Are the WRs actually getting open?

Is the priority winning games now or developing Maye?

There's a reason the Pats are sitting Maye and it's not because they think Brissett is better. It's not to tank. It's not to annoy the fans who want to win now. It's because they want Maye to be the franchise and they think he develops better by sitting rather than playing so far.

Well I watched a bit of the first quarter and it's very clear he's taking no chances risking anything throwing to the receivers unless maybe they're wide ass open. Below is the first quarter on 3rd & 2. He ended up taking a sack as he scrambled to the right.
I am not Blame Brisset guy, but this does support the opposite case. In the still, he has plenty of space, and space is time, in this instance.

brisset is holding for more than 3 seconds and no all QBs are not throwing to the most open receiver. they are throwing to spots where only their receiver can catch. brissett made one throw like that to osborne.

brissett is so risk averse that he is not even throwing any balls. he is a big reason why we lost yesterday. i think zappe might have won us the game yesterday.

There's an entire thread of Jacoby missing open receivers on Reddit. He had guys wide open all day and didn't even look at them. I know, the source is what it is, but so are the clips contained within:

brissett is just taking the easy throws or dumping it off. no point laying blame on oline or wide receivers.

today the qb needs to make throws in less than 2.5 seconds for majority of time and rest would be 2.8-3 . no qb is getting 3 + seconds in pocket these days.

at this point i just see brissett as a clipholder holding the offense till mayo deems maye to be ready. we will end up losing a lot of close games as the qb cannot elevate. so we can only win when the other team makes too many mental mistakes and their qb has an off day.

I know it's asking a lot because of how many clips are listed in that thread, but if you take the time to go through them it's borderline shocking. Pop's frustration is completely justified.

Ima take your word on the matter!

Pop's frustrations can I see the Transcript??

They would be a low 2 or high 3 on another team and if they looked good it would be because the defenses were worrying about someone else. When mid tier WR's are getting the top coverage of the defense, it is going to lead to this. Add in the bad line, add in the QB either being a limited back up quality or a young rookie who is undercooked.
DBs are just as fast as WRs these days.. no WR not named Tyreek is getting big Separation. Even watching the eagles game last night.. Smith who's considered one the fastest in the league wasn't outrunning DBs.. our problems are domino affected.. no time to throw, the QB is limited.. I have never appreciated the good O lines we used to have more than now.

You do know that when Stevenson ran for 120 vs the bengals it was 139 after contact, right? Hard to pimp the ol for that.
It is actually incredible the number of positive runs he's had when he ran into defenders at the line or even before.

Both. The priority is to win games AND develop Maye into a franchise QB who won't crater like Mac Jones or Bryce Young after 20 starts.

100%

Looking around the league, I get a better idea of why the Patriots OL isn't up to snuff.

There aren't a lot of good OLs out there. The talent level of the DLs, particularly the speed rushers, is not being equaled.

Yeah, I think it's not really well understood by fans that offensive lines and especially offensive line depth is really bad now.

You could make a strong argument the speed rushers are the most physically talented players on the field.

No, the numbers show that they are not getting open. To some extent this reflects the fact that Brissett is forced by lousy pass protection to get the ball out before they can get open, but this is largely a continuation of an existing problem: our WR's are just not that good. They didn't get much separation last year either. Some have said here that they may not be getting open because they are discouraged and pouting over not getting the ball. If this is determined to be the case for any particular WR, the solution is simple: cut that player. Placing the main blame on Brisset is asinine. He was never -at no point - represented as a long-term , let alone a permanent solution to the QB problem. If you do not know this, you have not been paying attention. Brissett is what he is, and he is a little more than playing up to his known potential, in my view.

The O-line is lousy. Blame present and past GMs.

The WR room is weak. Blame present and past GM's.

The HC must task the OC with scheming a far better passing game - the short game in particular - absolutely, but with what the OC and Brissettt have to work with, there is only so much to be done.

Maye meanwhile is best kept out of this goddam mess until the team manages to build an offensive setting in which his development can safely and effectively be advanced by playing in actual games. The team is simply not there yet.
So close.

You don't get to blame 'past GMs' anymore, not when the team had 100 million in cap space going into the offseason. Instead of bringing in below-average NFL starters, they brought in delivery drivers they found in the dumpster, and didn't draft an offensive lineman until the fourth round. They drafted guards they 'projected at tackle'. Last week, they started 4 Guards and a Center.

Bill Belichick was fired in December. He didn't do any of that.

yes wide open is a big exaggeration

i would think a qb must be able to hit henry or polk here, this is open by NFL standards i would guess

Henry is the only available option at this point, but it was 2 yards behind the original LOS, with all momentum going to the sideline, but yes, that's the throw. You see Henry doing what he did the whole game, not running a route, just following Brissett waiting for him to break the pocket.

I would like to direct your attention the the fact that the original LOS was the 20 yard line, and the Seahawks, dropping 8 into coverage, still re-established the LOS at the 25.

Apparently this dummy thinks he is some sort of diamond in the rough.

the interesting thing here is that any team can sign a player off another teams practice squad, so apparently 32 other teams think hes less bugatti and more fugazzi

I don’t think I’ve seen any rb run for 120 on 25 carries when the average first contact is -1.5

He might not be talking just about himself but about his entire receiver group who their QB doesn't even look at. I think they might start having a problem soon if things don't change. I know they preach culture a lot but WRs are divas by nature.

Alternatively, the post could be referencing Drake Maye. Lol
