Thomas

This reminded me of Tom Brady coming in against Detroit in 2000.

Hope the Jets didn't write the blue print on us send the house dare them to make a play. Our OL is full of holes Defenders can get there at will.

This would've been a good time to prep Maye to start (10 day break) but the injuries to the OL kinda stifle it.

IMO - increase Maye's reps a tick in practice (maybe 60%/40% split in favor of Jacoby) and give it one more week to let the line hopefully get healthier. Then in week 5 back at home, start Maye behind a line that should now have Lowe and Sow back and in a little better shape (barring further bad luck). Strange might be back too, but depends how far along he is.

I like it that the offensive coordinator discovered pop douglas is on the team.

Jets IMO seemed like they were doing the same thing they did all game. Rush 4 and the line couldn't handle it.

Drake did what he could In limited action. I would have liked to see what he could have done if it was the entire 4th quarter as the game was over for sure by then.

I liked his ability to escape outside. The throw to pop just Gave me vibes on the future with he and pop.

Pape it was a combination of Murphys law. Thursday games are always tough for NFL players. Even tougher for lesser talented teams. I believe Maye day has a bright future once we get a NFL level offensive line to protect him I can envision big things.
